The people crying about this are ridiculous. They won’t be satisfied with ANYTHING until they get the whole dungeon set from one path.

Yea, wanting to do a dungeon once per character is of course very very exploitive, because its not like we are going to need more tokens to gear up as well. Oh wait.

I’m able to run all paths on my three 80s and I get 60 tokens each time as long as it’s the first run they do.

I can only think this is a bug. I ran Magg path and Ferrah path in Citadel of Flame with my guardian. I then ran Honor of the Waves Plunderer and Butcher paths with him. In all of the above runs I got 60 tokens.
I then ran through the Magg path in Citadel of Flames with my thief and got 60 tokens but the Ferrah path gave me only 30 token. As a test I ran the Butcher path in Honor of the Waves with my thief and once again got 60 tokens.
I do not know whats going going but DR does not seems to be account bound but rather some bug is affecting some characters. If it helps my thief was one of the bugged chars that never got the full 60 reward tokens while my guardian always did.

As a sidenote: I find it odd, Jon, rather than looking into the matter is just going outright and saying that it is working as intended when something is obviously not working correctly here. I have respect for the dev team at Anet but this is the second time I have noticed him do such a thing, the first time, was immediately after the 60 token patch when several chars were bugged and he said it was working as intended and it was just DR kicking in.

After a few runs I think i have an understanding of how the system woks.

Each path has a first time run bonus flag and an akward DR “First run bonus” timer.
Each path,after the second run has a DR “reward” timer account bound.
I’m not sure how long but i think it’s around 1h-1h30.

1.Doing one dungeon path earns you 20+40 first time run bonus,total 60tokens.
DR “First time run Bonus” timer starts and current character is flagged with having done first time run.

2a.Doing the same dungeon path a second time with the same character earns you 20tokens. DR rewards timer starts.

2b.Doing the same dungeon path a second time with another character will earn you 20+10 first time character run bonus,total 30tokens. DR rewards timer starts and character flagged for first time run bonus.

However If you wait a certain amount of time for the DR “first time run bonus” to go off (unknown how long),before doing the same dungeon a second time with any of your characters and you run it with a different character you earn with that character 20+40first time run bonus,for a total of 60tokens.

3.Each subsequent time you do the same dungeon path before waiting for the DR timer to go off, will earn you only 10tokens. This also resets the DR timer.
If instead,you wait for the DR timer to go off before (?)starting/finishing(?) the same dungeon path,then you will get 20tokens.

I’m just curious how long I have to wait to get full reward again for a different dungeon, because running other dungeons also gives me 30 tokens. I know it has a timer, but I’m unsure how long, 1 hour or 2 hours? Anyone know?

Let me ask you this, do you get a big shiny popup at the end of the dungeon that says: “Dungeon Reward”, that gives tokens/karma and gold?

Hint: Answer is no. So no DR on Fractals.

Just did Arah and got 60 tokens, seems like the DR resets at a 2 hour max.

EDIT: Just did another 4 dungeon runs (for 60 tokens), on the 5th run I got 8 tokens. I guess it’s on a 2 hour cycle. I’ll wait another 2 hours before I go do more dungeons.

Also for anyone to lazy to read, the old 2 hour cooldown for DR between dungeon running on alts is still there.

Long story short, I run a few different dungeon paths everyday that take anywhere from 20-30 minutes.

I have 2x 80s and 1x 52 right now, so run a couple 80 dungeons twice and AC path two 3 times a day.

Before tonight’s patch, I would always get 60 tokens per path per character and never experienced DR.

After tonight’s patch, I just ran 5 dungeon runs across my 3 chars. 2 on two different characters, and one on my 3rd character.

First 3 runs I got the normal 60 tokens, but last 2 runs I just did I only got 30 tokens. Is this intentional now?

DR is getting ridiculous now. I just ran CoF path 1 at 5 AM on character A, got 60 tokens, 26s.
Then ran CoF path 1 at 6 AM on Character B, got 30 tokens, 12s.
Then ran CoF path 1 at 7 AM on Character C, got 15 tokens, 6s.

What the hell? There is an hour interval in there and I still get DR after the first run?!

Can a dev please give a detailed description on how this DR system works so I stop wasting my time?

Who cares, the topic still remains, and DR is still an issue for legit players. Even though it’s supposed to be only for ‘exploiters’.

The developers have specifically said that they will not explain the DR mechanism to players in order to prevent giving exploiters the information they need to circumvent the system.

That said, we as a community have done plenty of research on the topic.

That is a cheap kitten cop-out and you know it.

As if it prevented us from figuring this out anyway.

the fact this game needs to add DR to it’s dungeons makes most other mmo’s with dungeons look way better.

Agreed. We did all the research ourselves, and we understand DR really well. The fact that we had to do it this way because they, for whatever reason, assumed we couldn’t figure it out is crazy.

You can EASILY by pass DR if you know what you are doing, as in you can get 60 tokens per path per character from a dungeon if you know the system, those of you complaining just dont know whats going on, and no I dont feel like saying it since people are way to willing to jump the gun without taking the time out to figure something out.

Also, other games with dungeons had lock out timers that lasted hours, I think DR on dungeons is fine, in fact Anet has done an excellent job with the dungeon system in this game, considering as a player who hates pve, I am still doing dungeons 4 months post release, Tera/Aion/Swtor/Warhammers all had lockouts which prevented me from doing anything meaningful or “quick”.

lol i made this thread 2 months ago, since then people have figured it out.

Global dungeon DR occurs on your 5th run in a 2 hours span. It is a scaling reset, meaning you can run a dungeon without DR 2 hours after you completed your first path, but the counter for the paths you ran after it still remain. So if you took 20 min. between your 1st and 2nd path, you need to wait 20 minutes between your next 1st and 2nd path after 2 hours if you don’t want to hit DR.

Character specific DR for a given path is also 2 hours. Since I have multiple 80s and do CoF money runs, I take in different characters every 2 hours. This allows me to get the 60-20-10-60 tokens from running a 1-1-1-2 path on each one of my characters.

You will hit path DR and only get 30 tokens on your next character if you don’t wait the 2 hours. So it’s pretty easy to just do a 1-1-1-2 path on one of your characters, go do your fractal dailies, then come back to CoF and do 1-1-1-2 path on a different character and still get the 60 token first run bonus.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for. And kinda proves what I’ve been researching myself. I didn’t know about the 2 hour limit on the same path, I was wondering why I kept getting DR when I clearly didn’t do that path on a specific character, but I did run the same path 10 minutes earlier on my other character.

it’s honestly obvious why they did this, if all people had to do to get exotic armor and weapons was to farm dungeons all day, then who would bother crafting at all? considering all things, some dungeons are still more favorable to run compared to crafting (like CoF), and if what i hear is true, dungeon runs only gave 20 tokens originally? so if this is right, then adding the first of the day bonus was a reasonable compensation against DR. i mean, it would be nice to get 60 on each alt per day, but then people would just do speed runs of CoF with 5 characters, which thus a lot would do this for the mystic forge, or fast twinking a recent 80 alt with zerg gear. so i guess i don’t have a problem with this system, but it does make you have to be patient instead of just repeat runs per day.

Pretty sure it’s intentional, seeing how they put the 40 tokens in the daily chest and the 20 on path completion…

I mean, I don’t mind them putting DR on tokens THAT much, since it promotes variety. But honestly, it would be a lot better if they reversed the rewards. Put 40 on a dungeon path and 20 in the daily chest. If you repeat the dungeon on the same character, it’s down to 20.

That way, you still get incentive to try other paths, but you can still go back to doing the same paths and be somewhat rewarded.
