Last night’s dungeon experience (AC P3) gave me some more insight into why the elitists feel as they do. I joined a group advertising for “P3 – 80’s exp”, since I only had 45 mins before I had to log off. Everybody that joined was indeed level 80, but one player very quickly demonstrated that they had no clue what to do. I had a look at their AP score (980-something), and that pretty much clued me in that this was probably their first time in AC Explorable.

Unfortunately, while myself and another player tried to communicate with the newbie player, they never said a word in reply. (Maybe they didn’t speak English?) This newbie player kept constantly dying by standing in traps, fighting mobs that the rest of us ran through, and other similar acts that experienced players would know to avoid. We eventually had to leave them dead and engage Colossus Rumblus with 4 players (and we still beat the boss handily). The newbie player left immediately after the dungeon reward was given, so several of the other players quickly concluded they just wanted to get run through the dungeon.

I’m not so certain that’s the case; the fact that their AP score was so low suggests it was probably more a player who was just trying out dungeons for the first time, and either didn’t speak English or was just too shy to communicate. But I can understand the frustration of the other players who felt the newbie wasn’t pulling their weight.

The really scary thing though? The newbie player was wearing T3 Cultural human armor. O.o

Lol that IS scary. I detest people who keep quiet when I ask questions. Usually at the start I’ll ask outright if everyone knows what to do (despite the occasional ‘LFM experienced only’ when I have limited time to play). If they keep quiet, keep making mistakes, being generally unapologetic and continue keeping quiet after repeated advice…waves goodbye

I always ask if people know the path if I am not sure about it. Like very low AP. But sometimes you be suprised. Even new players can pull their weight.

Dying or making a mistake is always possible. But it is very annoying if you try to explain it to people and they don’t listen or don’t even try to make an effort. Then they get kicked.

If I end up in a party that skips too much for me I am always offering to leave if I think I cannot put up with them in case I am not very good at this dungeon. In general I do not like skippig everything. I like some speedier runs, but by playing well not by trying to save a few secs. There are thrash mobs that are designed to be skipped.

Problem here is that people refuse to read descriptions or do not understand them.

If you join an “EXP. 6K+ EXP” you know what you will come into. That is not “elistst” it’s just a speedrun. "How can you be more clear that “BE EXPERIENCED”.

People will carry other people to a certain extent. But if you are not listening or not learning you will be kicked. Some people are more forgiving then others of course.

TA is not extreme here. If you are not good with the Dungeon – because it is new for you – look for a casual group preferable one with TeamSpeak so you can discuss stuff and find out stuff. You need to get through a learning curve. There is no other way. Or make up a new group and ask for a guide.

There is no shame it not knowing stuff. We all had to learn how things work.

If people want to learn a lot of experienced players jump in to help them out as they want to master something.

In the Aetherblade path people need to coordinate a bit more. For example the final boss. If you have aggro and do not kite it half way to the next holo mob and the mob to him you’ll wipe quickly. Also if you stay not close, the boss will throw gears which are annoying. The result is a wipe unless you guys are good dodgers (range is harder, even Caithe tells you to melee the boss). Yeah, wipes can happen.

If all people do it correctly regardsless of their ability this fight is easy. But one single person can sabotage it and you will get wiped because of this person over and over again. And experienced players know the signs of someone that is in over his head.

But if you make a mistake people will tell you. Nobody gets kicked for one mistake once a run has begun unless is really ridiculous and they stated they have experience.

So if you having problem with Elitist tell the truth if you are not good at something yet and they will tell you if they will accept this. Honesty helps here a lot. They will even carry you if you are honest. Don’t say you done it and know it, if you barley made it though. Tell them where you have problems or do not know what to do. People will help you. And for TA even more as it is new content. You need to listen.

And if you are kicked while often lying on your back, just use a more tanky build. Doing less DPS is not that much of a problem as dying. So play more tanky. If ther group in general lacks DPS it will show. But a little less is not of an issue. You don’t crit lying on your back.

I was never kicked out of a FULL ZERKER group even if I was running with a tanky build. No one really notice the difference as long as you pull your weight.

Never joined a “PING GEAR” CoF1 party. This path is so laughable easy, you can run it naked with green items.

Full disclosure: only path I was ever kicked from was the Ghostbusters one in AC, my second try n dungeons after AC p1. I was way in over my head in retrospective. I still hate it. The kick was the correct decision. I did not really mastered my class yet to the extend I could actually listen and understand what I need to do. And with just 5 men this shows. But they carried me a very long time anyway.

I actually prefer to kill everything I come across in dungeons (more loot!), EXCEPT when the mobs do not give XP or loot, in which case there’s no point fighting them and I agree it’s better just to run past.

I just wanted to add that I haven’t done the dungeon since day 3 of the update. I beat it with a pug during my first try with 0 heavies on the team and 2 rangers (me included). I enjoy a bit more demanding content but MMO communities tend to overcomplicate these.

The man who can wield the power of this sword can summon to him an army
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.

I’m really nice and instead write “Experienced please <3”.

But yeah, some people can be really rude.

I’m lucky and play a mesmer though so I don’t tend to get kicked.

by the gods every single party i go as soon some kid is downed he rage quits if not someone else requests a kick

or worse if someone asks somethign as simple as Who’s gonna tank the fire eles on the ooze part he gets kicked cuz to the others he’s a “noob”

really people what is wrong with you you want everything handed to you without putting effort nor learning nor letting others learn about the content?

Its always been this way. Fotm… no GW1… exactly then same.

I dont mind explaining fights and think everyone should learn to do the content. Simply saying… its always been like this.

(More proof: CoF Zerk War groups only, Tequatl failing, and dungeons in adventure mode.)
Granted the cof runs have stopped because the loot nerf, but there is still a ton of elitists

I simply do not pug, i play with friends or guildies i know are competent or when someone i trust vouches for that person.

I broke my own rule when i wanted the last Arah run to get the legs i wanted for my Warrior. Boy that sure reminded me why i never pug and only reinforced me in my believe.

First group was pretty clueless. The only one that seemed to know what to do was an kitten. A thief that would Shadow Refuge himself, no one else, and then complain the rest didnt skip the pack. Refusing any form of coordination or teamplay.

Second group was utterly clueless. Died superfast, had laughable damage, none slotted any usefull utility skills, and marking a prime target simply resulted in that targt being ignored.

Left out of sheer frustration. What a waste of time. I was just hoping i was wrong about my ideas on randoms, but i was very much spot on.

Wow. I’ve been really lucky, I guess. I’ve only been in dungeons a few times, for various reasons.

But lately, I decided to really give them a try. What I found was that people are generally very nice and don’t mind telling you what you need to do. (At least, they don’t mind much.)

2 of the dungeons, we repeatedly wiped on various parts and there was no name calling. I even offered to quit one of them and let someone with more experience join, and they said I didn’t have to. I ended up quitting both because of real life constraints.

The 3 dungeons I completed, 2 were speed runs and 1 was story mode. The speed runs were good about telling what to do, though the second one said “I can only assume the 2 people who didn’t run haven’t done this dungeon before.” A bit curt, but at least we now knew what to do. The other was nice the whole time.

Of course, I’ve been mindful of the groups I’m joining. If they say ‘experienced only’, I just don’t bother, of course.

In general, I’ve avoided any groups that really seem to be intense, from their party description. I was worried that this would put me in a group with nothing but noobs and we’d repeatedly wipe because they couldn’t work together, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised each time. When we were wiping, I didn’t feel like the group was dysfunctional, just that we didn’t know what we were doing.

In the end, I’ve been quite pleased with my experiences in dungeons so far. Since I was a pre-order customer, you can imagine that I didn’t expect to really like dungeons, and simply avoided them. I only switched recently because I finally hit level 80 (I didn’t play for many months) and got some decent equipment.

Please dont join groups that say “Experienced only”. I dont feel like taking an hour to get past the ooze part. You will be kicked. K thx.

The people who usually say things like this are the ones who cause the most problems. Rushing ahead when there are mobs that will kill you if you don’t get rid of them first, rushing headfirst into AoE attacks from bosses, and these people are the first ones to get killed usually. The “leet” attitude only serves to make it so you think you’re better than everybody else, so their petty egos can’t handle when it’s their fault.
