I agree with Mad. Scaling + minimum required players is a really good compromise. That wouldn’t be considered a nerf, and it would still keep Teq as pretty Elite/Challenging.

Clearly “hard mode” bosses in your book are just stationary foes with 2 attacks and a MASSIVE health pool. No other way to make a boss fun/“elite”(such a stupid saying) right? This ISN’T HARD, why can noone get that through their thick skulls, all it takes is a HUGE group in a precise location SPAMMING 1 just like how you say you don’t want bosses to be. So plz kitten and sit down.

So hey! How many times did you beat Tequatl v2.0 with a zerg spamming “1”?

Tequatl and all of his boss-brethren needed an update badly.
Standing around spamming 1 was terrible design.
I love his new mechanics. Jumping the waves is amazingly fun. The turrets being essential is great. Requiring players to both attack and defend is fantastic.

That said, this is too hard for open-world content. Even if this was Zhaitan himself, no open-world content should be designed that a ‘regular’ group of players can’t complete it given some effort. That means that Tequatl should be able to be beaten by a group of 30~ lvl 65~ players in green~ lvl 65~ gear.

This dragon as is would be amazing in an instance. He puts Zhaitan to shame.
However in the open world, it just doesn’t fit the game that ArenaNet said they were making, and even as a player who enjoys challenging content (SAB Trib Mode, Liadri <3), I doubt I’ll continue to pursue this as-is.

If it would only take 30 people to kill Teq, then it’s no longer an Elite Boss fight. At that point, you just made “Easy Mode” Tequatl. You might as well ask for the old Teq back, where you just stand under him and spam “1”.

let me get this straight if you have 30 people working together to kill a boss, its no longer elite content? but trying to get 100+ random people to work together and its now elite content? if you mean a elite pain in the kitten sure, but its not an elite challenge. just an elite annoyance.

so by your logic having to get more people to make it more elite is good content, then by that same logic all dungeons are noob content since they only require 5 people, and the queens gauntlet is baby mode content since it only requires 1 person.

theres 1 problem with your theory Gw2 doesn’t have enough elitist to fund the numbers to kill tequatl if none of the “baddies” bothered which they honestly shouldn’t since its crap reward to begin with compared to what you have to do to complete it.
if tequatl stays the way he is then its just gonna be karka queen 2.0, but instead of having an entire zone with 0 players it just gonna have 1 waypoint.
so do you think its smart to create content thats gonna be forgotten by the majority but hailed by numbers so little that they cant complete it themselves?

watch bogotters vid of bg’s win on youtube. 90% of those people didnt even bother to jump the waves, all they did was stand under him and spam skills, dont kid yourself the only hard mode about this is waiting in the zone for 8 hours to get into your servers main map, so you can communicate in a single language and/or on a single voip server. CLEARLY me not beating Teq 2.0 is all on my player skill right, riiiiight. Doesn’t have anything to do with 100+ other people in the zone fighting/akitteng him.

I’ll just put this here since I still feel this is a better solution, since it focuses more on individual player skills instead of 100+ people having to follow the orders of someone with 100g that bought a blue dorito.

Watching the BG video, most of their DPS people DID’NT dodge the waves and stayed in the poison and went down multiple times. It was actually kinda sad that basically all it took to defeat him was 100+ people standing as close together as possible, and 6 competent people on the turrets that knew to hit Teq with 2 every time it was up and to cleanse/buff the zergball as much as possible. Oh and a few people to kill the risen around the turrets.

What they should do instead of “nerfing” Teq, is to cut his health by 1/2, make him do his Wave about twice as much in the first phase, increase the poison, whirlpools. Double/triple the amount of risen going after the turrets. Keep the defending of the megalazer and such(I really like how they added a new dimension to the boss fight). Basically what I’m saying is to increase the rate of his normal attacks making it harder to just stand and DPS him, while also decreasing his health to make it reasonable to be able to kill him while dodging/rezzing/killing risen.

I wish they had tuned the scaling better from the get-go. It had the potential to be something really amazing but it seems to mostly just buff health and increase add count. rather than actually modify the events in any way. Maybe they could add a function where Teq. gets new abilities depending on how many players are present?

:[ See that’s sad because jumping the waves is an amazing mechanic and should be more meaningful. Putting more emphasis on individual player skill in situations like this makes much more interesting combat than putting emphasis on mass group organization.

So you agree with me that spamming “1” is not going to win the fight? I mean, how does one rez while doing nothing else?

The fact here is that people are mad that they can’t beat the new Tequatl. This is Elite level content. Players who understand the game mechanics, and thus USE the mechanics to beat a hard boss, are clearly in the Elite league. Meteor Shower, Ice Bow, Banner Rez, piloting turrets, etc.

HOW IS THIS HARD? Noone has been able to answer this. His attacks aren’t hard to dodge, it’t not hard for a server to fight off the attackers around the megalazer, and anyone with half a brain can use a turret unless they are afk/trolling, or haven’t done the event before. All it takes is a HUGE ZERG sitting in a spot that the turrets can buff everyone to oblivion.

I think using terms like Elite can be confusing because it is defined differently.

Tequatl doesn’t require that high of an individual player skill right now. As people have pointed out mechanics like jumping the waves can be ignored completely. Liadri was much more challenging and required much greater player skill.

You can’t possibly be serious with this, right? Surely there’s hidden sarcasm in there somewhere.

This boss has been beaten using WvW zerg stacking strategy. Please explain to me how that is somehow more elite than a small group of players working together to overcome a high level fractal run (for example).

Newsflash, you were lucky enough to be on a server with enough people that had to willingness and ability to coordinate. Most of us are not that lucky. But that makes us bad players right? Bad players who don’t understand the mechanics of the game and refuse to use the proper skills? That’s because the fight itself is not hard. There is nothing that difficult about the mechanics. It’s just how they are implemented.

People can’t beat it because:
– The fight is too reliant on the turrets.
– The fight does not seem to scale well to less number of players.
– The best way to win is to stack and smack with turret buffs (which is actually really lame and boring).

This is only one single event in the Open World.

Keep in mind that this is just one boss event, yes, but ANet has every intention of updating all of them. I imagine someday Shadow Behemoth will get an overhaul too. Just as with the dungeons they already have stated that Ascalon was the first dungeon overhaul but they want to do others.

It may be one event now, but if every event is tuned in this same manner then world-events will no longer be something that players can happen upon and enjoy.

I’m not saying to nerf the fight so it is 100% beatable by people standing around spamming 1 again. We all agree that was terrible and no bosses should be like that.

I’m saying to tune the fight so that average players can defeat it. If you’re in an overflow with 30-50 people that shouldn’t mean automatic failure. Make jumping the waves more critical, make the fight less reliant on the turrets, and make condition builds more viable (conditions being terrible in this game is a whole different topic though).

you do know that every other world boss just got a damage and health buff with a timer, they didn’t actually get reworked like teq.
these world bosses can be easily ignored, and they will be if all of them are reworked. it won’t make the whole game meaningless but it’ll make the bosses anet worked so kitten, meaningless when nobody cares to do it.

and i’d love to see you try and solo world bosses in 15 minutes because its finally suitable for you and you alone while not for the rest of the game.
its great design to focus on a extremely small majority that refuses to look for challenging content themselves and just have it ignored by the majority because its not worth the time.

It is fun when you use your skills to beat a hard boss. Soon, all World Bosses will be like Tequatl.

you mean not being done and forgotten? developers like it when they create content that people ignore because its not worth the effort.
you may have some large guild organize a event to kill it, but is it really worth it? to create content thats only done by large guilds for kittens and giggles?

This is only one single event in the Open World. Shadow Behemoth is easy. Fire Ele is still doable. Putting something hard in a tiny area of the World Map, and the game becomes meaningless? There will be those who ignore the hard/challenging/elite content, and there will be those who seek it out.

Still didn’t answer my question.

Which question? Why certain people can’t beat it? Or why Anet updated Tequatl to be much harder?

you do know that every other world boss just got a damage and health buff with a timer, they didn’t actually get reworked like teq.
these world bosses can be easily ignored, and they will be if all of them are reworked. it won’t make the whole game meaningless but it’ll make the bosses anet worked so kitten, meaningless when nobody cares to do it.

and i’d love to see you try and solo world bosses in 15 minutes because its finally suitable for you and you alone while not for the rest of the game.
its great design to focus on a extremely small majority that refuses to look for challenging content themselves and just have it ignored by the majority because its not worth the time.

It’s never a good idea to bring “allness statements” to a debate. It won’t be empty because “nobody cares to do it”. As I said earlier. There will be those who avoid the new bosses, and there will be those who seek them out. Certain people love punishing content. These people are players, same as you and me, so it make sense to release content that they can enjoy.

Side note – Within an hour of the update, players complained that Tequatl was impossible to beat. A day or so later, there are those who now say Tequatl is easy because you can zerg him, but then complain that they still can’t beat him because they can’t guest on the right zerg server.

Wow, just, wow. I’m almost speechless. THIS is the Elite level content people wanted? This is what people have to do to become elite? I’ve always though Player skill was the way to become elite, but I guess I just have to guest to BG/TC and sit in overflow for 8 hours till someone DCs to become Elite. Sounds fun?

I’m elite because I can follow orders, read, multitask, have exotic gear and know to wp when dead?

Well…

Welcome to the team!

That’s it. I call troll.

Not sure how me liking challenging content counts as troll. I love it when I fail something hard. It makes me a better player, because it forces me to learn from my mistakes.

Most people complaining also enjoy hard content. Hell, I barely left tribulation mode after it got released. They have no quarrel with the difficulty imposed by the fight itself or the mechanics of the fight. What they DO have a problem with is the fact that they are stuck with people who have every right to be there, but don’t have the required grasp of the game to actually do well in this content. Or that they are stuck with people afk’ing near or on the turrets.

You have been so lucky to be on a server without all that and you wrongfully assume that it’s like that everywhere else. That’s why I think you are trolling. You are ignoring every argument about how most servers are struggling to get people out of /afk and off the turrets or how some servers just have less skilled people on them.

The effort some of the commanders, people and guilds on my server took, is by no means inferior to what happened on yours. Yet here the result is demoralizing because we get stuck with more casual players (again, they have every right to be there) or people going afk. You are being condescending in assuming that we are all bad simply because we have people that refuse to cooperate.

Ok, I agree that it’s disheartening to have people AFK or purposely troll on turrets. But you should not be able to exclude people simply because they don’t know how to play the encounter with Teq. In time they’ll learn too.

There’s no middle ground here, since you can’t just pick and choose who to kick. You can report who you think are trolls, but some Devs said in the past that it’s hard to differentiate those who don’t know what they’re doing, from those who try to make the event fail. So unless you have rock solid proof that they’re trolling (i.e. screen caps of them admitting), there’s not much that can be done.

Well that’s why you see a lot of complaints saying that this should be instanced, not because it’s too hard by itself but because bad players or trolls are capable of simply disrupting the event. It’s seemingly too difficult for a lot of players to perform wel or atleast not go afk. Just like you, most of us enjoy difficult content, just not when you have to carry 30-50 people on your back.

I know it will probably not be instanced, so I’m not sure what else but a nerf can be done. On top of that, it’s also turning out to be pretty toxic for the player environment and for the overal community spirit. It looks like I’ll have to guest on Desolation or go with the TKS guild (great effort by some wonderful people to get motivated players together) to get this done.

EDIT: I actually got the taste for raiding again and I’m patching up swtor. I can pick the people I raid with there, that might cure the ache.

I think you dont know the definition of Elite.

e·lite or é·lite (-lt, -lt)
n. pl. elite or e·lites
1.
a. A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status: “In addition to notions of social equality there was much emphasis on the role of elites and of heroes within them” (Times Literary Supplement).
b. The best or most skilled members of a group: the football team’s elite.

If you say an OPEN WORLD boss that everyone can comes by give it a shot, no matter their level (65+) they gear and their skill then its not elite content.

Elite by many years have meant exclusion and i cant exclude people for Tequatl im stuck with whatever comes into the overflow or whoever guest on my Home world.

i applaud your paradoxical thinking OP.
