I agree with the OP. It should only be where and when, and maybe a general description.
Plus the on-time in game mails are really helpful and they should include the details imo.

I think this level of detail is great – really useful for those of us who have very busy holiday periods and want to catch as much of the event as possible. If you don’t want to know details then don’t read the details!

I definitely prefer they amount of info they gave this time, as opposed to Halloweens. I want to know when certain things are happening, even if it kinda gives away the story, because that way I can plan ahead. Knowing the more important days helps people decide what days to take off from stuff (if they’re gonna).
(Come on, does knowing the toys revolt come as that much of a surprise? What else would happen with a Asura toymaker…)
I hope they follow the same type of info reveal for the rest of the up coming stuff (Januarys, February’s, and whatever other ones that come after).

I prefer it this way. Both Halloween and Lost Shores were very confusing and I had no idea what was new and how to find it. I don’t necessarily want a step-by-step guide, but this is a good move.

Remember, if you don’t want to know then you can choose not to read it. However, for those of us who do want to know, it’s nice. Really everyone can get what they want here.

I really like this level of detail, but I agree that a ‘spoiler’ clicky for the extra event details would help both types of player (aaagh spoiler vs more info!).

I suppose this level of detail is best for people with tighter schedule. I agree the spoiler tag would be better for everyone.
As for the question of what is a spoiler and what is just reasonable info – I guess for me it’s that telling us exactly what each NPC is going to do just makes it feel more scripted and artificial than an actual event taking place. I think what should be tagged as a spoiler is the kind of event you can’t really foresee as a resident of the game world. i.e. the toys revolting should be a spoiler and where Tixx is gonna stop by each day shouldn’t.

If you don’t want to know event details… Just don’t read them and enjoy your “surprise”.
The devs are trying to listening to their community, everyone was asking to know where we are supposed to be and when.
It’s also a wonderful thing they’ll let people enjoy all the events again when the ship will be in Lion’s Arch. I’m glad they stopped with the “one-time incredible event” policy, a lot of players were complaining they had to work, to sleep, they were away… Finally everyone can enjoy all the content during the Xmas period without anxiety… “oh my… if I won’t be online at the exact scheduled time I will miss something forever”.
I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun this time

We tried our best to leave in some surprise without leaving the majority of players feeling lost and unaware of what activities are available for Wintersday (as was very much the case with Halloween). There’s one major missing piece of information that I’m sort of surprised no one has taken note of, which is exactly what toys the toymaker will be making.

I think you guys struck the perfect balance with the information you’ve provided. The information teases the event, it doesn’t spoil it!

Honestly, I’ve never understood why people so sensitive about “spoilers” can’t just take personal responsibility and avoid anything they fear might spoil something for them. It wouldn’t take more than a few seconds scrolling down the official Wintersday page to decide whether or not proceeding to actually read the details might “spoil” something. Anyone who then goes on to read the entire page has no grounds for blaming anyone but themselves. If you don’t want to know anything about an event prior to the event, avoid pages and threads about the event!

I personally want even more info before events, but I understand the desire to maintain some surprises so I’m fine with the level of detail provided.

Yay! A long schedule with precise dates. Much better this time around ANet! You even have a backup plan should the 1 day visits be interrupted by bugs or whatever since you can rerun events for a good span of time later. Excellent.

Alas I don’t think I’ll be making any of it though through no fault of yours this time. My PC seems to be slowly dying and no longer can start up GW2. Ah well, such is life! Enjoy Wintersmonth(?) everyone.

ANet has been saying in more than one thread, that they would provide more details this time around. Given that, logic dictates that the updated agenda would have more in-depth information than previous attempts. If you read the agenda, knowing this, and felt cheated because ANet did exactly what they said they would, the fault is yours, not theirs.

LMAO!

When i first started reading this i couldn’t help but not laugh….

Seriously!? you want less information – could of sworn last week all i knew was the start date of wintersday – Dec 14th. The info we got – something happening in each city…

Hows that for ya? too much? not enough?

Last i checked you had to click on a link to get MORE information – so if you didn’t want it, dont click it.. doesn’t get any more simpler than that…or better yet, avoid the websites/forums… hell when i log into the client i dont read the update and just click play! (unless its a patch update with profession changes).

Information will always be open to interpretation – it is one of the most difficult things to judge since some want more and others like yourself want less, walking on eggshells doesn’t mean none will crack…

I for one am glad that Anet decided to give as much as they have. But all i keep seeing is toy this and toy that! I’ll just be happy to kill some mini lego men and watch their pieces pop off!

Sorry, disagree completely. I’d like to know exactly what’s happening so I can plan my gaming around my busy schedule. I’ll trade ‘suspense’ for the ability to know what exactly I’m getting into. If anything, I want MORE details. Anet vaguely advertised Mad King and Karka day 3 as ‘1-time events that would change the face of Tyria.’ Well the former was a 15-sec cutscene that blew up a fountain and the latter was a 3 hour event that gave out exotics and maybe precursors at the end.

A lot of people were asking for better pre-event information after those events, glad to see Anet is responding.

Why is it that time and time again I have to post the following? Its getting tiring so i’ll say it one more time: I am not saying less information is needed, I am saying there should be a different way of giving out the information in order to maintain surprise and/or the lore of GW2.

Please tell me what the difference is between the following events:

a) Toymaker Tixx’s robots will go berzerk. Save him and Lions Arch from them at 10:00.
b) Toymaker Tixx needs help cleaning up his contraptions at the end of a busy week in Lions Arch. Knowing Tixx, things may not go as smoothly as planned Join him at 10:00!

Both tell you the time, location and type of challenge. a ruins the surprise and lore, b doesnt. If the creators of the event cannot create ways to mask the challenges then at least create a spoiler free page for those of us that dont want to break the immersion of the game with links to find out more if you shall wish.

I agree that it could be nice to see less descriptive information, but we have to bear in mind that some people will want to know exactly what’s going on so they can choose whether to participate or not.

Just avoid all information on the even other than times etc.The only thing I currently know about the event are the dates that Tixx will be in certain cities and that there will be snow.

I don’t want spoilers but i’m worried everyone else got hints on what is going to be in demand and will buy up 2000 of every wintersday item and when I let the story unfold, prices would be sky high. I’d prefer they kept it tight-lipped until the event starts, and to avoid confusion, provide very CLEAR and CONCISE info in-game about what activities there are.

“A” tells me there will be combat and that it’s worth doing my best to be there, since I can expect loot. “B” suggests that it’s maybe just a mediocre cutscene and I shouldn’t feel bad about skipping it. After all, stage 3 was the real climax of Halloween, not stage 4.

I fall into the camp that’s really glad they’re clear about when, where, and what this time around, since I do have to prioritize my time.

I like that they are giving a generous amounts of information, because they put a TON of holiday content in the game and I mean it, it’s really a huge amount that can take several days to explore thoroughly.
For example, I was somewhat stunned by the variety of content that was introduced in the Halloween event. I found myself checking out the wiki pages over and over again just to navigate through it.
I understand that some people like to explore everything for themselves, but have some sympathy for us, lazy players

Anet doesn’t have to put out these events, they could might as well be like “thanks for your money! Enjoy the game, peace!!” but they don’t. They put a lot of work into making these events. Even if it is a way for them to make money I don’t mind throwing down a few extra dollars supporting a game I like, better than wasting my money on a game you “rent” for $15 a month with lame events. I would enjoy the extra content if they handed me the blue prints to every event or not. It’s Guild Wars 2 I payed for it, I’m getting my money’s worth

I am sure you meant you will shoot the server/ hard drives/ whatever accomodates T. and due to the lack of an appropriate back-up there will be nothing left of his existence and he will be gone? (But you’ll never know if there is some replacement, waiting to take over after T. died under some mysterious circumstances.. it could be better, but it could also be a lot worse :-D)

Anyway, my position to him is quite neutral, but it sounds fun. xD
