Neutrality in WvW

You are not the first to say this. I doubt you will be the last, however other players have managed to accomplish the task. If they were able to do it, you should be able to as well.
Wouldn’t neutral status give you the ability to walk into enemy territory and either distract them or report on their movements to your own side? I don’t know how practical it is to spy using stealth, but I could see this becoming potentially troublesome.
I was lucky enough to do the jumping puzzle right after a server reset, and most of the people in the area were after the jumping puzzle and the Zephyr kite that was there. It was a pretty good experience, actually, since enemies and allies were helping each other through the puzzle.
I can totally see how it could be a frustrating ordeal, however. I haven’t even started thinking how I’m going to get all the POIs and Vistas once I’ve finished PvE map completion.

I agree, there really isn’t a fix for that. Even if you limited chat functions to “neutral” people, that wouldn’t stop them from using third-party chat systems like Ventrilo.
A neutral function would be nice, though, so map completion in WvW wasn’t such a pain.
By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!
zerg goes neutral walks into lords room of stone mist takes of neutral and takes it .This is simply too exploitable
Talyn, I didn’t say I couldn’t do it (in fact I have completed the maps to 100% and done all four JP’s). I just didn’t enjoy the experience the way I do with PVE.
As for a neutral reporting enemy movements, yes I can see that might be an issue but, frankly, I have never seen anything very organised in WvW apart from zergs and they are hard to miss…! But my experience with WvW is slight so I could be wrong.
If I may add to this idea, I would suggest this… When entering WvW, have a UI popup with a choice of Neutral and Participant. The Participant status would allow you to play normally The Neutral would effectively render you invincible, disable all chat functions, and allow you to only interact with with map locations and such things as the chest at the end of the JP. I don’t know if this is even possible but that’s my two cents worth.

If spying is a problem in WvW, and I gather it is since I read complaints about spies, then if someone was Neutral like this, they could report to another person such as a commander on mumble or other voice programs and then that other person could type it in chat or otherwise use the information.
I highly suspect that that making world completion include WvW is an attempt by the company to persuade PvEers to get their feet wet in WvW.
However, I do like this neutral idea. If the neutral option was implemented, one would have to choose to be neutral before entering WvW maps. The only way to get out of neutral status would be to completely leave WvW and reenter.
Neutral status could be written so that no players would render, other than maybe your home server, or even your guild/party. This way there would be no spying.
If I want the satisfaction of getting all the JP’s I have to go into WvW and have to suffer the pain of other players who enjoy killing me.
Well, to put it simply: If you don’t like doing something, you don’t need to do it.
Could we have a “neutral” status in WvW where no points are gained for downing and where castles are open? Or even better an invulnerable status – to allow for those PvP’ers who would attack just for what they consider to be fun?
No, you can’t have that. It would be ridiculously easy to abuse for spying.
it would be like the invulnerable function of that bubble in the fire shaman battle. You cannot attack you cannot get hurt and with teh above suggestion to make chat disabled as ,long as you have it on, you can’t spy or divulge info about the enemy either.
I suggested in another thread as an alternative to this to let poi’s only be discoverable by approaching the gates of a tower or keep but have vistas left as is, make vistas the reward for actually getting into the enemy own place.
Yet that got shot down too by others on here.
The only way I see this work is you would be unable to see any other player while you were there.
Otherwise it would be way too easy to abuse the system.

Because every server totally doesn’t have their own WvW teamspeak channel, right? No one does that anymore, right?

That’s the only caveat to this. You can’t control that one human factor involved.
I was once exactly like the OP. Did the BL jumping puzzles for the badges only. Hated getting the WvW map completion. I said some of the exact same things.
Then one day I decided to give WvW an honest chance. I am now in WvW 90% of my time and think some of my past suggestions are ridiculous. Neutrality is bad idea imo.
Getting the JP in your own BL is easy. From Citadel WP it is fairly unlikely you will run into a lot of enemies on the way there. If you are trying to get the JP on an enemy BL and keep getting ganked on the way there, then just practice some patience and get it when your server is that color another week. Or roll a thief and stealth your way there.

Lol, I thought about it and got to conclusion:
Let’s say they introduce a “white flag” you equip instead of weapon and wave and you can’t be attacked and can enter all locations.
Now, a 50 man zerg enters the castle waving flags, pretending they’re only for beautiful vista.
They enter, they drop the flags and equip all weaponry..
It does feel similar to some myth, isn’kitten…
Only thing lacking is a big wooden horse

For everyone who talks about the neutral being toggle on and off and zerks using it to take over places, obvious if they ever add something like this it wouldn’t be a toggle on and off thing just for that fact. I do wish there was a white flag option for the jumping puzzles though going through the first part of the of the EB puzzle and getting killed in the cages really sucks along with sneaking my way past all enemies in their Borderlands just to be killed at the entrance of the puzzle also sucks. Besides getting a couple of blueprints doing the puzzle does nothing for WvW and I hate how people choose to camp there killing people. I would just like for there to be a white flag option at the entrance to the jumping puzzles like a buff that will add a white flag to your back like a backpack of sorts when you enter the jp zone/area. It can be optional though choose to pick it up or not. If you pick it up you can’t get rid of it until you leave the area and you don’t get the blueprints if you have it.

This. 1000000x this. This needs to happen. Just have to make sure the neutrality cannot be in any way disabled unless you leave the WvW and re-enter.
Edit: I could settle for them just taking the WvW off the world completion also. I hate pvp, I have no interest in it whatsoever, pvpers don’t need me walking in to their fun and getting in the way and I don’t want to participate in it either. But I want to have that 100% map completion, I don’t even care about the legendary either.

Still this would lead to spying, almost all servers have a WvW TS/mumble/vent server as well as most guilds.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

How about an instanced version of the wvw maps filled with npc’s with no players other than the neutral ones present? It could even function as a brand new quest zone with all the events scattered around encouraging cross server play and friendships.
Also, granted I know in such a case people will just run by the npc’s to get the nodes that they need but those of us going for map completion already do that. Run through the crowd of players, get the poi, die, respawn, repeat.

I would like this solution. We already have areas (Southsun Cove, for example,) that don’t count for World Completion, and considering that WvW isn’t even in Tyria itself, I think it would be better to treat it more like the other areas in The Mists that don’t count for World Completion.
I think it’s worth noting that there would still be an expectation of at least some WvW participation in order to get a Legendary weapon, because making a Gift of Battle requires 500 badges of honor anyway. Legendary-seekers would still have to play WvW, but they’d actually have to have some amount of success fighting in it, not just sneaking to the JP/POI/Vistas they need, and people who just want to explore Tyria can stay in Tyria.
People still camp JP’s? lol..
:)
I once felt the way that this poster does, and I truly understand the frustration. However I also have to admit that after I got used to WvW it was really fun and challenging to finish map completion and I’m really proud of having done that on 6-7 characters now. Since the color rotation for each team started, this became far less of a chore. Sure, it took a little time to get since you had to wait for our team to have red or green or blue to get those easy to get PoIs and Vistas, but the feeling of achievement was worth the time and effort. The neutrality idea just could be used as an exploit I would think and at worse it uses a player slot for real WvWrs to use in battle.
I was toying with the idea of suggesting that maybe the developers need to make some un-scored WvW overflows. Essentially identically to the scored maps, but when the queues are full players at least have the option to entering these overflow maps where they can hone their skills and still play in a WvW while waiting in queue rather than ‘riding the bench’ outside the bank in Lion’s Arch. The maps would have to be un-scored since worlds with a very large WvW player base would have that much more of an advantage. Perhaps in these un-scored overflows the concept of a neutrality option would work for those players just wanting map completion? Win-win in my opinion, but just tossing out the idea for others to kick around.

I just want to get my map completion without involving myself in the open world pvp zone or an option to not be attacked by other players while doing. Like I said, pvpers don’t need me going in to their zone and getting in their way but I really want that sense of accomplishment from getting the map completion.
And no, it having an inflated difficulty because of the pvp thing isn’t going to enhance the sense of accomplishment it’s going to make me angry, frustrated, and when it’s over I won’t say “wow I did it, I feel accomplished” I’m going to say “great it’s finally over, now I never need to set foot in WvW again, ever.”

Firstly, relax. I understand your frustration. Secondly, until you get that achievement how would you know that you wouldn’t feel you’ve accomplished something? “We choose to do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard!” -JFK Thirdly, I offered a suggestion which if enough people supported might give Anet a way to implement your suggestion if enough people considered it worthwhile. And fourthly, if you take the time to breathe, throw away all you think you know about PvP for a moment and just try to have fun with the groups that are there you may just find that it is very possible to have fun at achieving this goal. Worst case scenario is that you just have to wait a few weeks as your world changes colors and thus map positions and go get all those things you still need. I have 7 characters already with WvW map completion and many of them I did at level 20 or below. You just have to pay attention to the weekly map rotations and hop in when you see your world has those places you still need. Anyway, I support your idea of neutrality in the sense that if the developers made some un-scored maps such that a neutral person would have no effect on WvW players.

1. I’m fine, I will gladly hold off on this until it’s fixed.
2. I know exactly how I’d feel. Besides getting world completion in it’s current state is pretty challenging, specifically because of Orr and the state of those zones. Granted that’s a topic for another thread, Orr needs severe revamp mob spawns could stand to be reduced by at least 50%, the statues and all the waypoints need to default to permanent uncontested, and the large amount of stuns/cc’s the mobs have need to be reworked. Again though, that’s for another thread.
3. I like your suggestion, again I’m for any suggestion that doesn’t involve pvp.
4. Let me emphasize to you, overemphasize even, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever at all in engaging in any sort of pvp, period. It holds no interest for me and after watching the zergs on the objectives (from a safe distance/position so I wouldn’t get dragged in) and people rallying desperately trying to stop them I couldn’t help but notice how absolutely boring it looked, again, that’s just me. I don’t knock people that find it enjoyable, if you find it fun, more power to you, pvp holds zero appeal to me. I also don’t like the fact I have to wait the weeks in the sense that I don’t get to decide when I do it, it’s dictated by a system beyond my control.
Any system in an online game that can be abused will be abused. This one would be abused, a lot.
What they could do is only show your allies when you chose neutral option, for enemies, you don’t see them at all, and make everything open so that u can access
