Price of gems
The gem exchange doesnt cater towards people exchanging gold for gems but the other way around.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
The dirty little secret about the gem store is that Anet wants your real money. They can’t put real food on their real tables with your imaginary gold.

Yeah, I remember when it was 3g – 100 gems. Those were some good days.
By the time the gold → gem cost becomes truly unmanageable I suspect GW2 will have gone completely f2p, and the playerbase will have changed drastically.
100 gems for 30s during the first few days after the release.
Its a demand system if gold is in demand then gems prices drop if gems are in demand then gold prices drop. Over all its a good system that can keep it self in balanced. If it was any easier to buy gems with gold or get gold with gems you could run into ppl playing a money game where they make money off of buying and selling gems causing massive inflation.
So when the game first came out gold was in high demand so it was very cheep to buy gems with gold now as time went on gold is a great deal more easy to get or there is just simply a lot more in the system so now gems are worth more.

This system has a number of potential problems. I’d rather have no gem→gold conversion only and simply offer some items as gem only (select armours and all of the minis and other purely cosmetic items) while others could be bought for gold or gems. That’d doubly serve as a gold sink and ensure that basic necessities are available to all players.
Anet should maybe lower price on gems,so you get 10$ =1000gems.
It will put more gems out there at least and help fighting against the inflation…

That right there is the solution. We need to make gold harder to farm, harder to gain. We need more gold sinks.

The the thing the gem system is the best gold sink in the game its the only one you need. In a way we need more in game items or more things in game to buy with gold to bring up the demand for gold.
So yes a type of gold sink but on the lines of use gold for something else say npc food or other consumables much like what we saw during LA invasion where you could buy 1hr 30 min “food things” (cant think of the names) for a high cost but its worth it if you got more then one person to go in on it with you. So paying for an event to pop also dose this too much like we have now in the feasible.

The Gold to Gem conversion is not the only gold sink we need. If that were the case then we wouldn’t have any problems now. However the gold sinks are a must. I would say new weapons, new armor, maybe consumables like you suggest, anything new that people would throw in-game gold at.
However not everything has been hit by inflation either, which means not enough gold has been dropping out of the market. Cultural armor, commander tags, crafting mats from vendors, … they’ve all stayed exactly the same since game launch. In a true market they wouldn’t have been immune to inflation.
The current exchange ratio is 10 gold 21 silver for 100 gems.
Buying anything for 800 gems equals a little less then 100 gold as it stands.
The price just keeps rising, and I don’t think I can afford such items anymore. So I’m wondering if Anet should make so that the prices are somehow fixed.
I mean how long before you’ll have to give 20 gold for 100 gems? It’s really concerning.
And yet you do not comment on how all items have been going up. So in reality you are getting more for the rare than you used to get for the rare. This is just normal inflation if you want the ratio to lower in price, have more of your friends spend $ on gems to convert them to gold. That will lower the price of Gold – > gems.

Back then get 3g was harder (imo) to get than 10g is now.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

Over all the inflation free items are very low demand they are more on the lines of things you pay for once you hit a level much like the old system worked.
A gem system like in GW2 that you cant play means ever gold put into gems is cut by 1/2 at least most ppl do not buy gems with gold then use though gems to get gold so it becomes a 100% cut. As long as they add things in the gem store ppl will keep burning gold for gems to get these items and it tends to be 40+ gold per item. Over all that a major gold sink in the game it maybe more effect then selling tax from the tp.

I remember my first gold invested in gems… 1g – 364 gems… THOSE were the good old days.

I remember spending 20$ to get 5 gold. I was living the good life.
Yes, I agree the Gem shop is a good gold sink. However its primarily the ONLY gold sink and that is the problem. There are people that aren’t hardcore farmers that can’t afford items in the Gem shop with gold, so they use their credit instead. That’s not taking gold out of the game, is it?
If they released some options to buy new armor/weapons in game, with gold, I think it would help.

Nope. For the average player, maybe. But GW2LFG was goin’ strong. CoF P1 farming, along with some of the other paths was pretty profitable for players willing to put in a little extra effort. I was actually able to buy gems with gold more often than I can now. Typically bought lots more at a time too. Most of what I achieved during my year in this game was through dungeon running.
Makes me a little sad for new players who want to earn everything in-game. That approach is much less feasible now.

The issue is that some players have hundreds/thousands of gold. Any proper gold sink would be out of reach to most players, and any proper gold sink would either be desirable or important which makes the being out of reach all the worse for most players.
Inflation, demand, yadadada
Demand for gems goes up => Price goes up,
More gold in the game => People have more gold to spend (on gems , Demand gain here) => Price goes up.
Basic economics.
Inflation, demand, yadadada
But it would help the market so much putting a cap on the price of items. /sarcasm.
As usual, the problem is the god-kittened economy. Too much of the game is built around it. Always bugs me how whenever someone has an idea, we have to put it past the ‘B-but think of the economy!’ test.
The gem conversion isn’t supposed to favor people who are converting gold to gems. Otherwise, who in their right mind would ever buy gems with money?
You just have to grit your teeth and pay up if you want something off the gem store. Gem store isn’t there for value. It’s there for stuff you can’t get elsewhere in the game.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye
I have a similar problem. After sitting at the local coffee shop sipping ice water and making use of their free wi-fi for half an hour, they tell me I have to buy something or leave! Why should I have to pay money just to use their services, I bought a coffee there once a couple years ago. Isn’t that enough?

Maybe next time, you should tell that how much loyal you were and how for years you supported them. Or better yet, call the better business bureau and report this travesty, how dare them attempt to make a customer pay real money. If that doesn;t just make a ridiculous post on the forum asking why a company would favor real money over an imaginary one.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Don’t worry mate, the next coffee is on me!
I doubt the price per 100 gems will stay at 10g for long… it’s probably all of the reintroduced minipet packs, the new gemstore items, and changes to the BLC’s that spiked it up this hard.
If it ever reaches 20g for 100 gems it’ll be because we have that much gold to spare/gold keeps getting easier to find.

It might rich 10g during the ls2 but briefly.

Also supply right? (yadayada part maybe?)
It’s possible that fewer gems are entering the system in gem-to-gold conversion.
I think Anet doesn’t understand that making the cost of gems in gold higher won’t translate into more gems being bought with real money. People will just pass because the real money cost of gems is a total rip off.

Please don’t mistake “easier to find” and "more people farming for it. The gold gained from the TP is not new gold. The only new gold that enters the game is from dungeons and bosses. So unless people have been farming those more, it hasn’t become “easier to find”. Anet is probably artificially manipulating the cost of gems.
