Evon, being the great and wise charr that he is, is offering 40% off Gem Store items that you gift to friends.

“From now through December 31, players who send a gift to a friend can purchase that same item in any quantity for themselves at 40% off! Let the sharing begin! All discounts must be claimed by 11:59 p.m. PST on December 31.”

Let’s all show our support to Evon by gifting Black Lion keys to friends, then buying boat loads for his new, updated chests! And remember, if you buy 4,000 Gems from the store, he’s giving you a Mini Mr. Sparkles as a bonus (in January)! December is a great month for us!

The way you beat RNG is to throw more attempts at it. 1,000 BL keys should do the trick.

The news announcement directly contradicts the patch notes:

“My promotions manager would like me to clarify that this is a one-for-one basis. If you send the same gift to three friends at once, your next three personal purchases of that item will be discounted by 40%.”

I’m not sure what Anet’s definition of ‘any quantity’ is, but it seems to be different from mine. Very confusing.

I have no interest in black lion keys, but I was planning on gifting a mini pack and then getting two for myself so I could make the yak as well. I was iffy on it but with the discount would have gotten it. Oh well.

Another player’s personal experience is that he gifted one copy to a friend, then bought multiple copies of the same item for himself, but only one of the additional copies got the discount. That suggests that the news announcement is the correct version; quite disappointing, personally, but I urge ANet to edit their patch notes so as not to imply misleading information which could affect player’s purchases.

But as far as encouraging people to buy more BLKeys, please do! Gems → gold fell short of the 100 gems for 10g threshold last time, and I’d like for it to push past that so I can sell some gems.

I gifted 1 key, then bought 25 At the discount, and then had to gift one more key to get the discount again. Wasn’t all that bad. Lol

Gooooood…. gooooooood. So the 1 for 1 doesn’t mean just a single gift for a single gift. It means one transaction for one transaction. So if I’m to buy 1,000 BL keys, I need to gift 40 keys to friends.

He’s also generously implementing sales tax on gem purchases (for those virtual items you don’t need). I don’t know about you. but I’m nominating him for Hero of the Year.

Sales tax is due to the government, not Evon. If anything, you can blame Kiel, as this tax happened after she was elected to the Captain’s Council.
