I still think there is a simple way to retain the challenge/prestige of the raid without closing it off to everyone else – simply remove the enrage timer and replace it with the gold/silver/bronze system used in dynamic events and adventures. For example, on VG, beating the boss in less than 8 minutes would reward gold, less than 10 would reward silver and anything past 10 would reward bronze.

Simple solution that would open the experience/content to more people without taking away from the challenge and prestige top end raiders are looking for.

In order for prestige to accrue, the rewards would have to be available only for gold medals, with maybe some lesser rewards (e.g., champ bags) for silver and bronze. Since most complaints about lack of access are really about not getting the rewards…

They add all of these new stat sets to the game, then not only force people to use zerker for raids because of the timer, but also force certain classes as well. So you are a zerk dps or condi engineer, other than that bugger off…Remove the timer and let people form groups with whom they wish. The mechanics are fun and challenging enough without timer. At the very least make the time limit doable for more class-build combos.

Full zerker/viper Teams beat Bosses with multiple minutes left on the Timer, you are nowhere near forced to bring certain Professions/Gear and even then the enrage isn’t even a hard enrage (except gorseval).

im not saying there should be no timer, but you have to realize the difference in full zerker/viper teams dps and defensive teams dps is more than 50%

However, i will say that people missed the point if they thought there would ever be a situation in which its better to have more than two tanky charachters in a fight. Even in other MMOs you never see a 40% tanky charachter group encounter.

If they were going to do that, theyd probably have to increase the depth of tanking fairly drastically.

I posted this idea in another thread before:

Don’t remove the timer but instead of making it a “soft wipe” you tie the rewards to it.

Here’s the example for the Vale Guardian fight:

  • Kill the Vale Guardian with >1 min on the clock: Superior rewards.
  • Kill the Vale Guardian with <1 min on the clock: Regular rewards.
  • Kill the Vale Guardian after the timer: No rewards but you can go to the next boss.

This way more people can experience the entire content (which is why a lot a people complain atm) while keeping the new raid rewards (legendary armor, minis, etc.) exclusive to those who earned them.

It’s a good solution imo since it satisfies both hardcore and casual raiders while being simple enough for Anet to implement.

They’d also need to think about the Gorseval DPS breakpoints if they implement it though.

I – and many others – could really care less about the rewards. Let the gold provide significantly better than the lesser tiers. I just want a larger percentage of my guild to have the opportunity to experience the content.

There are a lot of benefits to a gold, silver, bronze system that extend beyond just the simple timer system. Imagine if gold were also tied to other objectives, such as not letting X number of adds get to the boss or other skill based fight components. It opens the developers up to base difficulty on more than just arbitrary timers.

And again, it has nothing to do with rewards.

Every PUG I joined so far to have an overview of how good they perform doesn’t wipe due to the enrage timer. Maybe there are some out there but these few will reach their goal soon.
It’s more (all) about the mechanics.

Took me 3 runs of the dungeon to get the bug.

Good for you! I’ll believe that about the population in general when I see it.

I can only speak for my guild.

The reality is it looks good in a press release when they can say “look at our ultra difficult content that only X% of the players can beat,” but the reality is they could easily include that same content and – through the reward system they already have in place in other parts of the game – make it more accessible to a greater section of players.

They choose not to for publicity reasons. It really is the only explanation.

And, again, so there are no misunderstandings, I have no issue with it being eye bleeding hard. I will still tackle (and beat) it. Im just saying that I would love to be able to experience it with some of my less serious in game friends. There is a way to do that without taking ANYTHING away from the more elite players’ experience.
