Nerf the theif steal skill consume ectoplasm
In general, the thief stealing abilities are ridiculously over the top when compared to a classe’s actual capabilities. Mesmers don’t even have the ability to gain all boons (unless using Rune of Lyssa)! Nor do Guardians have access to a 4 second Daze…
As long as the cooldown of steal is reduced to 10 seconds.

So I am going to post a video that Guild wars 2 guru did with some of the top PvP players in the world, In this video they talk about Balancing and how they approach it. I think that any good gamer can respect and understand their stand point on this I know for one I did. Also to save the people who do not wish to listen to this pod cast or video cast I will mention that the Developers over seeing the PvP aspect of the game has stated that they are not going to take the Whack-a-Mole perspective in this. So many other Games out there have done this, What X class is being complained about to much NERF, now x class is Nerf it, this is a bad habit to get into and admittedly by the developers they did this with spirit rangers at first. Instead they are going to look at what is Over the top and look how they can buff or increase other profession to combat this. They hope by doing this they equal out the playing field, now this is only paraphrasing I do highly suggest watching the 125 minute video as it does have a lot to do with PvP in general.
Now with that said and before anyone else try’s to proclaim that I am just a thieve player I will set the record straight, I play every profession in the game in PvP.
Necro – Juggernaut build
Guardian – Bunker
Elementalist – Bunker
Ranger – Trap
Mesmer – Cunfusion shatter spike build
Thieve – Condition Stealth build
Engineer – Not really sure yet build
Warrior – GS/ rifle spike build
I Play my Guardian Necro and ranger more than anything, but I play all professions so I can better understand how to combat against them. Now with that said I like the Mesmer stolen buff although I am not really seeing it as overpowered. Maybe this is because of the fact I am not playing a GC build who knows. But I am or have I ever really seen the " Game changing effects" Of the mesmer stolen buff. Again maybe it is just because I am not playing it as a GC build, Although I can tell you from watching that video they will not out right nerf something.
Feer teh theifs! Tehy are bad!
This thread is a joke right? I would trade all of these stolen abilities for F1-F4 worth of guaranteed thief abilities like other professions have the luxury if having.
You do realize that isn’t a reliable stolen skill? If they wana target a mesmer (which btw in spvp are extremely annyoing for thieves, we usually spec single target dps and killing the dozen or so clones is ridiculous in itself) with steal every 40-45 seconds let them. If other people find this to truely be game breaking on thief, maybe give more than 1 stolen skill per profession but nerfing it is just silly and unnecessary.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”

This this is what I say thanks Ninja, I am glad to see that we can disagree on a lot in the past then come around to thinking exactly alike. Also I just recently found when Mesmer are in the area if your rocking the SB spam Trick shot usally handles the Clones fairly well, And I am one that hates one button spammers. Cough heart Seeker Jockey’s that are too stupid to figure out how to play an actual build cough
There are a lot of flaws in your argument. I’ll respond to them individually in the order of occurrence.
First, 10 stacks is not the same as 10 seconds. While it’s true that some of the boons last for 10 seconds, some of them stack intensity rather than duration. Additionally, the boons most useful in WvW are among the shortest duration.
You argue that consume plasma heals for more than healing seed. Technically true, because consume plasma only applies to a single target, while healing seed applies in a radius. Additionally, removal of conditions is arguably of much greater utility than direct healing, considering that the healing seed removes all conditions on the player and anyone else in the area of effect. Oh yeah, and healing seed puts down a healing field. A single thief could use shortbow’s cluster bomb into that field once every second for the five seconds it’s active, and out-heal consume plasma. But this is WvW, so we’re not talking about soloing – a team can do much more.
The boons you list as contributing to a “perfect defense” are a far cry from being so. Aegis protects you against a single attack, once, during the 10 second duration. In WvW that’s laughably useless. Stability and retaliation are definitely very useful, but they only last for 3 and 5 seconds respectively, and retaliation doesn’t actually defend the player in any way. Vigor and swiftness – definitely useful, but not far beyond what thieves are typically capable of in WvW. Swiftness is not a substantial increase over Signet of Shadows, and I don’t remember the last time I saw a thief without that in WvW.
Okay, so the defense isn’t so perfect. More importantly, you claim that thieves have this so-called “perfect defense” “every 1/4 of the time.” False. First, there has to be an enemy mesmer handy. Second, the thief has to reliably hit the mesmer with steal and nobody else, which is not exactly reliably doable in zerg situations. Third and most importantly, the thief only steals consume plasma if he hits the real mesmer – illusions will burn the cooldown on steal and grant nothing. So this alleged perfect defense is a very far cry from 1/4 uptime already. Oh yeah, and then you have to account for the fact that the majority of defensive boons have less than 10s uptime (especially including aegis – you only get 10s if you’re not getting hit).
