With all the hate/debate going on about stealth and culling esp in wvw and pvp, I’d like to make a quick suggestion.

You know how when you hit a normal mob, the white number of your damage pops up near/around him? Can we have something like that but appears even when a mob/player is stealthed as well? It won’t remove his stealth, but merely indicate where this player has been, and if you’re good, where he’s gonna go. Maybe it’ll be a good patch-over until they solve the culling problem.

One infuriating thing with thieves stealthing is that even if I aoe, idk if i’m hitting him, and using grenades, I wanna make sure I’m hitting him with my strongest aoe spell.

Idk, thoughts?

Yes I definitely agree. I always see comments about what do vs those stealthy thieves. People say throw conditions on them or use AoE dmg. It’s just plain useless if you can’t see if you hit anyone. It’s actually quite logical..

Err.. stealth.. means stealth, otherwisw whats the point ? !

or maybe allow others to see footprints/little clouds of dust when the stealth thief is walking? but not if standing still/teleporting/shadow stepping.

Err.. stealth.. means stealth, otherwisw whats the point ? !

if the thief is constantly moving, the damage numbers would only indicate as to where he technically “was”. Kinda like an electron, you don’t exactly know at a particular time where the electron is, but you have a rough idea where it is and where it was (in case of, say, an electric current).

I vote on removing stealth entirely, giving thieves an “evasion” state similar to the one mesmer shatter ability in the place of all stealth skills. It’s stupid to have a “counter” be to blindly spam aoe effects randomly in the area you think they are or target where you think they might be going to.

Can’t remove stealth for some dumb reason? Then add in the ability to see through it to some utilities/traits/whatever spread across a few classes. I’m glad they finally removed stealth captures from WvW but I’ve seen other abuses of the ability to quickly recap towers/etc with a group of stealthed thieves abusing the mechanic on the moronic NPC guards.

Especially if they do nerf AOE like they hinted at, the only sort of “counter” to stealth currently, they will need to do something to help out against an ability that has no purpose but to kitten off other players, or abuse dungeon mechanics (I care less about that, but still not terribly fond of 1-2 classes being able to skip content easily over others).

yeah i vote for this! ill use shadow refuge to get 10 seconds of “evasion” evading every attack, being 10 secconds immortal. cant wait for this update lol :p

Obviously there would need to be some rebalancing (shadow refuge grants the evasion the entire SR length, but only while the thief+allies remain in the area of effect). I’d still prefer that though. At least then if people blew their cooldown abilities or charged in to fight them it would be their own fault, and could be improved upon by themselves. There has hardly been any event where I fought an invisible mesmer or thief and thought “Hmm…if I did this differently I could have won the fight or escaped”.

I don’t like playing thief much, but neither do I want to see stealth removed from the game or changed drastically. It’s interesting finding counters to that mechanic and trying to predict where a thief will go to escape, just as it’s interesting to avoid wasting skills on clones or getting past guardian boons etc.

I think these are both pretty smart suggestions.
