Lupicus Melee Solo, 8.5 mins
Good job, once again. 8 and a half minutes is about as long as it takes for an average pug to kill that guy, too. :P
Now that you’ve more or less mastered the giant undead doggy, what’s next on your agenda?
Solo Grawl Fractal boss on difficulty 20+. You got this, bro!
Nice run, and ye, hylarious is timed as a 5 manned fight. Talking about unbalance.. ah wait, maybe Robert Hrouda is gonna post soon how amazing you are and not about balance every class to do the same ( or underpower those curious classes).
Gj,
I still remember the days of Super meat boy and Prinny: Can I really be the hero?
Everything is possible with muscle memory.
Nonetheless, nice work

It is indeed pretty amazing. To be honest though, this can probably be done with enough practice with any class. Smart use of evasion, blocking, and only dodge rolling when you should. He saves his dodge roll for the appropriate times, weapon swaps to let his endurance refill… It is honestly just really solid gameplay regardless of class.
I’m actually trying to figure a way to do this using my ranger with shortbow and sword/dagger.
Rangers are good in this match-up with other players, but really bad otherwise. The sword-animation-lock bug really breaks their ability to properly melee GL, and their dodge trait isn’t quite as reliable as Reckless Dodge in breaking through his Phase 3 bubble. It also hurts a lot that the Ranger dps is severely undercut compared to the Warrior’s, so this would take a much longer period of time with many more chances to fail. It also doesn’t help that the Ranger has poor control over its mobility, unlike the Warrior who can aim his GS 3 to evade out of GL’s life steals in Phase 3. What I do is pack Lightning Reflexes and aim my back to escape the Phase 3 bubbles and life steals; it’s pretty much your best chance.
This video irritates me. Not due to the player’s skill, which is obvious, but to the blatant several times where he’s inside the sphere (phase 3) and can just roll / block out. My engineer can’t do that (even when activating gear shield – it cancels my channel if I try to run out with it active and promptly gets me killed). No other class can do that. He doesn’t have stability (that I’m seeing), so I’m not sure why he’s able to do that but other classes can’t.
The Warrior minor trait Reckless Dodge allows him to do that. Other classes’ dodge traits work similarly, though almost none of them are as reliable.

So how exactly does “Deal damage at the end of your dodge roll” grant stability mid-dodge? That seems pretty kitten. I’ve got explosive evasion or w/e the engineer one is (leave a bomb when you dodge), it certainly doesn’t allow such shenanigans. At least I know what buggy code is permitting such feats, thanks.
It’s not actually Stability. From testing, it just seems to bypass this one thing that GL does for whatever reason. I’m not sure if it allows the Warrior to escape from Guardian Hammer 5 or roll through Guardian Staff 4, though that would be an interesting test for anyone who has access to their game to do. For the record, Evasive Arcana works here too (though some report it works for only certain attunements).

Have you actually tried doing any of these bosses solo? I still hear about how weak Mesmers are in PvE, which is laughable to me. We are able to amazing things. And Robert is right, every class can dodge. That’s a huge part of soloing most of these fights.
Well, since we got dev here, maybe he could shed a light on why dodging out of necrid trap is possible with some traits.

Not every class got a trait that bypasses necrid trap. On guardian it’s very unreliable, while on ele it works okay.

soling the boss? yep every class can do it… some can do it easier some have to struggle a bit more…
doing it in 8,5 min… about this I have some doubt that every class can do it… but if the dev is so sure about it… than he surely have a vid or data of someone doing it ^^
because dev talk only based on data and not personal (possibly biased) opinion… right?
(the last sentence was obviously ironic… but reading it again it doesn’t sound as clear as when I thought of it… so better clarify it…)

Yep, that sucks. I wish dev would comment which one is intended (how can they find it awesome if I rely on bugged trait…).

Sure thing. And while we are it I would love to get teleport skill, some combo-fields, protection and maybe feedback too.
After reviewing this and talking with a couple other designers about it, I am now investigating dodge rolls and lupicus’s bubble.
As a Necromancer, I can roll out of Lupicus’ bubble — with and without my roll trait — 100 percent of the time. The problem for most people is they try to roll out when they’re standing in the middle. Like every single wall ability in the game, they should be standing close to the edge before rolling. That way the roll’s immunity period lasts while their characters are crossing the wall, not bumping into it as the roll begins or ends.
This has worked every single time as a Necromancer for me. Again, that’s with and without my roll trait.
I think Lupicus is the best designed fight in the game because everything about it is difficult but not impossible. It’s brilliant.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
It is honestly just really solid gameplay regardless of class.

I’d love to see you try that with a bugged weapon that roots you in place on 2nd and 3rd attacks preventing other actions. Oh, and to add insult to injury, if you happen to dodge roll immediately after the 1st attack, your dodge roll bugs.
Not trying to be mean, just saying, it’s a weapon with two longstanding bugs that have yet to be fixed and severely limits the practicality of sword on ranger, ESPECIALLY on a dodge intensive fight like Lupicus.
(edited by Negativity.5801)
The dodge bug is a huge problem in the game, but that’s not really related to Lupicus or this warrior’s solid play.
Plus, it’s possible to avoid the dodge bug by turning off auto-attack because the bug is only caused when auto-attack and dodge trigger at nearly the exact same time.

There is a huge difference without Reckless Dodge. It literally pulls you back inside.

Why should “Reckless Dodge” allow you to exit the bubble when the trait is just supposed to add some damage at end of roll?
Or the other way around : why cannot you exit the bubble without the trait since it’s just supposed to add some damage at end of roll?
Anyway, something IS broken and needs investigating.
I seriously hope they are not investigating how they intended it to be. Because that’s all I’m asking.
Why should “Reckless Dodge” allow you to exit the bubble when the trait is just supposed to add some damage at end of roll?
That seems to be the issue at hand – is that wreckless dodge is cancelling out the behavior intended for the bubble.
(edited by Robert Hrouda.1327)
I would like this bubble to have the same mechanics as a guardian’s ring of warding.
I don’t care which way it gets changed, but I dodge to either work or not work on both
to be faceroll at the high levels, because it
needs to be accessible to the casuals and bads.
Why should “Reckless Dodge” allow you to exit the bubble when the trait is just supposed to add some damage at end of roll?
That.
Em, okay. So how are you supposed to get out of that when he uses it 4 times in a row? Because my skillset won’t allow me to survive that much focus.

I suppose Ring of Warding doesn’t deal huge damage while you are inside.

OP defensive skills perhaps? I don’t think I can do this reliably anymore if my dodge stops working.
But there is no difference with Reckless Dodge. The bubble does not “pull” you back inside. If the roll is done too far away or too close to the edge of the bubble, your character will hit the wall and gets knocked down on his/her butt (that might be what some people are confusing for a “pull”).
The mechanic works exactly like rolling through every other wall does. Position yourself so the roll will cross the wall during the immunity period, and you’ll get out of the bubble every time.
I roll out of the bubble 100 percent of the time as a Necromancer. I have my full Arah set, so this is as someone who has done Lupicus dozens of time. Honestly, I would be frustrated if I ever actually failed at rolling out of the bubble because it’s so easy now that I know the trick.
By the way, my husband, who plays Guardian, Mesmer, and Elementalist, is the same way. He never fails at rolling out of the bubble on any of his classes.
It’s kind of worrying developers are implying this isn’t intended because the bubble would be ludicrously over-tuned if it was impossible to roll out of it. If the fight was designed around the bubble being unavoidable, its damage is currently way too high.

I take stability, invulnerability and teleportation skills on other classes. Doesn’t mean you can handle 4 bubbles in a row. Bubbles should be dodgeable with good timing.

Yes, I’m talking about Necro.
Shame on you.

Could you do a short clip showing us how it’s done?

This is false. I did a write-up in this thread regarding the bug, where it occurs and how it occurs.
Turning off autoattack does not fix it, although it does make it less likely to happen.

I’ll try to see if I can put something together. I might not be able to make a video (crappy hard drive bogs down Fraps), but I should be able to at least make an graph showing how it’s done.

Yep, I disabled autoattacks and it still occurs though much rarely.

What I said is still accurate. With auto-attack off, players should be able to time their dodges so they don’t use them at the same time an attack goes off. If someone bugs his/her own roll, that’s something that could have been avoided with knowledge of how the bug works.
But I agree what I said was a little misleading.

Can you PLEASE, for the love of God, investigate the ACTUAL dodge roll bug that affects EVERY class in the game, and has been, for months? What good is dodging if it doesn’t even work properly and you end up not moving and eating damage? Oh, and it will still consume your stamina even though you don’t dodge and get hit by the damage. /facepalm

And since you mentioned trying to do this fight with a Ranger using a sword, perhaps you ought to investigate this issue next:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Ranger-Sword-Bugged-or-Working-As-Intended
Since using a 1H sword as a Ranger puts you into complete animation lock (auto-attacking), not allowing you to dodge at all, or even simply move your character around. It’s quite ridiculously that this hasn’t been fixed. Please…investigate these issues.

Idolicious, pretty much all of those are outside of Rob’s realm of influence. All he can really do is flail his arms about in a maddened dance at the people who can do something about it, and the bugs are already reported, so I doubt that’d do much. The only bug that Rob’s investigating is the nature of GL’s bubble wall being penetrated by Reckless Dodge and other on-dodge traits.

Em, thanks for tips about getting bonus to endurance but that wasn’t an issue. The issue is that some proffesion with specific traits can just dodge out of the necrid trap while others can’t (with a simple dodge).
But there is no difference with Reckless Dodge. The bubble does not “pull” you back inside. If the roll is done too far away or too close to the edge of the bubble, your character will hit the wall and gets knocked down on his/her butt (that might be what some people are confusing for a “pull”).

With Reckless Dodge I have never failed dodging forwards and I always get out even if I fail initial dodge (too early). Without Reckless Dodge all my ~5 attempts failed, no matter how close I was to wall. On my screen my dodge ends up outside bubble then I suddenly get pulled in.

Again, I don’t have an on-dodge trait, and I roll out of every single bubble.
But if this bug is that outside his realm of influence, then encounter design needs to be tuned until the bug is fixed. Until I turned off auto-attack, I died to the dodge bug constantly.

Not to sound like a kitten, but I really doubt it. At this point, I’ve rolled out of the bubble at least 30 to 40 times. My husband is probably in the same range. You have to be doing something wrong.
EDIT: No longer applies.

I can’t make a video, but I made this graphic on how to roll out of the bubble every time. Obviously, this isn’t to perfect proportions:
