Been thinking about this for awhile and I think I’ve come up with a list of good suggestions that the developers could implement. Some of these I’ve seen elsewhere and some of them popped into my head.

Game Strengthening Suggestions

LFG Browser: Note, this is not a request for a traditional LFG Tool that coldly drops you into a group with people you’ve never talked to. I feel a browser approach, that works a lot like the BLTC interface would be great. People go /LFG and they get an option to state what they’re LFG for and this list could be accessed anywhere in the game world. This would also require a ‘Group Looking for More’ functionality, where those LFG can get in contact with a group leader and get an invite. Invites should not be automatic. Being relegated to hanging out in LA while LFG when the devs have crafted such a beautiful world to wander seems almost a shame.

Guild System Revamp: IMO some mistakes were made with the original guild system. I don’t really think those can be fixed now, without causing all sorts of chaos, but what I think should be added are some elements to make guilds more social. A switchable notice about who’s logging in or out (providing they’re not invisible) and notices of achievement (again, providing the player in question isn’t set to invisible). More room to type stuff for the guild MOTD and a guild calendar would also go far.

Adding Alliances: This is an absolutely necessary thing IMO and with alliances, adding an alliance chat so people in different guilds can chat across to each other without switching the ‘Represent’ tag.

Guild vs Guild: Not a personal suggestion of mine, but one I would love to see instituted for all my fellow players who love PvP. This also would help strengthen having a reason to join a guild and maintain a strong bond with that guild.

Better Benefits for Being in a Guild: The bonuses are nice. They are, but there should be perhaps a trickle-down Karma gain for people who join a guild, stay in their guild and participate with their guild. Something like 400 karma per week, for maintaining a ‘Represent’ for a particular guild. That’s just an example, I think there could be a lot more for this one, I just haven’t thought of them.

Dynamic Events That Really Mean Doom if you Screw Them Up: I think of the dragon events specifically, which to me seem almost impossible to lose and if something happens that your group wipes? So what? Nothing really happens. People just continue to do whatever. There needs to be more consequences to failing to stop something terrible like a dragon, besides ‘ohnos, no lootz!’ More enemies in an area, zone-wide penalties until the dragon is slain, etc. Conversely, you could have zone-wide boons, like bonus to health or magic find for killing a dragon for a certain amount of time. This could be applied to the Orr temples as well which I consider to be largely lacking of any real consequence other than ‘ohnos, no lootz!’

Fractal Adjustment: Level progression through Fractals is fine; the fact that the current level progression excludes players and makes it nearly impossible for people to get a group for their specific level of fractal, isn’t fine. I would suggest a feature like the one all ready available in older dungeons, where just one person needs to have the desired level Fractal to start it and everybody else can enter, regardless of level. This would go far to quell a lot of upset people and fix some recent fracturing of guild continuity.

PvP Observation Mode: This was something that was in GW1 and I loved. I don’t much enjoy playing PvP, but I love watching good competitive matches. It can also serve as a learning tool for people learning how to play on sPvP teams, so you can see strategies, etc.

(continued in the next post).

Fluff Items

Name Changing: With the advent of makeover kits, being able to change your name now also becomes kind of important. If David the Destroyer, Human male Warrior suddenly becomes female…well, you can see where I’m going there.

More Stacking Things: I have a full basket of apples to my left and a full basket to my right. Tybalt comes along and eats five apples out of the basket to the right. Before I chase him off, he eats six out of the one to the left. So, I should be able to pour the right basket into the left basket and still have at least one full basket, right? For stuff like salvage kits, gathering tools, etc. I think we should be able to stack them up to 250.

Title: Pact Commander: Okay. You’ve saved Tyria from the dragon. For having to put up with being second fiddle to Trehearne the Not-So-Charismatic and countless hordes of Risen, I kind of think we should get to wear the title we’ve been given. Similarly, I think the same could be said for titles we receive earlier in our personal stories, like ‘Advocate to the Queen’ or ‘Hero of Shaemor’ or whatever.

Town Clothes We Can Make, or Hunt For: What’s the point of having tradeskills like tailoring and leather-working if we can’t make normal shirts, pants and bondage gear for our character’s every day lives? Further, I’d like to point out that hobos beat each other up for clothes all the time. We should be able to hunt certain NPC’s for that especially groovy hat, or interesting shirt.

That’s all I can think of for now. May add more later, if this gets a following.

More Game Strengthening Items

The Side Story: This would be an excellent way to keep interest in the game, for those of us who crave the ‘mission’ element of GW2. By expounding on the personal story, which could be triggered by NPC’s in random parts of the world, a player could get sent on a series of missions, that could lead to anything to a small reward, like karma and skill points, to a more epic adventure that leads to the eventual acquisition of a Legendary item. The latter of which particularly appeals to me, because I find nothing legendary or heroic about farming for matts and playing Russian Roulette with the Mystic Forge. I want to defeat evil and do great things to achieve my legendary item.

More Fluff

New Tradeskill: Tinkering: This would be the single greatest tradeskill ever, where we could make anything from bombs, to traps to mini-pets. Not a big fan of tradeskills, but this would be one I’d do with zeal.

New Weapons: I personally feel, especially with the Norn in the game, we need a Great Axe. I also think that the spear should be a weapon some classes can use above water as well as below. I would also enjoy seeing perhaps a crossbow added, seeing it was the evolutionary step between the longbow and the rifle. Seems odd that there isn’t one in game.

Yeah, about the ‘Russian Roulette’ element in-game when pursuing your Legendary. That has completely deterred me from ever working to get one. The idea that I have to work for hours on end and then even after that still not get the required items from the Mystic Forge is a complete turn-off. It’s just monotonous to grind for items which then will be wasted. As you said, I’d love to participate in something ‘Legendary’ if I’m working for my Legendary weapon. Farming and grinding just is the opposite on the spectrum.

Also, this is probably a very long way off but for a future race, I’d like to see something based around the Elder Dragons. Perhaps some race created from the ashes of the Elder Dragons’ destruction/remains. I think a lot of lore could be introduced which currently fits in with what you’ve got. I’d like nothing better to see that for all this time , a dragon-like creature had been a captive of the Dragons. First, this storyline would have to be introduced through a World Event chain but overall I reckon it would be a very interesting and successful race to play.

It’d be a lovely sight to see if the Dervish made a re-appearance as a playable Profession. It would use the suggested Great Axe for it’s 2h weapon. Then an obvious weapon, the Scythe would be used by the Necromancer too maybe. I could see lots of wonderful weapon designs for a scythe.. something equally as awesome as the Dhuum’s Soulreaper from GW1 would be amazing.

How about Claws as a new weapon type. They’d be so so cool. Imagine running about slicing things up with your claws!! Oh my, it would be great. They’d be used by the Dervish, Thief, Mesmer and any other new profession that would fit. They’d also come in pairs.

Another profession I’d like to see is a support class. A Bard perhaps. I have noticed that a few Dredge skills seem to have music notes as their animation and that is what gave me the idea. The Bard’s mysterious effects their songs have on enemies and allies alike would be a great help in Dungeons and other elements in-game.

And I don’t know if this is just me but I don’t have an urge to visit a city for more than 10 minutes, if that. There’s hardly anything to keep me interested. I want the cities to feel like CITIES. The only city I really spend time in is Lion’s Arch. Our race’s cities don’t shout for us to visit them, Lion’s Arch has pretty much everything we want.

Also, when I fall from a great height and I die, it can be frustrating, maybe we could have some skills like for what we get during the downed state, to save us while falling?

Yeah the farming aspect of it combined with the ‘not so legendary’ feeling of having to farm things at all, rather than earn it through some long series of events that leave you with a sense of accomplishment. It almost seems counter-intuitive to the ideas this game was based on.

I’ll add these two to the list. Scythe should really be its own weapon, IMO. Claws would be very cool.

I’m not really sure if a Dervish class would fit in GW2 (even though I loved playing mine in GW1) and I definitely don’t want to see a bard class. What would be neat? Give us back the Ritualist. Fits in the Guild Wars universe and would make a great support class.

I think they had capes in alpha or something, but ran into all sorts of model clipping issues. I miss having guild capes from GW1 also — a stupid backpack isn’t quite the same.

More Fluff!

New Weapons, Part II: A scythe for a new two-handed melee weapon and claws for a new one handed melee weapon. Because every kid wants to be the Grim Reaper and/or Wolverine.

Guild Capes: Generally speaking, wearing a bulky backpack while wearing the equivalent of a party dress, a bathrobe or bondage gear does not look very good. Capes however, make everybody feel like a super hero (villain). They were awesome in GW1 and if any rumored clipping issues could be resolved, they’d be neat in GW2.

Game Strengthening Items:

New Class – The Ritualist: A tried and true favorite from Guild Wars 1, the ritualist would be a good medium armor class that could act as either DPS, support or tanking via spirits. Unlike GW1, the spirits could move and attack, but would fade after a time and have to be re-summoned.
