Impending Significant Dye Changes
Even if it’s just that the “special edition” dyes are account bound I’d be over the moon happy about that…..or that accessories can be colored without the use of a hairstyle kit…
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Vol for this thread. My Unidentified Dyes have been sitting on the TP at 35s for a while now, and yesterday they all sold!
If this is true, this could potentially kills 2 birds with one stone. Crafting would help get rid of the massive surplus of some chef items to encourage people to craft them or this would encourage people to buy through gem store.
Monday’s Blog seems very likely to talk about dye changes. I’m not buying/selling much beyond my normal patterns until I see what the changes are.
Though I might spend time this weekend getting a list of what dyes I have at least one of unlocked on each alt and maybe fill in the cheap ones I’m missing entirely.
What about current dye’s? Will they repay all the dye’s we payed for in past? Cause if only account bound or gem shop that means all current character related dye progress is removed.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I’m very small-young-cat sure they won’t remove learned dyes. Also they will blog us info on Monday, which is before any likely patch changes, so once we have the information we can act accordingly vis a vis our dye collections.
No need to panic based on what ifs and maybes.
This is the Internet. We’ve been trained to panic on rumor and rage on fact.
RIP City of Heroes
What I don’t want to see is the following:
I don’t want purchasing gems to be the only method of identifying dyes.
And I sure as hell do not want to see the crafting of an identifier having the same requirements as ascended gear.
Sadly I suspect that is exactly what we’ll get. 100gem identifiers in the gem store, and crafting that requires 500 in jeweling and 250 of some given T6 material just to wind up with account bound Olive Yew dye.

Jesus christ I didn’t even take a look at unid dyes since then – I always assumed they were around 33s.
But they’re 40s now!
da kiiiiiitten
Yeah .. had not sold the dyes i had found in the last weeks when the price went down, and yesterday i sold them again at 37+ and the last also even at 40+
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Blog moved forward to tomorrow. Let the speculation continue…
Indeed.
It was changed on Friday though, so not something that they decided to change today ^^

Aaaawww and I was so excited for that blogpost
(Still can’t decide if it wouldn’t be better just to sell my dyes right now ^^°)

Silver in the hand is worth gold in the bush.
Heh, they probably pushed the blog back because they needed more time to prepare for the kittenstorm they are going to get over the changes.
one dye per piece… just like the old days
New blog post:

-unid dyes will no longer be available as drops, but from rewards and the forge
I’m not in game but I’m sure unid dyes are gonna spike HARD
As of this post dyes rose 20s

I regret not investing in them.
Welp, a stack of dyes yesterday cost about 90g.
Today that’s worth +250g
GG ;[
Well, I know what I’m going to be doing this evening… now where did I put that sickle?
Guess I should have invested more heavily in dyes…
Hmm… I do have about 70 unused Laurels…

No worries!
I moved those dyes at what was peak price, they could have just as easily collapsed depending on what ArenaNet decided to do with them.

I know, right?
Why can’t ArenaNet cater to my schedule with these announcements?

But man are unidentified dyes going to crash kitten patch day. I’ll be getting over 700 of them myself lol.
why in the world is h a r….d censored?

I read the blog in traffic during my commute and thought real hard about turning around.
The one good thing about still being a student.
Aaaand they are already starting to drop again as people unload their stock.
Wait… can one of you economy savvy people explain to me what is going on with the dyes right now?
1. There are going to be new ways to get dyes come patch day, and we have no idea at what frequency or cost this will be, but presumably in such a way that is not horribly painful to get dyes.
2. Anyone who has unlocked a really good dye across multiple characters is going to get that dye back on patch day, resulting in a flood of the best dyes coming back on the market (see abyss dye). And a massive flood of common dyes.
So my question is, why the freakout and mass purchase of dyes? It seems like the reasonable person would just wait till right after the patch and get dyes then, while everyone is unloading their duplicates. It seems like a lot of stock is being put into the new way to aquire dyes being insufficient to meet personal need.
The dyes are crazy right now. I am guessing that people are getting them to turn them into unidentified dyes on other characters after the patch? No idea but seems risky to pay the prices some of these are up to.

There are many things that go through the mind of a speculator.
Right now, we are certain that the supply of dyes will go down in the long run. That’s a good thing as scarcity can push the price up. Of course, there will be issues in terms of people converting laurels, crafting/forging dyes, as well as the duplication system outlined in the blogpost.
So speculators are banking on this scarcity to be a factor in the future.
As for the demand for unid dyes, Anet doesn’t think there will be increased demand. We don’t know yet, and that is up for speculation on what the demand will be like and whether it can work with or against the supply side.
A lot of times, people don’t understand the news but just react to it. They glance at a word or phrase and immediately buy or sell, since it can takes seconds for price movements to fluctuate rapidly.
I only wish I was there an hour ago to take advantage of other speculators.

People are scared right now by the idea of unid. dyes no longer dropping and only available from the MF or crafting. This will lower the supply to match the lower demand but some people think that unid. dyes will almost disappear all together and people are trying to make a mad grab for them now either to unlock as many colors as they can or to invest in dyes as they think prices will rise higher than they are now after the patch.

ikr, what if anet decides to make the unidentified dyes derived from your duplicate dyes account bound, similar to how they currently do with pvp unidentified dyes.

If you already have Abyss dye unlocked on 2 toons, you will not receive another Abyss dye, you will receive 1 unidentified dye.
This is going to crash the special event dye market ….
This is going to crash the special event dye market ….
It depends on how many people want stuff exclusively for their main character. I for one am really into my alts and don’t really have a main, so I never bothered with expensive dyes for just one of them, because what would be the point? Since I only have to unlock them once from now on though, it might just be worth it.

Yeah I missed this. Since the returned dye would be a random unid dye, I can understand why the expensive dyes would be more expensive now in the frenzy. But I still don’t think that justifies people going crazy on regular unidentified dyes.
I mean wouldn’t this mean if I buy some cheap dye, and have it on 5 characters, I would get 4 unidentfied dyes to replace it? It seems like there would be a massive flood of unid. dyes on patch day as a result of this. I guess this would also explain the buying up of the low end dyes.
Either way, I would think this news would have caused people to sell not buy.
lol a good day to randomly take off of work

This. Unid dyes would be rarer after the patch and after initial stabilizing.
prices for chef mats to craft dye are going up. says " hue-specific dyes can still be crafted" I see blueberries have more than tripled in price. And walnut has went crazy from 7c to 1.60s

Right they will be rarer but who knows if they will actually be worth a lot more than they are now since
1) Dyes will be account bound greatly lowering the demand
2) There are other avenues for getting dyes
I myself am still unsure of the future and am just watching for now to see where things stand by the end of the day and into tomorrow.

Unless they introduced new avenues for getting unid dyes, the old avenues are not that great plus they don’t drop from loot anymore. Yes the demand would drop since it is account bound but so will the supply.
Also if skins are unlocked account-wide, wouldn’t those assault knight power core drop in value? Since you only need it on one character. All skins should be dropping in value.

Since unidentified dyes will still be available as rewards and to sell do we think they will change the gift of color recipe or will it become incredibly expensive?
