We want to give you a heads up about our next planned raids release: In the first event of the raid wing, some members of your squad (most likely half, or 5 out of 10) will need to have the Ley Line Gliding mastery trained in order for the team to succeed. For the final encounter, all members will need to have Ley Line Gliding.
So as you’re getting your masteries and deciding which line to pursue, give a special look at the Gliding Mastery and try to max that out, so you can be one of the cool kids on the team.
Stayed tuned in the coming weeks for more info on the planned release date.
What do You preparing? I am so hyped.
Cool, thanks for the heads up!
Will legendary armors be released at the same time on the release of the 3rd raid wing or just the precursors?
Thank you for the heads-up, Gaile (and team)!
Thanks Gaile.
I only have one question in regards to this change. Why not require every member of the raid group to have at least 2 legendary weapons to progress instead of just ley line gliding?
If you’re gonna go hardcore, you gotta go hardcore to the max. I feel like you guys are being way to generous with this requirement.
Just my 2¢.

I would imagine we’re just getting the precursors with this last wing and the rest of the armors will be finished with a new raid that has its own 3 wings. That or they’ll drag the acquisition of the various pieces across several raids(each getting 3 wings of their own), but that would be pretty annoying.
thanks for the heads up, would be nice if you guys told us approximately about when the next raid wing should be released, so i could ask for a vacation at my work /o/

I hope they don’t go that far. My guess is that we’ll get the precursor this wing and probably collection II and III then the legendary armor will be released in the fall update.

If you refuse to finish the gliding mastery line for whatever reason, there are still two other raid wings you can play that don’t require Ley Line Gliding.
What if it were to grant players in the instance provisional status for those masteries, and only while in the instance? That would make it more accessible.

Don’t see why that needs to happen. Just need to do a few meta events. There are guides all over the place on how to get the required mastery points. I don’t think this is a barrier at all.

Yah, but that is like going out to watch a movie, and knowing you will only ever see 2/3rd’s of it. Spoils the whole thing.
Also, I have to agree with Katz on this one, it’s for the best they did this, it’s better this way to know that it’s never gonna happen. The heads up is appreciated.
Great news guys, Raids were not created aimed for casual players or being accessible, you actually need to spend/invest time (practicing/improving/getting gear/getting masteries) to do the content :o
Thanks Gaile.

Cuz that’s dumb as hell
We will probably get even more spare mastery points in raids. (5 needed of 10 available right now). So if you are a “hardcore raider” getting the last points should get even easier with the next wing.
Thanks for letting us know!
Hm, I have it unlocked and I pretty much think this is a bad idea. Just because it will make the raid less accessible.
I mean, I find it hard enough to find 10 like-minded individuals, let alone that there’s these other hoops these individuals need to jump through.
Then again, it’s not like I have the time to get into raiding anyway. So maybe it’s a moot point.

?
ALL Heart of Thorns Legendaries required maxed out HoT masteries to craft them, so why is this exactly a problem?
Hell, just to max exalted and gliding all I did was just play the story and do the meta events on each map.
No adventure golds, nothing special. So why can’t you get there?
Oh no, the content that actually requires people to play the game to access. I’ve never seen such atrocity before!!!11
Oh wait. Leveling…
I’d like seeing ley gliding being refined before being used as raid mechanic, cause it feels quite glitchy when i use it at least resulting in me falling to my death quite often; not sure if others have the same issue. :/

IMO the problem here is that there are many non-PvE players that play and don’t bother with the masteries. They Raid for the challenge. This effectively forces them to PvE whether they want to do so or not.
What is bothersome with this reply is that you are basically belittling Katz’s frustration. Not cool.

First of all, raiding is PvE. Second of all, if those people are really looking for a challenge, then they can try and do it without ley-line gliding. Which isn’t necessary, as the new wing will only require half of the players on the team (so five (5) out of ten (10) players) to have ley-line gliding.

Raiding is END GAME PVE content. You cannot hope to simply rush to 80 and be able to walk into the THIRD raid wing casually.
There must always be a learning process in PVE, and that starts with hitting 80, finishing HoT storylines, Finishing HoT masteries THEN joining and attempting raids.
It literally takes you 2-3 days to get enough XP and mastery points to complete gliding mastery. Your complaining is unreasonable

Except for the final fight all 10 need ley line gliding. So what half the people can participate in all of it but the most important one? Pretty dumb.
Thanks Gaile.

????
Also, everyone who’s raiding should have finished masteries by now, if you didn’t, stop being a lazy and get some mastery points, doesn’t even take long… You want to play endgame, so prepare yourself for endgame. ANet is being extremely generous by not adding a gear treadmill to the game, because that would be much worse.
Are you people serious? Do you have to whine about everything? Its the last wing of the raid… So what if it requires Ley Line? Every1 who has HoT should have it already… I never ever grinded any exp in HoT and I got max masteries after like a month of casual playing. I mean seriously, whats the point of masteries if you dont have to use them anywhere…..
Thanks Gaile.

Did I say that it WASN’T PvE? I said that a lot of people who don’t do PvE do raids for the challenge.
Also, I read everything, not just the part I wanted to argue with someone about, and the end boss WILL require EVERYONE to Ley-Line Glide.
So, your “first of all” was for what purpose? and your “second of all” is obviously short of the mark. So again, what was the point of your post?
Jesus Christ, acquiring masteries have been become so stupidly easy…

Just because there’s a conservative mindset regarding raiding in MMO shouldn’t define the genre. Otherwise we still would be stuck with WoW Clones rather than MMOs who try to change it up.
In other words, it’s not people who don’t know, it’s just people who prefer other things than you. Then again such news is usually propaganda.
(edited by FrizzFreston.5290)
I believe that those willing to raid who have already gone through and leveled gliding, shrooms and updraft specifically because the previous wings requested them, would not find any issue leveling Ley-line.
Some of these raiders likely participated in Auric Basin for Viper’s gear, and I would say given the food and utility costs that most if not all raiders would participate in the now quite rewarding HoT zones as compared to farming Silverwastes all day.
And I bet those complaining about the hardcore ‘raiding only’ players not being capable of getting masteries and experience are they themselves not of that type.
I am more than certain that it’s those who really hate raids just trying to find another excuse to trash on them more.
Yes, every opinion other than you is just complaining.
Thanks for your insight. >→

End game …. It speaks for itself, so i fail to see said propaganda especially when the following is taken verbatim from the original raid blogpost
Raids will also tie into our new, advanced Mastery system of progression. We’ll be introducing new Mastery tracks and abilities that will be closely tied to progressing though raids, which our designers will be talking about in an upcoming blog.

You’ve had 268 days of knowledge that they would be required and 213 days to act on said knowledge. I think its past the time to be blaming Anet for their design when clearly this is a case of player not playing.
Well on one end, the big selling argument for raid was “There is no attunement to go in our raid”. No there is a “soft-attunement”, so i can see why people could complain….
On the other hand, Gliding mastery is one of the most profitable through all the Jungle zone, and almost everyone completed it first. And, honestly, leveling the mastery must be shorter than collect/craft the right gear to go for raid, so if one is motivated enough to be geared, there is no point in complaining about the mastery.
Sounds good to me. Its extremly casual to be mastery lvl 166 by now.
This is an outrage! How dare you require people to actually play the game Anet? Remove masteries, remove gearing, remove leveling. Just allow everyone to instantly finish any type of content they want without any prior preparation.
Seriously though, I have to ask. Those of you making stupid complaints… are you complaining for yourselves or just assume others would have a problem with it and speak for them? Because everybody and their mom has 166 at this point without even trying. I’d love to see a single person doing raids successfully (i.e. not leeching others) who doesn’t have (or cannot get) Ley-Line Gliding.
And if you’re for some reason unable to finish even the easiest silver medals on adventures, you’re not welcome to raids. You’ll only drag everyone down and they’ll kick you out very soon anyway. So don’t bother. Save up 400g and pay for it like all those TP-flippin AP hunters.

The propaganda was more a stab at your shorthand comment about the news at 11. Mostly because what you said isn’t news, it’s just a set of untruths that you came up with to suit your own opinion. Much like propaganda. I guess being subtle just made you misunderstand that.
Plus it’s that End Game in any game doesn’t mean just one thing that it has always meant before and it should be that way forever because that’s what it always has been like so it must be perfect! Hence different preferences, it’s really not that hard to understand.

They are clearly talking about the mastery that belongs to the raid, like the fractal mastery track belongs to fractals. >_> You’re just putting words in their mouths now.
I mean, obviously it’s already important enough to “warn” players that they probably should focus on a specific mastery track, in case they wish to progress in the next raid wing. That’s a thing apparently that needs to be said here on the forum. Again, after “all those days”. Whatever you’re saying there about this info being available there being enough is already proven wrong by the very existence of this thread. There are always returning players or new players that may be not grinded up to this point and/or didn’t have all these days of “knowledge”.
Anyway I wasn’t blaming for bad design, and more a thing of questioning why it would be designed that way, since it makes raids (even) less accessible. (For probably more interesting encounters I hope) Simple logic and a broader view on things would ask, why design it that way in the first place? It’s no crime to be sceptically asking such questions/ forming such opinions.
But yeah, if you’ve played long enough getting this one isn’t all that hard to get. It just shouldn’t become a thing, imo.
if you aren’t 166 by now or dont put in the effort to get at least the bare minimum needed for raids you aren’t the target audience.
I have all masteries completed and I was fairly casual about it. 90% of the xp I got through raiding and honestly, it’s not very hard to get the mastery points at all. It doesn’t even take more than a day to get all the points for all masteries, let alone for a single line.
lots of assumptions were made about me and my statement. you know what they say about assumptions.
i’m not new. i didn’t rush to 80. i’ve been around since January 2013. my main is fully outfitted in ascended head to toe and 2 legendaries, and my other 11 characters are all 80 and fully outfitted in appropriate exotic gear, sigils, runes, etc etc etc. however, i prefer WvW. pretty much always have ever since i first discovered it a few weeks into exploring the game. i raided pretty heavily in EQ, and almost constantly in DDO.. soloed epic elite quests frequently (instanced dungeons in DDO have settable difficulty... epic elite is the hardest), and was even the first bard to solo the Thirteenth Eclipse raid in DDO (when bards were widely regarded as the game’s laughingstock worst class.)
when raiding was introduced here, my train of thought went "oh, cool. i’ll have to check it out..." to being totally turned off by the elitest bullkitten that many (not all, but many) people spewed about NEEDING TO BE a certain meta build yadda yadda ad nauseum. i was still willing to run with friends and guildies.... and now, i find out that i need to run a lot more HoT, which i’ve NEVER really enjoyed all that much, to do the final wing? barf. i’ll still run with friends and guildies if they want, but i have absolutely no motivation to try to progress through the raid chain. at all.
if it makes me a filthy casual to admit that i don’t want to put up with that crap... then so be it. just don’t step into WvW on the opposing team from me. :-P
and sincerely thank you to Gaile for giving me the heads up. really. sorry for raining on the raid fanboi’s parade.
First of all, raiding is PvE. Second of all, if those people are really looking for a challenge, then they can try and do it without ley-line gliding. Pointing out that “people who don’t do PvE” would then also not do raids, because raids are PvE, see?
You lot would be surprised how many experienced and skilled players are at endgame and don’t have 100, let alone 166 mastery points. I’ve run T4 fractals with quite a few people in the 10K+ AP range who fit this description.
To be fair though, it really isn’t hard to max gliding, unless you’ve made the mistake of spending all your points on the other mastery lines. For months people have been advising others to make sure they max gliding first, both here and in-game, so I don’t think this will be much of an issue for the raiding community.
That said, earning masteries isn’t a simple matter of ‘playing the game’. Let’s be honest – many of them require completion of a number of unsatisfying and often frivolous achievements that under other circumstances, would be entirely ignored.
Thanks Gaile.

You are trolling right? Wait, are you serious?!! Let me match this troll in scale…
I would assume that there will be two new precursors for that two legendary weapon requirement. And those two precursors can only be obtained by drops from raid bosses which have 0.00000000000001% drop rate. This way it won’t be that much generous I guess????
