Anet Crashes The Mini Market Again
Or just dont allow them to be mystic forgeable. I hate how my mini collection halved in value because of this and other incidents.
Do you collect mini’s to have the collection or as an investment to resell later? I do not collect minis that are not account bound because I know I will resell them when they spike sharply. Sold both Logan and Eir when they spiked close to 50g a piece. I want those mini’s but I want 50g more.
The only thing I know from this thread is that the OP doesn’t understand how %’s work.
It could be that the devs want mini’s to stay at a certain value so they allow these “accidents” to happen to keep supply coming in.

.
You mean they aren’t giving out free minis?
so you say you’re collector but you worry about the value drop by 100%.
a true collector don’t care about price. they just collect.
if you’re holding a mini with a view to resell later, then you’re not a collector.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
A 100% price drop means it is now free. Awesome.
I’m not sure if the exotic mini actually boost mini pack sells that much. That is undisclosed information. Anet probably intended to do it to sell black lion keys.
And if you really are a collector rather than investor you just collect and dont’ care about the price(like someone said alreadY).
Exos down to 40% of their original average price in one week. Wonder how far they’ll drop.
Edit: This is the change of price for the Mini Oakheart, haven’t looked into the others.

I don’t collect minis, but if I did, now would be the time for me to go out and get any minis missing from my collection.
I’m not really a mini collector myself. But the last crash I bought my set(up to rare).
The crash probably help some new people getting in the collection.

A true collector cares about rarity, too. Its no fun to collect stuff which doesnt take any effort.
I don’t really see the comparison to the last time. those knights were selling for like 1s each. You could forge thousands of them without a problem.
Scarlet and Caithe are >5g each. at 20g a forge you are averaging 100g per exotic. You’ll almost always come out with a loss. If people are selling minis for less it is because they are desperately trying to recoup some of the money they lost trying this.

Before the Caithes and Scarlets most of the exotic minis were valued at around 200g.
Talk about being arrogant over wealth

If you look at the 1y (all data) view on gw2spidy, you can see that the increase last month was an anomaly. Most of the history has the prices around where they are now. They spiked up on the announcement that set 1 minis wouldn’t be sold anymore; though I think that shouldn’t have affected exotics (you’re always getting them by combining, and the set 1 versions are still in the MF drop tables) AFAICT it did.
Decreasing prices is actually good for the average player, even if it’s not good for you — more people can have the item in question. I can understand being unhappy if you bought when prices were high, but here your loss is someone else’s gain. Sorry.
It was an anomaly but the fact that the rare from blc are forgable has to be a mistake. Blue and Green minis are still on the prices they were at before this started occuring.
ya but do the exotic mini have to be that expensive? Most of it just get bought out by investor anyway.
They did it with the Mini Holographic Risen Knights’ release and now it’s the same thing again with Mini Caithe and Scarlets. Mini prices have fallen by 100% in some cases.
It’s almost like Anet devs don’t know that throwing minis into the Mystic Forge is a thing that players do.
I love Minis and have had all of them for nearly a year, but I’m done with holding onto an item that Anet continually causes to crash in value by introducing more “Rare” minis that are easily attainable and no one wants (i.e. Mystic Forge Fodder). I’ll just wait for the prices to artificially inflate again and sell off.
To make this somewhat constructive: 1. Design Minis that People actually want as rewards. 2. Stop introducing absurdly common minis as “Rares.” 3. Listen to Players’ persistent requests for improved Mini functionality. Something as a simple as a tab that allows you to auto-deploy a mini instead of having to go into your bags and click it every time you’re Downed or change maps/instances.

This update was intended because of the announcement that pack 1 was going away there was a lot of demand on the exotics not just from legit owners but also merchants, this was a way for them to give to the community and say to the merchants, you aint going to make people pay 300g for a exotic when they shouldn’t have too.
Also prices are about what they were before the crazy “hype” happened which should be irrelevant because you can STILL FORGE the set 1 exotics… nothing truly changed, the hype was over nothing but it happened because enough people was worried about it in the first place.

Completely wrong, bid prices have been around 4 to 4.5g for many days now which is 16g a forge so you end up spending 80g for 5 tries and most of the time you’ll get a set 1 rare which resells back for 8g after taxes. You lose more like 40-50g per exotic (IF YOU AVERAGE 1 PER 5) but getting the Moa or Twisted wouldn’t help you and getting a dry streak of 30 would probably hurt too much.
I actually got a good 80 of these mini’s in one night for 3.6g each and make about 600g with average results but that was like a week ago when most exotics were 140-160g and I also got lucky and never got a Moa or Twisted exotic.

Still braver than I would have been lol! Wow 80 in the forge I would have cried after I lost all my money.

Prices are fundamentally driven by supply and demand. The supply of Set 1 Minis is now limited as the primary means to acquire one is gone. True you can try to forge one but that requires four minis to be tossed in for every one, which may not be a Set 1, to pop out. There is no way that forging is going to provide anything close to the supply from buying a Set 1 and selling off the extras. So supply has become scarcer and as long as real demand remains greater then the price will likely rise. It’s not hype, it’s Eco 101.

You are missing the bigger picture, 99% of the mini’s come into the game from mini packs, 2 out of 3 times it’s a green + 2 blues, and 1 out of 3 chance it’s a rare. From my knowledge it’s not possible to get exotics from mini packs, and if it is, it must be really low chance that it’s irrelevant. Look at how many exotics are on TP… that’s from FORGING, just because pack 1 is gone doesn’t change anything, it just means there will be less set 1 rares and greens entering the game, exotics however always come from forging, and because of this it doesn’t mean a thing that set 1 is removed, they will STILL be forged from set 2 mini’s.
Edit: Also to note, set one has far more Rares and Exotics, probably to even demand out because chances are when forging you will get a set 1 rare or exotic over set 2, making them far more common when forging. Pretty sure that was intended.

and i got 0 exo from 30 trys. dat rng…
Obviously the droprate on these two minis is not representative of rare quality, they drop almost more often than holo risen lol. I guess it was anets way of assuring that exotic price will never go above 120+. The exotics of set 2 are around 50 gold, now that’s a new low for an exotic mini that even counts for the sets.
I paid 252 gold for the exotic clockwork nightmare I hate how Anet ruins the prices
Malediktus: Did you buy it to have in a collection or to resell?
For collection, but I still greatly care about the value of my minis. If they are worth little they loose a lot of prestige when using them. 250g or 50g is an insane difference and the price of this particular mini was more or less stable for weeks until Anet did this: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/44727
50g is basically worthless to me, so I will have to show off some of my other minis again.
(edited by Malediktus.9250)
I actually wonder how low they will go as the rares from BLC are dropping in price, as well.
Where is this influx coming from exactly? More people buying bl keys for a chance at the new shiny weapons? Or did they actually buff the drop rate or make them obtainable elsewhere?
Endless Petrification Tonic
Is this going to STOP soon? My goodness, mess it up more! Can we please make mini’s similar to gw1 (ded v unded), so we dont have so man mini’s on market.
They probably upped the black lion key droprate. This month I had more black lion keys dropped than in my 3000+ hours playtime before.
But this market manipulation is totally unacceptable in my eyes. The game is about cosmetic instead of vertical progression, yet anet ruins the prestige/value of pure luxury/collectors items.
I had no black lion key dropped since months. Not this month, not the previous one, and, as far as i can tell, no one from my guild. You probably just had luck this month Malediktus.
I believe I had 5 or 6 dropping this month and 2 of them had a miniature.
I haven’t seen a Black Lion Key drop in months either. I think you’ve just been incredibly lucky, Malediktus.
So if you spend a lot of time and gold into collecting them it is indeed very frustating to see those hard work loosing its value even if you dont bought them for speculation.
I hope that those promised improvments to miniatures will change it, but right now I’m pretty disapointed…
pride goes before a fall of mini prices.
Take a look at the supply of mini Caithes and Scarlets: as of Nov 05, there are over 500 listed supply of each respectively. No other rare categorized mini even comes close to matching the supply of these two. IMO, the simple fix for this problem is to either: (1) change the rarity of these minis into masterwork like the holographic risen knights. or (2) decrease the drop rates.

This has gone for very long now. I take it there has been no reply at all?
I stopped buying them. There’s no telling if the next BL chest will simply have 2 new minis, further crashing the market. We can be sure though that it is intended. I’m simply wondering at this point how far they’re planning to let this rabbit hole go.
