Finally finished with this after doing a lot of character designs for the better part of last year. This is a redraw of an older character piece from five years ago, the second file posted. The Guild Wars franchise has been a significant influence on my art – it’s when I fell into the fantasy genre and found out that digital painting was a thing. I definitely played GW1 more than I should have and played GW2 for a good while as well.

But with work, relationships and everything else in life, I no longer have any time for games anymore. I’ll always love Guild Wars and will still make art for it, but this is my farewell piece to the game itself for now. This is my own take on my characters and how I imagine they would appear in Tyria, each visually distinct in terms of cultural armor and personality.

So here are my favorite characters, some of them who’ve been with me since GW1 and have changed a bit since the start of GW2.

Trying to do something for the fanforge – just another excuse for me to draw more GW1 related lore stuff. Also some color/render practice of my Norn Lobelia’s daggers.

Been doing a lot of color studies lately that have been helping a lot with palette, mood and form.

I’ve been sitting on this drawing for a while now and finally decided to finish it. My sub to the Fanforge page, “Impossible Odds”. Been trying to do some new things with my work lately after all the studies and skill building exercises I’ve been doing lately. Tried making this piece a little bit more surreal feeling after taking a lot of inspiration from Zdzislaw Beksinski. Also trying to experiment a bit more with colors (though I could push them more), edge control, silhouettes, and focusing on when to keep things loose vs. detailed for contrasting focus.
