Hey guys as the title says I was wondering, can anyone point out a good guide for CoF path 2?
I did it for the first time today, the so called “kiting event” felt really stupid, my party sacrificed itself over and over again in order to go through it.
So far I checked a few YouTube videos nobody has done it on a different way tho.

It seem like farming CoF gear will take a while, any advice i can get will be much appreciated

We did it another way. If you have a strong dps team, get someone to mark targets as they “pop” out of the ground, (Smoker→Fanatic→etc…), and dps burn them down.

Get a tanky crithammer (see guardian forum for sticky) guardian to gather the mobs up with greatsword 5 then just dps them. Its easiest if your dps is 100b warriors but my group has done this with several different comps, you just need high dps.

Just kill the spawns. We usually kill the last hellstorm by 95%.

You need high dps and focusfire, it is totally doable with a good party. The first few spawns are the hardest to get the rhythm going and to down them fast enough, otherwise you’ll get overwhelmed.

Last time I did this, I convinced my PuG to kill the spawns instead of kitting. We were doing good until around 85% when some players started to die. Those of us still standing, were able to kite the remaining 15% since there weren’t many mobs left.

It was the first time I did this path without an armor repair bill.

With any semi-decent team you can kill the targets as they spawn and not be overwhelmed. All you need is 1-2 tankier players and then a few with good AoE damage. My epidemic necro loves this method.

Reposting how I do it from another thread:

“Anyway, I’ve never met a pug that I couldn’t guide through killing in the defense event (Provided they didn’t have MF armour or were 5 sig babbies) so I’ll try and help you here.

Potentially the most important part is the opening moves, because if you don’t kill the three starting flame legion really quickly, then they will start to add up and you will fail through simply being overwhelmed. Now, the most important target while killing is the godforged smokelords. These are priority one. You must burn them down as fast as you can every time you see them. There is one that spawns with the initial three, and one that spawns roughly 2 minutes in near the end. With the initial spawn, you should take the moment of calm before the storm to create a fire field and use as many blast finishers into it as you possibly can within reason. You should then have a fair few stacks of might making the first battle quite quick/easy, but to be sure, you want to try some control/manipulation on the initial wave to ensure you don’t mess up. If you have a guardian, get him to use Binding Blade to bring all three together to DPS them with ease. If you have a Necromancer, before the fight tell him to switch one of his utility skills to the well that blinds on each pulse, and use it on the smokelord – most of his attacks will be nullified, making him no more difficult than a regular enemy. A thief can do the same thing with pistol/sword or general thievery. If anybody has control effects that they can use, use it on the smokelord wherever possible. After that the only creeps that spawn are ones that are not as much of a trouble, but it’s still not time to rest on your laurel because they do some large damage. This is more of an attrition fight than a straight up DPS fest, so you need people giving out buffs , heals, and condition removal wherever possible – water field into blast finisher is an extremely underrated heal which will really help you. When the next smokelord spawns, repeat what you did on the first one and then it’s just easy creeps from there on out.

The other flame legion type that people may have trouble with is the flamethrower (godforged flamelord?) creeps. They have a lot of sustained damage but they move slow and are predictable, and if you interrupt them they don’t start attacking for a while longer. All in all it’s Smokelord>stick together, buff allies, take down other creeps>smokelord>win.

Honestly I will be extremely disappointed if anet nerf this event, it’s one of the few things in that whole kitten path that I actually enjoy. Devourers? Boring autoattack. Bombs? Sleepwalk through it. Magmacyte? Glitchy irritating time waster. post-nerf boss? afk autoattack damage sponge. Where’s the fun anymore?"

Hope it helps, it’s really not as hard as it sounds.

I normally agree with this topic except I did it with a PUG group last month and we straight up totally DPSed everything in the room down without a single death or attempt at kiting. I guess all it takes was a well geared party with good skills.

While this is an overall piece of advice, when dealing with the flamethrower charr it’s helpful to just pop weakness on him. Adding to the utility of guardians in dungeons, Signet of Judgment causes AoE weakness alongside its ally retaliation. Popping weakness for a few seconds on those guys can mean the difference between having no life and a long burn…or laughing as he hits you for hardly 100 per hit.

I’ve done this with all guards and wars, and I’ve done it as being the only guardian on the team. It requires (gasp!) teamwork, which unfortunately is being discarded in today’s dungeon runners. I was in a CoF p2 run where, refusing to run around and die continuously, I was unceremoniously booted. We had two guardians and an elementalist, which is more than enough to keep the heals flowing and enemies nuked.

Honestly, it’s much more fun to work as a team and kill the enemies rather than unequipping your armor and sprinting around to die. Alas, that is not the “fotm” strategy as of late.

It’s true, how much it seems the devs favor the soldier professions in PvE is despicable. A group of 2 guards and 3 wars or 2 wars and 3 guards that knows what they’re doing will do every single dungeon faster and die less than any other profession combination if they know what they’re doing as well. Soldiers are just made better (I main a mesmer, before you ask)

What.

1) You need DPS, not a tank. That much should be obvious.
2) You are telling him to use a hammer but use a GS skill? Eh?

The best way to do this is simply to mark the high priority targets (Smokelords, Hellstorms, Fanatics in that order) and let AOE take care of the rest. It’s really not that hard unless people start dying for some reason.

No, the question shouldn’t be that.

The question should be, How does it feel to play that way?
The answer is… Better, faster, and more efficient than playing with any other inferior PvE professions.

But ignorance is a bliss, how does it feel to think inferior PvE professions are as useful?

nope, he’s not a troll, 100b for warriors is kitten broken in PvE it obliterates everything since AI thinks standing in a hurricane of attacks is ok, as for guardians, their buffs are insane ._.

Nothing hits harder than a glass cannon, greatsword specced warrior against something that doesn’t move, other classes have great damage, but when up against AI the soldier class is uncontested.

My parties usually DPS the early part (the first ranged spawn plus its trash, then usually 1-2 of the following silver ranged spawns). By the time we start getting overwhelmed, there’s usually only 40% left, at most, and it’s not nearly as hard to kite for the remaining time, because there’s significantly fewer mobs trying to chase you for not as long.

Make sure you call targets.

Epic sheeping bro!

I’ve done this many many times and the easiest run I had was 2 necros, 1 warrior, a ranger, and an elementalist. And this includes runs with 5 warriors. Warriors are only OP in terms of killing stuff that provides little resistance apart from damage faster than everyone else. They’re on equal footing on fights that actually require teamwork and utility other than just damage to get it done faster.

I kill it all the time with 3 war 2 mesmer in money runs doing 1-1-1-2.

I also have a normal video doing it with my normal 2 guard/2 war/1 mes group for a ~15 minute path 2 run, it looks like I uploaded it back on Nov 7th though, since then we’ve become alot more efficient at running this path.

Was going to make a path 1 and 2 video from my mesmer perspective soon in the 3 war/2 mesmer group to show how money runs are done now.

Because weapon swapping is so hard right?!?! An even better tick is greatsword 5 followed by hammer 5.

The 1 tanky dude provides perma protection to the 100b warriors in full zerker gear killing everything and takes some of the hate too, making it quick safe and easy to clear the event with no problems.

Yes. Killing all the mob is possible.

I mainly do PUG and I have done the dps method even then. However, you do need good group dps to pull it off “effectively”, no matter how good an individual member in a pug is. By “effectively”, I mean able to clear off each wave of mobs completely before the next wave spawns.

I have been in groups where we killed everything before meter hits 100%. I have been in groups that have a couple adds remaining when its 100% but without dying or downing once. I have been in groups where the dps method failed at the midway point and transited into the kiting method. I also have been in groups that just did the kiting method in a few different rotation orders.

Just be flexible especially in pugs as you can’t really control what others in your team do. To add, while im not a particularly good kiter, I have seen really good kiters solo that event for high percentages. Even heard of those who solo’ed it from 0 to 100% without dying (though I have yet to see it for myself).

Always kill the mobs here, people just say its impossible cause thats what they been told and never tried them self. And about only guardians and warriors working I say bull!
The other day we were a group considting of Warrior,Necro,Thief,Elementalist and a Mesmer. First time in CoF for the ele, the mesmer dinged 80 while inside the dungeon, Still we managed to kill them, It wasn’t flawless without anyone ever getting downed, and all mobs weren’t dead when he got to 100%, but noone died and we all stayed in the room and focused down the important targets. Sure its way easier with a guardian/warrior setup, still doable with other classes as well.

Sure its not easy but its not hard either if you play it properly. Just kill the adds and don’t suck, a little teamplay helps, full zerk “OMGICANHAZBIGNUMBERS” usually gets you killed.

It really is best to hard a guard go in first cause they seem to last a lot longer.
When he dies you send in throw away classes that are sure to die fast like casters.
Good to send in a ranger with traps and snares. Eng is also pretty good and snaring.
I don’t think i’ve ever beat it without the guardian going in first. It is just one of those things that there really good at.
