This is by no means a perfect guide. I just wrote this up to give a small hint on how this boss can be dealt with.
Group composition: (My own group composition)
- 1 Ranger (Me)
- 1 Warrior
- 1 Thief
- 1 Mesmer
- 1 Engineer
Ranger:
The pet can be a hassle, but a ranger who knows how to use his/her pet can easily help guide the sparks into the correct spot. Although max 1 ranger is what I would suggest. (Reason explained bellow) Zephyr + swapping pets is an excellent way for a ranger to add tones of DPS onto the boss. I used sword/dagger as i can add poison while attacking. Also use poison traps! Frost spirit to boost the groups overall damage output by 20percent helps a lot!
Engi:
Engis have a lot of fun spells, but most important it has poisons and aoe damage. Plus an Engi in a dungeon? How much fun can a team have Keep note, Engis must NOT use turrets on this encounter, as the sparks will agro on the turrets.
Mesmer:
Has poison fields and Quickness ult. Speeds the team up and a perfect waterboy char;) Although an engi can also be the water boy, but with our group. Mesmer was the choice. Can also stack confusions etc. Mesmers MUST blow up all illusions during spark phase. It aggros sparks. Also, Mesmers can easily use portals to collect tears in a pinch! Combat portals ftw?
Thief:
Thief supports have 2 types of poison auras, not sure what they are called because my memory is terrible + I dont like playing thief;) What the poison basically did was stun + disabled the boss. This aura is cast on ALL party members around the thief, so it helps if everyone is grouped up around Dwayna and using melee, or close combat range;) Even whilst the boss has its 5 stacks. What ever they were called, that stops crowdcontrol, this aura goes right through it. Stunning the boss, and also reduces the amount of players being petrified per encounter. This may be a bug, but even if it was fixed. 4x players hitting the boss with quickness would easily take down the stacks that stop crowd control skills.
Warrior:
Just Dps, melee bash the boss but keep that ult up with banner when necessary! Insta res + other banners help a lot to increase overall dps!
Note:
By no means do I support groups with specific classes. Any class combinations can work through this encounter, but keep in mind. ALL class combinations MUST change their specs to meet the specific demands for this encounter. Tbh, you should always change specs and traits when you think something isnt right, or could help the team more. This is why I like gw2;) Just a side note! Consumables help a tone too. Just figure out which one to use. We obviously used the Powerfull potion of undead slaying as it increased our damage by 10percent vs Undeads.
We were not on any voice chat as a group. I was talking to the Mesmer about Disneyland as we did this encounter. This encounter is completely pugable.
Time taken to complete the whole path 4:
First attempt: 9h Failed
Second attempt: 7h Completed
- By no means is this boss easy, but once you figure it out it goes very fast. The fights last less than 10-15minutes if done right.
So there is 2 ways this encounter could be done.
Tactic 1
- Stockpile tones of tears by the water area outside the cave the statue is.
- 2 Players are spark boys/girls (They take care of the sparks inside the cave once they spawn)
- 1 Water boy/girl. Keeps check of any petrified players to chuck tears at.
- 2 Dpsers on the boss
How is this done?
1. You need to stockpile tears. 30-50.
2. Drag the boss out of the cave to the water area. Dragging the boss onto land helps see some of the AOE circles as they are hard to see whilst on the water.
3. Spark boys need to decide who goes for what spark when they spawn. And in which direction they will run around the statue when things go off plan.
4. Water boy must always unstun the dpsers. When the boss goes invis, make sure none of the dpsers are about to get stunned before you go collect more tears if necessary.
5. Dpsers must always cast poison on the boss after it goes invis and shoot at " Thin air". Poison stop the boss from gaining back life as fast even when invis. Attacking thin air also helps lower the regen rate. Or so it felt.
6. Continue this cycle 3 times. Once at 40-50percent, another time at around 20-25 and one last time at around 5-10percent. The times the boss goes invis seems to be based on a timer + hp percentage. Its possible to go past 30-50percent on the first phase if you mass dps + stun the boss as she goes invis. Delays the invis.
