Cof: defending Magg without run
Well done.
I’ve always been in favor of slugging it out as well, but naturally I get shot down by everyone else.
Do you even lift, bro?
Nice video!
Defending Magg without WP-zerging is definitely possible providing you have the AoE-DPS to take them out in a suitable amount of time. Having Guardians that can use their GS-pull ability to help bunch them up, and then have glass cannons lay waste to them. It’s a text-book tank-n-spank method but it seems to work. Although, in your case, you have two Warriors and two Guardians. If I knew any better, the two Soldier professions tend to synergize very well with each other for devastating effects. It doesn’t really surprise me honestly.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
lmao, try it with a different party composition.
Yeah you can’t tank that room without a lot of heavies in your team.
My guild group does that room easily with 1 mesmer, 1 ele, 1 necro, 1 glass canon warriora and 1 support warrior. We are usually ahead of the spawn.
Can be done with every setup. Even with 5 ele.
You can do it with different team compositions, as long as each member isn’t a burden.
Unfortunately most PuGs refuse to kill those monsters (some even thinking that it’s impossible) and after doing the dungeon with them, I can sometime clearly see that killing them would be impossible so I don’t even suggest the idea of fighting.
Really nice video!
I’ve always wondered if this is possible. But since most people treat the usual cof run as some kind of religious ritual, they didn’t even know how to do things differently.
That is nothing new, we always do DPS instead of kite when running guild groups. It is very easy when you’re used to it.
I Look for videos or post where someone talked about this way and found nothing, so I decided to upload the video.
Only one of us used meal and we had not cof’s potions so I think It could have been even easier.
The first time someone did that path probably had only blue/green items, now we usually go “near-full-exotics”, just give a chance

Thank you for uploading it, I’m tired of people thinking there is only one way to do things. Like the comment that this could only be done with a lot of heavy’s in the group. It has to do with player skill alone. Not class make up.
If you can kill the flamethrower guys before the next flamethrower guy spawns, it’s not that hard. If you can’t kill him in time you’ll get out-swarmed by the enemies and die. Can be done with any party setup, but I usually just do zerg-death-stacking-repair-bill-method when I PUG this dungeon, as most people don’t know how to do damage.
Rules for no repair bill on defending magg
1- have a good dps
2- dont scatter the mobs
3- dont run from the mobs like a headless chicken, pack together
Well that’s the Magic of 2 Warriors + 2 Guardians + 1 Mesmer.
Not to bash you, but that’s hardly your average pug.
I know it’s possible and have done it myself but it’s still a tall order for your average PUG, which is what 95% of CoF runs are.
When I do pug runs of this I always say that we should at least kill the first few waves. That then leads to us actually fighting the mobs the whole time and not just dying the whole time. The dps is usually not very strong in pugs to keep up with the spawns but we will be able to live, fight them, and not just run around and die. It is way more fun to do the fighting way then running way.
People call you crazy for doing this? It’s not that hard and it’s hardly worthy of a video.
really bad engineer
And now with 3 lights (1 Warrior + 1 Guardian + 2 Elementalists + 1 Mesmer)
it is definitely possible, just need concentrated fire and call targets.
I’d like to see this done with a group that lacks both warriors, guardians, and ele.
Something like:
engineer + ranger(x2) + necro + mesmer
A lot of these dps gates are unfair to professions which lack the require dps and party boons.
Usually in pugs i’ve run, its easy enough to measure up the party in encounters before this to understand whether an all-in is possible. Testing the waters with the first and second set of spawns in the room should always be done.
For low dps groups, usually a combination of all-in fighting in the first half and kiting with 2-2 splits in the second half is a compromise.

I did this smoothly about a day ago with this composition of guildies:
2 rangers, 2 mesmers, 1 thief.
The trick to doing it with rangers is geared and knowledgeable. Myself and my ranger friend were glass cannon with longbow/shortbow and constantly switching out pets and weapons to gain fury and quickness, and lining up targets for massive aoe damage. It’s not something the average pug ranger is capable of in most instances sadly, If they’re sitting there spamming skill 1 on the shortbow, it’s not gonna work out. We ended up dps’ing everything down so fast there was no need for a heavy class. No downed or deaths.
It’s entirely possible but with pugs I am not so sure how it’d go.

The problem isn’t doing it.
The problem is convincing everyone else in your party that it is doable.
Do you even lift, bro?
Common denominator = mesmer. Everyone should roll one
Common denominator = mesmer. Everyone should roll one
More often than not I run without a mesmer, although I am usually on my guardian which probably compensates for that. It’s perfectly doable without a mesmer, and in some cases it’s been easier.. not sure why.. just the DPS was good I guess.

I’ve never done it with a mesmer, just have good damage and know how to focus that damage and you should do ok with pretty much any group composition. 2 guardians and 3 warriors would probably be easier than 5 thieves but it’s more important to play to the group’s strengths than to focus on a specific group composition.
The problem I believe is that we rely to much on Guardians and Warriors to succeed.
Myself being a Guardian I can tell that when I do not play correctly, things start to be a lot more difficult (assuming I am the only Guardian of the group). But it has already been told that Guardians/Warriors seem to be much useful in dungeons.
Not to take anything from Warriors or Guardians but a lot of warriors I play with are glass cannons and cant dodge in time. On the other side of the spectrum, you have a few Guardians that are pure support builds with little DPS.
As for mesmers well, lets just say I dont think shatter and/or glass cannon builds work well for this part or mesmers who dont use focus.

Its because of Time Warp. You can hit it when your team is being overwhelmed to clear as many as possible before next wave spawns or when u need to res 2 downed teammates quickly.

Yes I’m well aware of timewarp, what I’m trying to say is, it’s not needed to be able to complete it unless your team has slow DPS.
I wouldn’t want people to say ‘oh we don’t have a Mesmer so we may as well not even try.’

absolutely agree
I’m the mesmer in those videos and my strength is Time Warp. It can save the fight, but I’m not sure if It has to be saved cause I’m a mesmer and not a higher area dps. My glass canon engineer (granadier) has a much higher damage (+area blind +area chilled) and I’m pretty sure a higher area dps for 3 minutes could be better and a +100% damage for 10 sg.

If strifey finds this he will no doubt post 1 of his many videos that his group does this. Surprised he hasn’t yet actually lol.

Meh I only do that for new stuff, I’ve had the CoF 2 walkthrough in the sticky on this forum for the past 1.5 months and I figure most groups know how to do it by now. Gj to the threadstarter though.
I do have new money run CoF vids I’m uploading though using our 3 war/2 mesmer group.

with my thief my role is:
perma daze lock the fire casters which we burn down 1st (S/D)
when they are all packed up it a lot more easy for soaking up incoming dmg as every 3s my CnD will aoe blind.
clusterbomb spam blast to pre might stack the team
