I just started playing yesterday and rolled an Asura. I followed the chain of events in that little starting instance all the way up to the portal. When I entered I saw the briefest flash of something big’s death animation and was then spirited away to the entry Asura zone. I was kind of confused that I might have missed something in the starting the starting instance but I moved on anyway not really sure what I’d missed.

Today I quickly rolled an Asura warrior to see if maybe there was something I was supposed to have done prior to entering the portal. Nothing. I entered the portal like yesterday to see the large golem boss and thought “Oh, I guess this was the big awesome boss I was supposed to experience yesterday.”; the thing was already at half health and was dead maybe 30 seconds after I’d dropped into the event. Then like yesterday I was automatically spirited away to the starting zone.

I still don’t know what the heck was going on and still feel like I’ve missed something big.

I blame this on the auto zone out that happens once the boss is dead. Had I been allowed to linger until the event reset and experience the entire thing I wouldn’t have this sense that I missed a major part of the starting experience. Heck I even think certain characters were introduced to me during that fight but I totally missed it.

Yesterday my confusion was even worse due to the conversation between the guard my character speaks with after the event. I thought the whole conversation was referring to my character surviving the portal trip and the golem invasion. In fact I thought I’d just been ported from a totally different area. I actually spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get back to the starting area until I realized that it was a one time thing.

That auto zone out just has to go, as I’m certain I am not the only person who’s missed their starting even because of it. Players are going to come in late to it, so let us linger until it resets if we want to and give us an option to zone out if we don’t. I really want to see for myself what was going on there, but I’m not going to keep making new characters until I happen to show up when the event starts; it’s just an unreasonable thing to expect. This causes the starting experience of the game to begin with a whimper instead of a bang, and as new player I feel my initial venture into your game world was indeed a very flat and boring. I was dropped into a game world and told “Go find something to do”, which I did but that should have been enhanced by the knowledge that it was because that giant golem boss was just the tip of the iceberg.
