These are a few items i have been watching extremely closely lately since the changes to drop rates, and as it happens, ectos and rares are getting more expensive? Plus i can cash in a + 20 gold profit on each stack of dyes i bought right after the dye drop nerfs, but the thing is, the price is still rising, and i do not see it stopping. The demand for dyes way overshadows the supply causing the price to increase from buy: 9s 30c to 10s 30c, and sell 10s 30c to 12s. I know i am making money off of this but i still fear for the economy and the difficulty of getting dyes and rare materials ect on top of the chore of getting gear, doing dungeons that i do not really want to do a hundred times, and all of that. Shouldn’t the armor color be a little easier to come by?

This is a trend that everyone is going to begin to see with Nnet. And I call them Nnet for Nerf Net. Everything they have done since the game came out is nerf.

The increase in loot did not take right. Vets and champs still drop nothint but blues and sometimes nothing at all. Never an exotic.

Salvage rates in ectos with mystic kits are horrendous. I get 1 or none every time I attempt it. I never end up with more ecto then rares started with. It used to be 2-3 every salvage!

Dye drop rates. O M G. 1 dye a day if youre lucky.

Its bad man, really bad. They have created somewhat of a depression as far as loot goes and its driving costs up across the board. While at the same time pushing people away and making others quit. Which in turn reduces farming and therefore supply.

Hey Nnet. Time to buff something for once.

You can buy Dye at the gem store, so it is a source of ioncome for Anet. What did you think would happen, they would give MORE of them for free?

So prices doubled and some even tripled. You can bet Anet is making more money on gem dyes now than before.

That being said, I don’t really mind this market-manipulation from Anet. Dyes are a pure cosmetic thing, they can 10-fold the price for all I care.

I have gotten Charrzooka from the vet wolf in EB bl. And 5 or 6 other exotics from vets or mobs. Steady rares. And dye drops frequently.

Get MF gear or something.

Been watching ecto prices too the past few weeks since making exotic set for one of 4 80’s and not having much luck with rare drops. Have rare MF set on that char though tbh, l got 4 rares yesterday using no MF while friend in full MF with food got none. Hadn’t any for over a week though and two or three 75+ raresl salv’d the previous day yielded no ectos.
When l made exotic set they were approx 15-20s ea, can’t remember exactly. When l went to buy more to make jewellery and another exotic set price had jumped to 29s and under 20 for sale on broker. Since then l’ve been watching prices go up everyday and today, now 1000 on broker. It seems someone may have been buying all on broker and is now pushing prices up since l believe ascended/legendary gear requires large quantities of ectos?

The prices are rising because most of the bots are gone now, so the items are not being stacked in heaps on the TP for a low price. Give it some time and the price will stabilize again.

That is partially correct, there has still been a massive nerf on ectos, dyes and rares, which is attributing to the prices going upwards. The way I see it, its Anet being able to manipulate the market by messing about with the drop rate RNG. They increased the drop rate on dyes then said oops that was a mistake, then dropped the drop rate on dyes even more so than before the increase. I’m a firm believer this was done deliberately hoping players wouldn’t notice so much.

When these sort of items have a direct and indirect influence on players buying gems then its in the best interest for Anet to interfere in the market by nerfing drop rates. I have played a lot of MMO’s like most people here, and I doubt not one of you can honestly say that drop rates have changed so much over the a short space of time that it has in GW2.

I was farming frost trolls near the claw spawn and killed the champion troll many times. I got a named exotic harpoon gun off of it on about its 7th kill. I also got a rare and never less than a blue.

I don’t believe in drop-rate nerfs. Unless the patch notes specifically state so, nothing changes. There is logic and reason behind every price shift…

Dyes
Supply:
-Less bots and overall-players leveling characters. Personally, about 80-90% of the unid dyes I was acquiring was while leveling from 1-80 doing quests in zones. While leveling my 2 80s, I ended with about 60-70 unid dyes per character when I was done leveling (Averaging maybe 1 an hour, and I don’t know of people getting significantly higher rates than that).
-As far as I know, you can’t really farm dyes. It’s hard to maintain a supply on a high demand item if players can’t farm it.
-There was that incident where they unintentionally raised the drop rate of unid dyes. Which caused a temporary surge in supply, dropping the price. This created a bit of a bubble, which popped the moment they announced the accident/fix and people rushed to buy the cheap dyes before they weren’t cheap anymore. A lot of people think they reduced the rate to lower-than-before, I don’t think that’s true.
Demand:
-There are ~400 different colors to unlock.
-Colors are only unlocked on the character that used it.
-Some people are completionists (Apparently, a lot of people who play this game are) and are unlocking every single color on their character.
-You can mystic forge dyes. I could make a whole other list on why this affects an items demand (And supply).

Ectos
Supply:
-As far as I know. The only thing that would have recently affected the supply of ectos, was the karka uber-loot chest. Causing a short burst of increased supply, shortly followed by….
Demand:
-The discovery that ascended items need another truck-load of ectos. That’s really it. The sheer amount of ectos a player needs to forge the items caused enough players to “buy now before it’s too late”, driving the price up steadily since. It’ll normalize once more people get their ascended items, then raise again once more ectos are needed for new ascended items when they’re released.

Chocolate
Supply:
-They made chocolate harder to obtain a while back, so really, chocolate was prepared for a price hike. It just took the anticipation (And a few forum posts here and there) of the holiday season to cause people to speculate enough drive the price up.
Demand:
-Upcoming Holiday season + Trader speculation to the extreme.
-It’s chocolate. Everyone loves chocolate!

i have alot of MF on my warrior and it seems to me i have just as much luck when not wearing it to getting a rare then when i do wear it. the MF makes it so tons of blues drop but even then its still random with rares i have yet to get a exoitc off of a mob. anyways i think MF is a broken system sure i could sell all the blues i get and salavge the 2 rares in a 4hr grind but getting a ecto off the rares is well rare and usually its better to sell the rare and buy 1 ecto then cross your fingers an hope for more then 1 cause 40%of the time its none. then 4hrs is lost anyways yea i think the system on loot is bs they need to make it so more mf you get sure you get blues but have a better chance for rares and exotics.

Hey Nnet. Time to buff something for once.

I cosign this. My biggest problem with this game (is not ascended gear, is not vertical progression, is not that it is not GW1) is Loot tables…The loot tables in this game have just always been very wonky and RnG dependent.

The problem is with rares and exotics is they have tied these to Ecto so if they increase the drop rate the value of said Ecto will fall making legendary and high end exotics easier to get. In turn, it will drive the price down of everything and devalue what’s already there.

So my analysis is they are great at balancing the economy but the itemization of their zones is awful.

Great post. This is pretty much why they can’t increase the drop rates of exotics and rares though. Or add them to all champions as people are suggesting. Champs aren’t that hard to kill and there are a lot of them. If they were guaranteed to drop a rare or exotic or even had a 50% chance the market would tank and inflation would abound.

It does make the game a bit boring though when RnG isnt happening for you.

Agree with comment about Supply and Demand since massive amounts of ectos needed for ascended gear.
Price has got up 4s in 24hrs. Continuing to escalate at a rapid rate.
Just salv’d around 6 rares and 2 exotics +74 range. 5 ecto…..whereas previously the salvage rate seemed much better.
Seems like l’m stuck with a dungeon grind for exotic armor unless l want to buy stacks of gems. Then, is it even worth it. Will they continue to ramp up gear stats as I’ve seen in other Mmo’s?
I was so looking forward to coming back to GW to escape the RNG, the dependance on gear and spending a fortune in store. Seems all MMO’s are following the same business model now.
Recently spoken to a few friends who’ve already spent hundreds of dollars since release, play near 24/7. Then see people with the lovely glowy legendaries and wonder just how. I’ve known players in other Mmo’s who think nothing of spending hundreds a week. It’s scary that developers want to profit in this way. I thought more of Anet…….

As for drops from Veterans and Champions, see patch notes Nov15th. Assured drops from veterans and champions…and not porous bones, or…oftentimes, nothing at all.
In fact, a waste of time. Killed champion frost troll too numerous times a few days back, nothing. Killed a regular troll, rare. Seem to have more chance of getting the odd rare from regular mobs. All a big grind regardless.

I wouldn’t call a linear inevitability a “shift”.

PS. About champs: killed dozens in the last days, different zones, land/aquatic; got one rare, no exotic. However, I can confirm players in wvw do drop better now, got one exotic and a couple of expensive cores (just to be clear, that’s out of say a thousand kills).
