movement speed in/out of combat
Agreed. There are already crippling skills and such to slow down your movement. It’d also help the game feel that little bit more ‘alive’. I don’t like how slow I move in combat.
It’s a pain yes, but it’s a standard mechanic used in a quite a few MMO’s. Its to ensure that you can’t outrun a mob, so you are forced to actually kill the thing that you have aggroed (regardless of its skillset), rather than just train it around the zone until it leashes back. That is, unless you are already at sufficient range to manage to outrun it at the slower speed.
In short: its a necessary evil to make you consider your immediate surroundings. Just like how repair costs make you consider the consequences of your actions.
i don’t see it as necessary evil but more as just plain evil, yes it stops you from just running through, but why is that so bad? resetting a mob would entail you attacked it to begin with, if i wanna run through a horde of mobs and risk getting snared, stunned, or knockdown its on me, but i shouldn’t have to worry about them just auto attacking me so that i lose, what looks to me like, 20-33% of my movement speed when i just want to travel through a zone.
this is also a huge hindrance to any class meant to kite, for example my ranger. i like to be able to slow mobs down, knock them back and continue to fire at them while i run away. its no where near as successful when the mobs move almost twice as fast as you do because you have combat speed. it just seems to punish combat more than it stops trucking through zones, because even when i get slowed i still pop a ms spell and dodge away from mobs to escape that on hit slow.
useless combat punishing mechanic should be dropped.
With good kiting, evading and speed boosting skills/traits; it’s quite easy to leave enemies in your dust. While it can be annoying in places such as Orr, it isn’t too bad and makes people play the game as intended. As for kiting while actually fighting the enemy, it doesn’t make much of a difference – it’s possible to fight some (not all) champion mobs without getting hit.
Now, those annoying mobs that spam long duration cripples and chills… they’re a totally different matter and should be dealt with.
