Before we’d turn this place into our playground, I think I’m forced to reveal some stuff about the upcoming gw2gvg website..

The new website is going to focus more on becoming a tool, an archive and a social platform, rather than just the leaderboards it is now.

This means, that the leaderboards will not be the page anymore once you enter the website, but it will be an overview of what has been happening, or going to happen. What I mean by that is that the homepage is going to show the following sections:

- Upcoming matches,
- Latest matches
- Popular matches
- Latest GvG showdown episode (updates realtime)
- Latest videos placed on the website
- Latest comments placed on the website

And all sections will be supplied with the info if the match is official/friendly, has a video or not and if new comments have been placed.

So.. what are the comments I’m talking about? Well basicly what you guys just suggested here, every match will have it’s own comment section, where the match can be discussed. The match page is also going to show all the videos of the match that have been added by their members.

Now, to prevent any trolling from happening, you are going to need a Gw2 GvG account in order to be able to post a comment, this means that in the future you won’t log in as your guild anymore but as ‘you’. On the website you can apply to a guild which has to be approved by a member with the rank to do so.

That the website is going to focus more on being a tool/archive/social platform doesn’t mean the leaderboards are going away. Quite the opposite actually, the leaderboards will come with major improvements that will keep the incentive up for guilds to stay active in the GvG scene and also in different categories (10,15,20,25) without punishing the guilds that do not stay active.

If enough are interested, I could look into setting up a forum hosted on the gw2gvg website, this will however take the attention away from the devs as I don’t expect them to check the website reguraly, or at all.

Also, I will contact everyone that has signed up for the alpha testing tomorrow, so if you want in send me a PM by tomorrow

With GH it is merely a coincidence. I know it may be hard to believe but it is. GH was in progress “crysis” for quite some time. But “Its like they cannot belive what happened” is close enough for how GvG vs VII felt, for me at least..

It’s a shame this Thread got moved by a Community Special Operation dev… (Wait.. wut…) he probably doesn’t know a lot about WvW and moves this Thread, what obviously isn’t a non WvW related thread, to a deserted PvE event section with non interesting events what doesn’t get a lot of people.

GvG’s by other hand are known by a lot of people, and done by a lot of people who likes it or even spectators who doesn personally do GvG’s but likes seeing them.
This thread SHOULDN’T be here, this SHOULD get it’s own spot in the WvW forum area.

But now MartyPartys told about making a seperated forum for this subject, it’s not needed.
Short story, I think Anet should have made a seperated area in the WvW catagory for GvG or something related to that, instead moving this Thread ^^

Not sure Ogre. In PM to you a guy- Recorded as a spectator our clashes with VotF and War. No idea the quality of the angle.

Round 3, 4 and 5 were incredibly tense and so many dead bodies everywhere.

Well deserved victory, the taste of defeat makes me yearn for more We all learn from defeats and tough tests.

Not sure if VotF streamed?? , we didn’t have our streamer stream, I know a few fraps it. But whether or not they have something ready anytime soon I dunno.

Hope VotF has something if the spectator twitch I linked isn’t ideal.

The cheating accusations from the spectators dont reflect [TUP]s opinion. Watched footage multiple times without seeing any gamebreaking “cheating”. Got beaten fair, nothing to add.

If that is the motivation for the move then I agree that it was a good thing but I feel like it was just a sad attempt at decreasing our visibility and smothering our voice.

I have seen no hints at an external GvG arena.

That’s a pretty neat idea. Getting interviews with the raid leader, individuals from the GvG, or the person who recorded the match about key matchups or just in general and making that public would be pretty interesting to watch, or listen to.

I’d be all for seeing something like this.

The 9/3 build has essentially no WvW updates because we’ve been focusing on completing the content that Hugh previewed in the Live stream. That content is very close to coming out, it was not ready for this upcoming build, but it will be shortly thereafter. I’ve refrained from making large content delivery promises because we know that we don’t have those incoming in the next build. There are some very large changes to WvW in bound, but as with everything, see the memes of me, I pretty much only ever say soon or as soon as possible.

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but if you actually believe this is the case your in for a massive letdown.

I don’t think this move was very thought through, either they are trying to smother our voices like Caliban said, or they thought GvG is “off topic” for WvW forums, an opinion I would vehemently contest. Because GvG is but one aspect of WvW, just like another aspect is solo-roaming in WvW.

Would love to see you guys transfer down to a T2 or T3 server for a few weeks. That’d be a lot of fun. I would suggest FA since they have a pretty wide variance in T2/T3 matchups, and they don’t have a very active GvG community relative to a lot of other servers.

SoS and FA would be the best to transfer to since they’re the most lacking in GvG guilds around that area.

Every single person that has talked about transfering is asking for people to go to server they’re facing, not their own. That seems fine to me.

NA is shaping up to having a centralized area for GvG around the t2/t3 area, and those two servers are the only ones lacking guilds at the moment.

We were trying to get TW to go to a server that none of us are on so we could fight them, and they’d have plenty of opportunities for GvG.

I’m curious, now, about the possibility to vie for Obs Sanctum being made the interim GvG arena when the orb buffs enter the game (assuming they do what we suspect they do). Is the area to limited in the monster colosseum or in the starter area? It would seem like the simplest solution to try and request:

1.) Allow for entry to OS from anywhere so long as you side controls a keep in EBG.
2.) Disallow the buffs in OS.

My rough spatial comparison from what I’ve seen as the standard area for a GvG in the south didn’t feel that much larger than the colosseum, though I suppose it is in an inconvenient location that being the middle of a jumping puzzle.

Obviously the easiest solution is just getting a square plot of empty land. Heh.

Or they could just hold the GvGs in that corner by the mountains near speldan on EB, since EB won’t have the border orbs.

I was going under the assumption that the bonus would work similar to how the old orbs did, covering the whole of WvW from BLs to EBG.

Though if it is BL specific, that still leaves the EBG queue as a major hurdle.

Correct me if i’m wrong, as I haven’t ventured over there in quite some time. But isn’t there an a crap load of PvE mobs in that area? Is there actually a decent open space that isn’t A) full of mobs? full of trees?

There’s a rock mesa by Mendon’s that is barren, IIRC. If the Arbor Spirit isn’t up, there is another clearing in the back as well. Otherwise there are bears and Oakhearts.

I think the trees would make for some interesting terrain strat

As for the mobs, spectators took out the pigs pretty regularly …. But yeah there’s also that spot near Mendons too.

@covenn: you guys went to JQ for a week during the T2 fight you had. Would be the same deal …. Head to another tier for a week for the GvGs …. Otherwise I think you’ll be stuck with your limited options and never truly able to prove dominance.

Eternal JP will probably not have buffs in it and has a nice area to the north of the entrance on the ground floor. Doesn’t take queue spots, and spectators get a nice view on the floor above it completely out of the way.

I can’t say what their intent was, but I think this is far more beneficial to us than it is detrimental. I will actually admit that GvG is separate from WvW, or at least it should be. WvW and GvG are only connected because it is the only game mode that currently supports what we’re trying to do, and it is the guilds and players that are making this possible. We’re making these matches and competitions out of something that was never intended to support it, and GvG should eventually be separated from WvW and given its own spotlight.

Besides…

Even if they’re trying to smother us, it’s obvious that they are no longer able to ignore us. Otherwise, they would not have seen necessary to move our entire voice to a different, relatively dead, section of the forums. That’s all that can be gathered from this so far without any comments about their intentions. If nothing else, throwing us into this forum section will allow them to better track the progression of this scene as it continues to grow and flourish, and maybe then they will believe us when we say that this has a lot of potential; maybe even more than other areas of the game they’re trying to focus on.

I’m pretty happy about this move, to be perfectly honest. Maybe we don’t have our own GvG section, but I can’t fault them for that since this is literally player-created and player-driven content.

(Don’t misunderstand that I think they should consider the impact of Orb Buffs returning with the GvG scene existing in WvW, and when I say WvW is separate from GvG, I’m not talking from a mechanical standpoint since all WvW mechanic changes have the potential to affect GvGs at current.)

Where is the GvG showdown thread? It does deserve a thread of its own.

I can’t wait to see it this week, King Vuka totally deserves his own featured spot this week. That fight he took over was amazing. Best comeback I’ve ever seen.

Are there any plans of introducing a leaderboard for GvG’s with 5 or less players per team? It doesn’t seem like a complicated thing to do and I know a lot of people would like it.

Well @EFWinters – the easiest solution would be to have a board for:

10 and under
15-11
20-16
21+

Sometimes in the past with ppl dc’ing or be it late night, I’ve had some 12v12s, 14v14s, 17v17s. End of the day its just about the fight, always waiting for that 15 or 20 can be a pain.

Unless there is going to be alot of interest towards 5 man GvG’s there’s not going to be a leaderboard for them (Only one 5 man GvG has been submitted until now on the website).

Although the leaderboards will not show the 5 man, there will be a friendly mode which will accept all numbers.
