Put extra bank slots on sale
they were just on sale
and gold is not hard to make in this game.

Perhaps for upper levels on chars that have been here since launch, but I started after Christmas and this is by far the stingiest game for gold for lower levels I have seen, and been playing these MMORPGs since EQ (15 years?), played or betaed most of the major ones, often with multiple accounts. Perhaps it’s ok if you don’t tradeskill, and sell all you gather, but I always do tradeskills.
4 of my chars are in low 30s and One hit 40 and I barely had the gold for the 40 level book, and won’t have the bucks for the 4 coming up. I hear the upper levels have so much gold it’s obscene, perhaps they made it harder just before I started. Haven;t tried the group or wvw yet, maybe all the money is there.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s lots of fun, great innovations everywhere. perhaps this is just for hardcore younguns who started at launch or you need to be a gold buyer type. This is the first one I’ve seen where gold is buyable from a store come to think of it.

They haven’t made it harder to make gold, also you shouldn’t be so obsessed with attaining gold while not being level 80, there’s almost nothing you need it for.
What i wonder however is how you are able to fill your storage with stuff you found below level 40… There aren’t that many items that you can get that don’t have a deposit slot and are available below level 40.
Also don’t worry too much about the trait books, until level 60 you can make due with only tier 1 traits.
+100
I’ve bought all possible slots and need more, mooore, MORE!
Coz I have 9 characters now ><
Seafarer’s Rest (EU): Liicher (Engi), Lii Cher (Warrior), Swf (Elem),
Licharr (Guard), Lich Eir (Ranger), Alt Fh (Thief). Lii Cherr (Mesm), S Wf (Necr)
Sjacie—I’m not obsessing over gold for gold’s sake, I just need to be able to buy the 1 gold, level 40 book for my chars, get bags with more slots, and buy some bank space.
I’ve almost quit playing just because it is too much trouble trying to find room for stuff…you come online, see an hour’s work just to get a little room that lasts about 30 min, then you log off and play a game that’s less work and more fun. I really hate the concept of pay to win, I feel like I just cheated, as well as being foolish, anytime I spend real money for game items I should earn through playing.
You could hardly call GW pay 2 win its the polar opposite in fact . You say you use crafting so why not craft higher level bags The runes of holding are relatively cheap bar the ones for the 18 and 20 slot which aren’t worth it anyway .
I started after christmas as well and while i don’t have as many characters as OP on my main alone by level 40 i had like 4g from selling loot, salvaging whites, not selling any crafting mats (banking until i decide whether or not to craft) and buying gear on the TP. I’ve also not bought any gems (well, not yet… i really could do with more bank slots too tbh).
Each of your characters should have enough to buy the level 40 book with a nice bit of change by the time they’re level 40. Are you a hoarder?
maybe instead of bouncing between characters so much play one to 80 and make some money (not that you can’t at lower levels but there are more options higher up).

I’ve gotten 4 characters to 80 and on every single one I’ve been able to buy their trait books when they were at the appropriate level for it, even while leveling a profession (or two professions in some cases) while leveling up.
I figure that I manage it because I always take the effort to 100% a few maps while leveling, salvage items based on the liklihood of getting profitable materials vs. the cost of just vendoring the item, and always do the Shadow Behemoth and Maw of Corruption events every day.
Also, use websites like gw2crafts to help you discern the most inexpensive way to level your professions of choice. Making sure you do a few dungeon runs each week will also profit you.
I am definitely not the richest player in GW2 (most gold I’ve ever had banked is 21, I don’t own any cultural armor sets either) but I’m never so broke that I can’t buy essential items.
If you are running out of bank space, consider the following:
- Invest in a new character. That’s minimum 52 slots (20 + 4x 8-slot bags) for 800 gems vs only 30 slots for the 600-gem bank tab.
- Spend on bigger bags. upgrading from 8-slot bags to 12-slot ones is about 15 silver. If you do that on two characters, that’s 32 more slots for 1g 20s, or about 59 gems.
- Toss some of the stuff you are keeping. Since it costs coin to add slots, anything that is worth less and taking up room isn’t worth the storage costs, e.g. like paying US$100 to U-Store-It to keep a US$20 bicycle — cheaper to buy a new one (event discounting for inconvenience). In other words, get rid of anything that is worth less to replace (time and coin) than:
- 40 silver/slot, based on New tab: (30 slots) = 600 gems ~= 12g
- 32 silver/slot, based on New character: (52 slots) = 800 gems ~= 16g
- 4 silver/slot, based on 12-slot bags: (+4 slots compared to 8-slot) = 12 silver each
I dont want to relog every time I need something. I want more bank slots. But thank you for your obvious advices ><

I bought bank slots while they were on sale.
Besides, whether gold is hard to come by or not, the relevant way to get gems is with your visa card and afaik that rate has never been changed. The gold-to-gem conversion is an optional thing for people who don’t want to support their favourite videogame.

that makes the assumption that one has a budget to buy the gems with real money to begin with,or an income at all for that matter .

Doesn’t change a thing. For people who don’t have the budget, there’s always the gold-to-gems. However … you’re at the whim of the people who want to sell their gems for gold. I personally want to get 2g for every 100 gems so probably the gems are still at the cheaper side.
You can’t have the cake and eat it. Either you work and pay for gems with real money, or you put in an equivalent of farming time. Demanding cheap gems goldwise while refusing to pay with real money is not honest.

Anwar, chances are you are holding onto gear far too much (kharma gear is all I bother using while leveling usually) or you are holding onto crafting stuff that is intermediary such as hilts or armor plates/etc…only craft if you can finish the peice, don’t hold onto or make things that you have to hold onto in order to finish.
Salvage whites and vendor anything else you don’t need and can’t deposit if it won’t sell on the TP.
Finally…it is like every MMO…low levels don’t make bank. You said you played EQ…you forget what EQ1 was like? lvl 40 GW2 is akin to lvl 20 EQ1…you aren’t going to be pulling in big amounts of cash. If you are buying crafting materials on the TP in any great amount you will lose money, it is like that in every MMO. You say you have played MMO’s for 15 years…alting multiple characters keeping them in the same space…never works well, it is incredibly more efficient to level one to max then use that one to fund the alts (or in this game use the alts to help in the legendary grind via their skillpoints).
