Wow! Judging from this thread, all CDI threads, except Ranger, will be ghost towns, and all but forgotten.

I hope whoever presides over the Ranger CDI thread is ready for the deluge. Think I will steer clear…sounds like a bloodbath coming. Lol.

On the bright side, I might actually partake in the non-Ranger-CDI, since they’d hopefully not be growing at an exponential rate i.e. my feedback won’t disappear in an endless ocean of comments i.e. I might feel like I actually have a voice.

150-200 words…..Darn,..no more walls of text….
…..Actually, I’m totally okay with that!

Me to. I believe it will lead to higher value discussions, problem solving and ideation.

Chris

And here am I thinking that explaining why, and how, is important, even more important then the statement itself because it describes the context what is very important. Silly me.

Looking at that it might explain the bad moderation on this forum where the moderators also never seem to be checking the context of what is being said.

No, I think giving a good explanation with some examples is much better then just making a short statement. I rather see a good wall of text then a statement that can be interpreted in many different ways.

But like I said, silly me why would the facts, logics and idea behind a statement be important.

Its a little sad you see brevity and providing context/support as mutually incompatible.

Perhaps the Ranger discussion could be staggered?

Phase one would be a discussion of strengths and weaknesses, phase two would be a discussion of ways to address those weaknesses. I don’t see a reason the phasing couldn’t happen within one thread either. It would just require us to stagger our input.

Keep in mind that the 200 word limit is aimed at discussion posts, not at proposal formulations. Which does make me ask the following question:

Should quotes be included in those 200 words?

Oh and thanks for clarifying your responses ilr and psientist!

I don’t see how they could be. The quotes themselves will take up 200 words if not trimmed carefully.

I would suspect people are not posting here as they have nothing to add, but will post in larger numbers once the CDI’s are up. (I know for a fact the Fractals one is likely to be popular).

Question, Did we decide on how opinions/objections on other peoples suggestions/proposals will be handled Or is it staying as just quoting them with your concerns? (in under 200 words). Not in a destructive manner but in a different groups have different views on the same topic.

This are not the people with that you can talk constructively a slightest bit over anything.
What alot of people must understand here in the first place is, that Anet surely wouldn’t make a whole CDI about the Ranger Class, after we the community have chosen this class out to be discussed, if they wouldn’t plan to use the CDI also not too to make some bigger changes on the chosen Class, if that should end up later to be part of the Ranger Proposal to make the class alot better balanced, more fun to play and functionate simply better in regard of its clumsy class mechanic that are their pets.

Because the real only one, who decides over it, what is OP, what is insane and what is really ridiculous or just impossible out of whichever reasons is – ANET
Nobody else.

So if people don’t begin to overcome their biases and to stop with their mentality of the “nothing may touch my beloved things – or I quit” way of bribe thinking, the class CDI will quickly fail.

This kind of CDI will be only successful, if all participants are objective and contructive to whatever for suggestions will be made for the Ranger, otherways the CDI just has only the potential to turn out into a flame wars

Then they should have provided some guides lines on what is and isn’t considered balanced along with examples an counter examples. Otherwise it is probably going to be what you described. The other problem is that while it would be easy to talk about balance in terms of sPvP context that is not the case for PvE and to a lesser degree WvW. For sPvP you only need to the balance team. For PvE you need all the content designers on board because there is a lot of it that feels like the designer was oblivious to some of the game’s mechanics.

okay in real i think only ranked pvp players and experienced wvw commanders should have the right to discuss about balqnce suggestions instead of players who have less knowledge about balance.

I’m totally agaist this. I’ve played over 1500h on my ranger, thus I would call me relatively experienced. However I’ve played not a singel PvP match so far and I’ve never took the lead in WvW. So I can only say by rumors that the ranger is good in PvP and useless in WvW. However I can say that in PvE the ranger performs underwhelming but not completely useless.
And according to your proposal I should not be heard because I’m not matching your beliefs of an experienced player?

What would we like the summaries to look like?

I would think that using the Proposal Overview from the suggested format should be quite helpful. In the best case, these overviews should be directly copyable into the summary. And who to better give a short description of an idea than its author?

Suggested Proposal Format:

Proposal Overview
<A short description of the proposal that is being put forward>

That being said, I’d imagine a summary to be hierarchically ordered by topic (like most of the referenced summaries are — I guess one level of sub-topics is often enough). Then a bullet list containing the overviews, linked to the original proposals. As already mentioned, listing the author together with the overview is helpful for naming ideas. (Or, if someone says he likes Alice’s idea, I know where to look for what Alice has written.)

Another thing that might be interesting would be to mention if something was set completely off the table by one of the developers. So, if a developer says “this is not possible” or “this will never happen,” I think this is also valuable information that deserves to be mentioned in a “summary.”

All in all, I guess it is best to let the summarizers choose the style they feel comfortable with. Perhaps the words above can provide some kind of inspiration. As the process is probably starting today, I’d like to thank the people who are to take up the burden of summarization in advance.

Thanks

I hope the Ranger thread uses a technique we saw employed to good effect in the Character Progression thread: In the very first post, invite people to list the three things they most want to change/address about the class.

Because if you don’t lay the groundwork from the very instant you open the thread asking for a short list, the avalanche of multi-post shopping lists of every tweak, fiddle, and microscopic bit of tinkering people have dreamed up over the last 15 months is going to be breathtaking.
