Begin Chapter 3

The food arrived and everyone found a nice place to sit. Taimi however was deep in thought. Her almost “Hero” worship of Scarlet, blinded her to what she(Scarlet) ultimately was doing. She knew the danger of joining her or getting to close, but she hadn’t really thought about what she did, how many lost their lives, how many suffered, because of one out of control person. “Knowledge is indeed Power” she thought, “But we must learn to control that power or it can cause great harm and suffering to others”. She looked around for Proto, he was sitting and staring at his plate. Taimi approached him and asked if she could join him, he gave a weak smile and nodded. “Proto, it’s not your fault your father was in Lions Arch, he was an inventor, the Arch is, well was a hub of commerce. If he wasn’t working on your goggles, he would have been looking for something else. Scarlet is to blame, plain and simple. Not you. Now.. EAT”. Proto blinked and took a bite of his food. Then another and soon he was eating. “Sir?” said Proto. “Yes?” replied Taimi. “Thank you..”. Taimi smiled and said “No problem, I can’t have my friend being sad all the time can I?”. “You think of me as your friend?” Asked Proto looking very touched. Taimi chuckled and said,“Of course silly, why wouldn’t I, you’re fun to be with and we have a lot in common, that sounds like friendship to me.” Proto thought a moment and said. “Indeed it does Sir”.

As the food was consumed and the day wore on, the others made their way to various destinations. Soon Taimi and Proto were alone again. Taimi said, “I want to explore, comin?”. “Certainly, I’m ready when you are!” said Proto snapping to attention. Taimi stood and looked at Scruffy, “Scruffy, please lift us both and prepare for travel”. Scruffy stood and reached for each in turn, and placed them on his shoulders. “Okay. hold on tight Proto, til you get used to the ride!” Laughed Taimi. “Oh Dear, whoa…” Proto went from standing to sitting to hanging on. But soon got the hang of it. They made their way to the stage where Kookoochoo was getting ready to preform. “I like this, it’s mindless entertainment but fun.” said Taimi sitting and getting comfortable. Proto looked on and enjoyed the show. “I wonder how he got the name Incredulous?”, “Did he make some great discovery?” asked Proto. “More than likely he took it to impress the crowds, like half the professors in Rata Sum, they discover and rediscover eachothers work and argue about credit, and ownership.” replied Taimi sounding a bit preachy. “Fact finding and the checking of data is very important Sir.” stated Proto. “True”, said Taimi, “but discovery for the sake of glory is meaningless. If no one really benefits from it, it’s just a vanity.” she added. Taimi was showing her own intellect, and pondered “Wow did I just say that? Guess I did learn something in class afterall.” She shrugged and went back to watching the show.

More time passed and the two travelled all over, they tried lots of drinks, and asked lots of questions. While they looked on and commented back and forth on some new device they saw, a loud crack was heard and a familiar face droped in, literally. “Oh my…” said Proto jumping backwards. “Sorry friend, didn’t mean to startle you”. Taimi looked up and smiled, “It’s ok, Mysti this is Proto, Proto this is Mysti Shadowcaster, another member of the team”. Proto gathered himself and extended his hand, “I’m most happy to make your aquaintence Ma’am”. Mysti smiled and shook his hand gently, being Norn she didn’t want to hurt her new friend. “So what are you two up to, getting into any trouble?” asked Mysti. “No, not yet..” replied Taimi with a wink. “Well there’s plenty of daylight left, I’m sure you’ll find some.” replied Mysti sitting on a crate, “light walking is fun but it can be tiring. Have you two eaten yet?” She asked. “Not lately” replied Proto. “You’re always hungry Proto, honestly where do you put it all?” laughed Taimi. “I’ll grab something very special, be right back”. Mysti stood and made some motions with her hands and a mysterious circle appeared below her. All of a sudden she vanished, only to return a few moments later with food. “My word, a self contained multi dimensional traveling device. What powers it?” asked Proto most intently. “Me..” replied Mysti. “Huh?” remarked Proto. “Proto, Mysti is a Memser, she used magic”. “Oh, I see.. ummm”. Proto stopped and looked perplexed. “Okay Proto, out with it.” Said Taimi. “Sir, what is magic? I always thought it was just some Bookah term for the unexplained. Science explains all, and therefor magic cannot exist”. Taimi rolled her eyes, and replied “Yeah I remember that class, talk about a Bookah”. She started laughing and didn’t realize Proto wasn’t laughing with her. “Sir, I beleive I have some data to collect, I’ll rejoin you in a bit.” Said proto walking off in a huff.

“Taimi, I think you hurt his feelings” Whispered Mysti. “Nah, he just probably forgot something, he’ll be fine.” said Taimi in between bites of her snack. “Okay, I’d better be off, you need transport back?” Taimi shook her head and said “I better wait here, Proto will be worried if I leave.” “Okay, be careful.. see ya later.” replied Mysti as she leapt over the railing and was gone. Time pased rather slowly, sitting there alone, after a few hours Taimi wondered if maybe Proto was back up top and and looking for her. “Scruffy, let’s go. Lift please” the pair set off for their makeshift camp and noticed a group of people standing where she usually sat. Lady Kasmeer turned and saw them coming and ran to them, “Oh Taimi you had us so worried.” She gushed and hugged Taimi to her. “Hey, easy.. what gives? Something wrong? I was only gone a little while. Proto and I, where is he? Isn’t he back yet?”. Taimi looked a bit worried now, where was Proto? Kas turned away and looked at Jory. Jory walked over and knelt by Taimi. Taimi, when we couldn’t find you, we started looking. If it weren’t for Mysti stopping by we’d still be looking. We were just going to head over to where you were and you showed up". “I’m sorry, I should have left a note, are you very angry with me?” asked Taimi. “No Darlin, but I have something to tell you, and it’s not good”. Taimi was getting a little scared. “Proto must have been wandering around, watching the light walkers, and gotten too close to the edge of the cliff. He fell Darlin, one of the Zepherites saw him go over, they are searching all the ledges and cliffs now. We are hoping he’s ok, but, well he’s so small, and the winds are so strong, we just don’t know where he could be”. Taimi blinked and finally said.. “Proto.. noooooooooooooo he can’t be gone, he just can’t. Scruffy, scan the area for Proto, do a full search.”. Scruffy stood and began searching. He made his way down towards the next level and disappeared. Taimi and the rest sat anxiously. “He should know to be more careful, his vision isn’t that good”. She pretended to be mad at him, but inside she was a very scared little Asuran. She wanted her friend back safe, now!
