So with the influx of tournaments, and the expanding esports scene. Shawn and I have been approached numerous times by players simply looking for teams. SOAC Gaming has a team that is practicing and putting together it’s final roster for upcoming tournaments. The GW2 reddit guys have a guild for strategy talking and build discussions.

So sittingonacouch.com and reddit.com/gw2esports subreddit is proud to introduce the GW2Esports – Practice Squad [LFG] for NA and EU players.

Practice Squad will be a rank that is designed to help players find teams, learn about comps, and scrim against teams that need practice. You will be playing against actual teams such as AIM, SOAC, ZZZZ, and so on. You will also be playing against each other. This will increase your exposure and give you and your team an idea as to how to work together.

Teams will be put together based on basic composition choices decided by Android aka Shawnbuell and the Academy of the Mists group and based on available practice schedule. Practice Squad members are required to rep the team during their practice times and be present or give prior notice to their team captain. Gw2esports[LFG] is not a guild per say nor is it going to sign you up for tournaments. It is simply a way to funnel players into teams and to get teams someone to regularly practice against. If you don’t currently have a team chances are your next team won’t be ready for the next tournament so until you get a regular team participating in practice squad against other teams and other practice squad members is a great way to potentially find a team and learn how tournaments work.

If a team plays together and really gets along and wants to split off to form their own guild than all we ask is that one member at least remains in Gw2esports and helps us with setting up teams with other players.

I have been added and was able to partake in the first scrims for this effort and all I have to say is thanks to Bas and all the other guys who are putting effort into this. They are really working hard at promoting GW2 tPvP and are also helping to train shoutcasters on our scrims.

We learned a ton and the pros where not only very respectful but also helpful and gave us advice.

Unfortunately, they will be fodder, but after watching SOAC Gaming play horribly in it’s first two matches against AIM, and then after an hour or two really start to get clicking. I realized that players who have done nothing but solo queue for three months have a really tough time getting back into group dynamics.

SOACGaming had a trial by fire, and it was rough for a few games. One of the big advantages to this is you can actively recruit your own team. Teams that are looking for players can go through the list here and pick a player if they have seen him, and now have a way to scan the list for a player they want to pm.

Plus once a player joins a new team he can simply edit his post and say Currently on [Insert Team Name]

A great way to get experience fighting is to get punched in the face repeatedly until you figure out how to block.

Obviously random groups thrown together wouldn’t have a competitive chance against actual real teams, but getting a group together should be a good opportunity for people. Plus it will give you a guild-full of teams that you can scrim against that aren’t going to totally kick your butt :P

We had a few good scrims, and some really bad scrims. We learned a lot in the first matches. On the positive end, they learned that there are certain playstyles that don’t work in tournaments, and others that will work. In the future we will try to have teams coached during scrims, and put in 5-10 games on team queueing before a scrim.

There are a fair number of people engaged in AotM that would likely have interest. I will talk it up and try to get some kind of collaboration going. I am setting up a TS3 server for the Academy as well so we’ll have even more TS3 space to coordinate things. Also, I bought the domain gw2mists.com. I am designing some key features that we could use as tpvpers for grouping/tournies. If you have anything that you’d particularly want, let me know. First inititiave is creating a simple public chat system for people to talk in as opposed to going to threads 24/7 and whispering.
