I’m a not expert in IT, but by the looks of it, i think in the other NCSoft games i play, the dungeon instance is actually owned by the game server and not by any party member, in gw2 is the other way around, a player is the one who host the dungeon, this relieve the game server for hosting the dungeons and allow infinite party’s to run the same dungeon at same time and with players of different world witch is awesome, but has this problem, if the owner leaves/dc/whatever all the group is kicked out, what we are asking is not easy for them to do, the best of 2 worlds, but they created this game, so impossible is nothing

i do think Spvp arenas are hosted by the server, so they can make the server host dungeons, so we never get kicked out as long as the party stays a party, but this way, they cannot allow you to stay there forever wasting gamer server resources and wasting that slot, they would have to set a limit time to finish the dungeon so you can’t stay there forever, that’s how works on other games, but normally with that system we can’t party with people form other worlds.

I’m looking forward to see how anet is gonna solve this “issue”

In my opinion would be better just create something like a EU dungeon server/world that you could get there like u go in Spvp, clicking on the swords menu, or the dungeon portals in the pve maps take it you to this “dungeon server” where u have several portals to all the the different dungeons and being like a “hall of dungeons” with the lions arch dungeon items vendors npc’s and merchants, etc… and since it would be a EU worldwide server, players from all EU servers could meet up there.

My best story about this was a FotM 11 PUG run a week or two ago. We were on Mai Trin (4th fractal), and the party leader logged out; we got a fourth, and made a final try at it. 4 manning it, we were on the final 25% when we were all kicked…

Boy, they’re “looking into” a lot of issues aren’t they?

I’m sure it’s just taking so long because they’re being careful and meticulous…right?

right?

RIGHT?

sigh

We’re currently looking into solutions for this and another nasty case: Party leader leaving the party and ejecting folks from the dungeon, forcing them to restart.

One of the solutions we’re investigating to the problem you posted though, is for the instance ownership to transition to the new “party leader” so that instead of everyone getting the boot, there is a player in the party who becomes the new owner and the group can continue on.
I’m sure I’m making it sound easier than it really is, but that is one of the solutions we are investigating. There’s a lot of tech magic way beyond my pay-grade that needs to happen, but we are working on a solution to this issue.

You guys should have thought of that on day one! Many instanced dungeon crawler mmos and just online join-in and play rpgs (like Sega’s Phantasy star Online [original]) and like hack-and-slash gauntlet types of games employ this to allow seemless transitions of keeping the instance going in case those sort of things that are out of control happen.

Yet there also needs to be a way to know who is leader once the old one leaves. PSO 2 has a little star that is extra for the leader in their hud on their life/energy guages I guess our small parry hud would have a small icon as well or maybe a border around a character’s mugcshot?

This is how Phantasy Star Online did it but through everyone’s clients sort of synced up (caused other problems though, but gw 2 and its dungeons will not have those problems a 15 year old game would). The quests selection and instances were relegated to the leader and if he left the generated game it will just change to the next person, no interruption. How it worked was that the parties formed a sort of layered instance where you have a named room+ optional extra functions such as locked with password, difficulty mode (game restricted to a certain minimum level + difficulty, level restrictions, etc. [in the sequel only] the room is sort of a section of a vast city where the shops are, then a portal to the actual places you could go to, and a quest counter which made a secondary level of instance that when the quest was over/or failed everyone was forced to leave and go back to the lobby (like our dungeons here but no lobby).

In either case, whether in the free playing of areas or the quests, if one left the instance, the focus of leader will shift down to the next person in order. Red→Yellow→Green→Blue then sort of random if people rejoin the room (if open and not in a quest) but it was not until the sequel that a clear indicator of who was leader was given (it started a funny guessing game of everyone taking turns at the quest counter many times).

There is a limit though on how long people can hot join your party/room in PSO2, and I think its an hour from time of creation. I think that would be fair for us too if these changes are to be made.

Who says you can’t take good things from older and newer other games in the history of gaming and improve on them?

Excellent. Do you know Hrouda left Anet a long time ago (August 2013).
You will never get any update on this one. Game has been living on and this crappy stuff is still here.

By the way, here is some thought about Hrouda when he left:

Today marks the release of the last bit of content I built for ArenaNet. I had always hoped my last hurrah would be an epic dungeon that would stand the test of time, and provide entertainment for players to the very end… but instead it’s an instance that will only persist for two weeks, and then go away.

You can really feel the sadness and disappointment in his words. At least I do everytime I read that.
