LF1m is the only way I’ve found groups that can dungeon. Especially at the lower levels and story modes.

And theya re right I shouldnt have to find a third party site… Why cant you have a interface similar to the one in pvp?? That way you can register your intent and people can join you while still roaming..

Lately I’ve been seeing more people who stick their account name, not character name, into the character name box. I can’t invite/join group without a character name.

Yet another problem an in-game dungeon finder wouldn’t have.

normally all use of thirdparty program or service’s is prohobited and bannable in the eula.
long explanation short, if that is also the case here(i havent been able to find the eula again to quote from it but normally it always states the same) they would have a valid reason to ban us for using any thirdparty “services” if they so choose….
them asking us to find a thirdparty to try to solve the issue is completely baffeling.
almost as much as them not having an lfg system in a social game o.O

Also, think about the Dungeon Finder situation for a moment. Right now there is a perfectly usable and efficient LFG tool (aww you have to alt tab to use it, so what? Pressing those two keys is super difficult…That’s what the “Windowed Fullscreen” resolution option is for), so ANet has two options available to them:

1. Put their own LFG tool on the backburner while they work out some bugs/mechanics that need immediate attention as well as work on pushing new content sooner.
2. Work on an LFG tool to replace the one that already works and as a result fix bugs and push new content at a slower pace.

It seems pretty common sense that for the moment ANet should focus on other more important issues before they tackle an LFG tool. The delay also probably means that ANet will be adding pretty features to their own LFG tool when it is released.

Instead of ranting and raving about how tough your life is, why don’t you take action to make it better yourself? Dungeons are incredibly easy to get groups for, and if you really and truly cannot find a group after 10 hours then the problem is 100% your own. Just today I have run 9 or 10 dungeons (mix of CoF, HotW, and Arah), and many of those runs were completely with PuGs who only stayed for 1 or 2 paths.

If you just shout “LFG _XYZ dungeon"_ every minute or two in LA then of course it is going to take you a while to get a group. Instead try the following:


1. Find yourself a guild that does dungeons regularly. We can be in multiple guilds in this game so even if you are already in a guild of friends who don’t do dungeons you can still join another guild and only rep them when you are LFG.

2. Use GW2LFG. It is a magnificent and safe site. Post your own LFG and also check it regularly for anyone else who is LFG. If you have a smartphone then don’t hesitate to get the GW2LFG app (this would also fix your precious alt-tab problem).

3. Shout your recruitment in both LA and the map of your desired dungeon, and of course pay attention to other people who are looking for groups.

4. Actively look for other players outside of map chat such as players you have run with previously, friends, players in the dungeon zone who may not be looking at map chat, etc.

5. As much as your schedule allows, try to get dungeon groups during peak server hours. Trying to get a dungeon going during off-hours will be enormously more difficult than during peak.

6. Guest onto other high pop servers and broadcast your LFG in their LA and map chats.

Above all, be proactive! Don’t just sit there hoping other players will do the LFG work for you.

If you really and truly follow the above guidelines you will have a group within an hour no problem (unless you’re going for Arah; many players avoid that dungeon so getting a group can be a bit more difficult regardless of the quality of LFG tool). Don’t forget you can quest/farm/WvW/sPvP/etc while looking for groups.

Ugh kitten I had so many people tell me otherwise and claim they couldn’t get into the instance because I was in the group. This was two separate groups, plus several people outside the instance.

I guess I’ll give it another shot next weekend if I get a chance to play uninterrupted for a few hours

I guess I’m just daft, this is my first MMO experience and I’m lost trying to find a group. I can’t seem to communicate in game with anyone already in a group. I stand outside of dungeons for a period of time with my LFG on, and I post txt bubbles when there are characters standing around. Everyone seems to be waiting for group members. I’ve also done the same in Lions’ Arch. So, since Prism pointed out that this is 100% my fault, I guess I’d like something more constructive than what I’ve already been doing. What do I need to do after I go to gw2lfg? Do I go in game and try to email or contact the person listing the group request??? If it was just posted, do I just go to the dungeon, lift my skirt a bit and stick my leg out? — I really don’t get the social aspects of these games.

I find the easiest way to get a group is to ask my guild. If no one in your guild does dungeons, you should look for a guild that does (remember that you can be in both guilds).

this is sooo stupid…
we have a lfg on teh website(which btw is on the edge of legal as a third party service in the eula), we have tried to find a group ingame in the map chats, but after 4 shouts its 10+min suppression and cant write anything in chat.

whoever made this design should be instantly fired.

i have been gaming for over 20years now and i have never ever encountered a system even remotely close to this bad.
gw2 is 100% relying on people grouping up and doing stuff and there is NO WAY! in game to do this effectively, even trying to ask for group in chat is restricted crazily thereby preventing group play..

it is baffeling that some one could be so “special” as to not include an lfg system in game, when the game is 100% relying on such a system to work perfectly(only game i have encountered that is as relying on it is D&D online which had an awesome lfg system).. and we dont even have one that works at all, we dont even have the start of it. and the devs refuse to make one…

how can these devs still be hired when they are this bad and this far from reality?!

even worse the devs is just Dead quite, not a word in AGES!!! on this extreme issue, they are just hiding there heads hoping this will just dissapier, apparently they are so far from reality that they dont realise that the only way this issue dissapier is when there is no more people left in the game to even make 1 group….

I call 100% BS on you. However having said that I’m pretty sure you are going to just skim through my post in your hurry to hit the reply button and start flaming me, so please do everyone a favor and actually read the below (and also please read my previous post) before you waste your own time with half-thought rage arguments. =)

First of all the website is nowhere near “the edge of being legal”. ANet has specifically encouraged its use (which is what this whole thread started as).

Secondly the suppression is only if you use exactly the same message over and over. Change it slightly and you’ll be all set. Maybe next time you’ll try new things before you start crying.

Third there is no way you have been playing MMOs for those 20 years if you honestly believe this system to be the worst. Clearly you never played early EQ, EQ2, or WoW because the party finding methods in those games were pretty much limited to calling up your RL friends and telling them to log in.

The only thing about GW2 that requires parties is dungeons, and the people like you who cannot find groups are the vast minority. You may think it is impossible to find groups but the simple fact is you are wrong. Finding groups even without a guild is incredibly easy if you actually put the work in. As I’ve said multiple times simply broadcasting LFG is not putting the work in. You need to be proactive about finding a group. Read my earlier post about tips on finding a group.

Finally, there really is no way you have been gaming for 20 years if you think devs respond to crying babies like you. The lack of an LFG in game is not a serious issue and the devs know it, so there is no reason for them to make the minority of players like you feel better. ArenaNet has better things to do than be your mommy and give you petty reassurances on problems that are mostly your fault.

Whatever your arguments are, the bare bottom line is that if you cannot find a group then it is 100% on you. You have all the tools needed to find competent dungeon groups and recruiting players is actually very easy.

Prism, please delete your whiny immature posts, my brain hurts from reading them. We’re not the ones crying, you are.

If weeding through spam chat in LFG is easy for you, and making groups “within an hour” is acceptable then just stfu and do that. Other people want a better solution, and it’s “on them” to keep pushing for a better solution if that’s what they want. Responsible devs do listen, Arenanet responded well during beta but not enough people reached the level to test dungeons and provide quality feedback during that time. I’m actually quite shocked at their lack of response to this issue post release.

Also, look into sPvP. You need groups for PvP instances too and there’s already a system in place to group people together, or join specific instances. We’re only asking for something similar for dungeons so we don’t have to spam in Lion’s Arch.

Read the eula, know the rules:
ANY!!!! Use of ANY third part programs or SERVICES! Blablabla…
Now we can agree that the website offers a service, so technical it’s against the eula, anet allows it and they have encouraged it, but technically it’s against the rules, because it’s a service that interact ingame.
Since they have allowed the use of this I am saying its on the EDGE of what is legal for us to do. If anet wanted to they could say “you can use this specific hack or these bots” and they would be just as legit as using this service when anet have stated that these specific once where legal.

Use the same 4 times, then got suppressed for over 10min, and the others had to keep the search up after that (since I couldn’t really be kittened trying every 2 min to check If I could write now.) (and I know how to change it have done it forever, no matter how I changed it even rewrote with a completely different words besides “Arah” (even used part x instead of px) still the same suppression.)
This is in itself not a bad system since it is made to prevent spammers of unintended stuff, but now when missing an lfg system it is HIGHLY damaging to the group finding process.

Approximately I have used 65.000+ hours on gaming in my life… and that’s shooting low to insure for the days I have been sick, to family stuff, exams, school stuff etc. things you HAVE to do.
Majority of those have properly gone on mmo’s

In the older mmo’s party finding wasn’t as important nor such a integrated system of our games as it is today.
Neither where the games designed in such a manner that the focus was on grouping just to have fun.
They were all focused on giving the feeling of achievement, which kept the players grinding for hours without end for that little extra boost to their items.
Even back in the DAOC time we had a decent way to find groups(for its time), and that pretty far back and the focus in the games where quite a bit different then some games today and especially GW2 that takes the crown for none gear progression and base it on purely cosmetic which basically removes the reason to play just to gear, and focus it on playing to play with other people (which is very different from almost any other mmo you see out there, this is basicly only existing in FPS’s at this point)
Therefore a group system is essential for it’s survival, we don’t even have a world chat, we got a ZONE chat as our BEST option -.-

I did not say it was impossible, I said it consumed WAY!!!! Too much time and brought a WAY too high annoying factor into it while promoting solo play incredibly much, especially considering it is a game with a game design which is focused 100% on TEAMWORK!.
Every event, every “mission”, everything you can basicly do is made to be done by more PLAYERS and not meand to be soloed (only the solo story can be discussed here, which is a really minor part of the game), even so there is no way to group up fast and effectively with the people which wanna do what you wanna do, so that it puts more social aspects in the game, the entire event system might as well have been replaced with npc’s only allied with decent ai and then an instance based system like gw1. Since that is what it brings us and as soon as you hit max lvl you will see that the people needed to do the good stuff are first of all not easily available when you wanna do it, secondly they are anything but used to grouping or communicating, and you will have to build your entire social network up from the bottom at endgame content instead of doing it while lvling and getting to know people you function well with. This in return brings you into situations where you have to play with people you function badly with in an environment made for organized groups which played together over a longer period of time (and in reverse if you HAVE to balance the content around the opposite you will see when people get those organized groups that the content is rolfstomp easy and gets boring very fast. Or a middle thing where no one is happy.)

Finding a PUG group should NOT!!!! Repeat NOT!!! Require work in a game which is designed 100% around people playing together!. That’s like saying “to learn to dance you need to put WORK! Into getting to the dance school, NO not about the actual training nope but really WORK! To actually even locate the kitten school, which btw will be continually moving every time for a good long while”….
Don’t you see how broken that statement is in itself? Are you really that narrowminded…. kitten it is impossible to discuss something this simple with a person like you if you don’t even get the most basic 101!!!!! About designing ANYTHING!….

Btw I never played wow much, never liked the grahic nor the feel of it, but from my understanding from friends that played it ever since beta, it had a very good group system and it got a GREAT dungeon system added later on which not only allowed people to find the group through it but instantly teleport to it, making it even easier and better and added bonuses for accepting pugs.

If you are that “narrowminded” that you really think the lack of the MAIN!! Most important feature in the entire game design is not important, then there is seriously no saving you and you should just …. You know…

A game designed 100% around teamplay and people playing together (which is PROVED by the design of EVERY event, dungeon, boss etcetcetc. In this game. And especially the drop system with the item stats so easy to acquire).
The main focus of such a game is to PLAY TOGETHER!! Now you say that in such a game “it is of no importance that the players will have to WORK!!!! To find others to play with! Since we all know its awesome to have to WORK! Before we can actually have fun, since that’s why we are playing a game, to WORK! To do basic small features.”

You know what: I think the game should be designed so that when you login EVERY TIME you login the game you will have to do a minigame with a random website you need to find and answer some riddle and if you answer it correct you can now use your mouse, if not try again. And the same goes for the keyboard in another riddle, and then when you get on you will need to do a jump puzzle to unluck the use of your gear. Since you have to WORK! To be able to play the game as it was designed and we all want it like that ..

THIS as described is exactly what you are promoting and what you are saying should be in the game……. And you can’t even understand why that is a bad design…..
Seriously we are done here then, there is no way we would EVER agree..
I believe people should be allow to actually PLAY!!! The game and you believe they should be forced to WORK! Before they get the ability to play the actual game….
That’s where we are completely going pass each other and will never get into an agreement.

that is actually a great argument xD didnt even think of that

WHY is it that there is this system for tpvp and spvp but not for dungeons?!
it’s the exact same requirement, is doesnt they need to do the exact same ting?. why is there an auto group system?

if its becosue anet thinks the right way to go with groups is without a lfg system then remove the system from spvp and tpvp and see how fast arena pvp will DIE when people gotta find 5 players to group up with prematurely on both sides instead of automatically getting this given to them.
then split them all up so that they need a different zone to shout on groups for depending on which arena they wanna do -.-
yer this is a “great” design worthy of even the biggest frogs…… (sarcasm)…

What is worse than having to spam map chat lfg like a gold seller is trying to get a group for story mode(and I hate reading them myself). I logged on Sunday afternoon to hit a group of 3 others for TA story right away. Then my ISP shuts down for a few minutes and by the time i log back in i was kicked from the party. I spent the next 2 hours finding 2 people between caledon forest and LA to have them quit due to the lack of interest. I find it incredibly hard to believe that there are not 5 people playing GW2 that don’t want to do a dungeon. What is worse is that you have to wait multiple hours to do the dungeon and then a couple of actually doing it to get incredibly lackluster rewards for the time invested (maybe a level, karma, gold that you could all get better solo in any area in the same amount of time). I find it an abomination for a MASSIVELY multiplayer online game that you can’t find a group of 5 in a few hours in game. And NO I WILL NOT USE THIRD PARTY SERVICES FOR SOMETHING THE GAME I PAID FOR SHOULD PROVIDE. In no way is it an immersive experience for me to tab out of the game. It is a complete cop out to say that you should use something else and post it in a sticky. Shame on the devs for doing this and not stating how/when they should will fix this. I have seen better feedback on FOV and UI posts than something this integral to the game. Anet has been vocal about fixing the DC issue for FOTM. Everyone loves the new FOTM dungeon, and is looking forward to the fix for disconnects, but you are completely ignoring this current and persisting issue and adding new content instead. It really isn’t that hard to do. Put a menu at the dungeon master for story and exploration mode interest with character level, character type, and story/p1/p2/p3 (level for FOTM). Add a dungeon tab to your contacts to see who is on the dungeon list (server wide) you subscribe to so you can whisper them for a group and then manually or dungeon start remove your name from the list in the contacts menu. This game really does nothing to help a solo player group in high level PVE or tournament PVP and that is why the community gives rightful negative feedback in large amounts. Dungeon runs in HM in GW1 were easier than this because you could group with your heroes, but that is not an option here-so sad.

i will add however that this is a persistent problem in ALL part of the games for ANYONE which enjoys playing MULTIPLAYER games and not just solo playing with active npc’s running around.

an actual lfg system is needed and its easy to make and get to funktion ingame..

as it is now there is absolutely no social interaction in the game before lvl 80 -.- which turns alot of players away from the game becouse they play mmos to have fun and learn to know other people

personally i would like compensation for my time wasted in the game and not just refunds..

i also find it extremely insulting to the community and a kick in the balls saying “we dont care even the tiniest bit about you” when something this importent and SO EASY to implement and program isnt made yet and there is no official plans to make it… its a direct offense and its laugheble that whoever is in charge of this still got a job at any company within the game market.

You don’t speak for the community. And as I don’t feel insulted by ArenaNet and am not looking for compensation, you certainly don’t speak for me. Seems like you’re trying to be some sort of community mouthpiece of the ‘lfg issue’ just because you happen to be in agreement with a handful of other people in a forum. You never got my vote. Also, I don’t think you really have any concept on how easy — or not — something is to code, especially in regards to GW2’s systems. So… yeah. Your rhetoric is pretty silly.

Should they implement a more robust LFG system? Yes. Are people overreacting much to the limitations of the current system? In my view, absolutely. If this is the issue that’s the game breaker for ya, maybe go try Minesweeper. Or solitaire. Because anything more complex is just gonna kitten you off, I reckon.

The only easy way out would be to link the website just like the black lion trading post is linked. (as in it’s on a different server and works like the LFG website)
Now it’s not easy to implement in any other shape or form because whatever they would implement people would still be unhappy
- auto dungeon finder (they party me up with newbs! I don’t like it!)
- channel for finding a dungeon (would end up being clustered to hell)

If you don’t like the game, you already got a considerable amount of hours put in enjoying other content, so as far as games go, you got your money’s worth. If you weren’t enjoying the game, you could have seeked a refund earlier. Nobody forces you to play, therefore nobody has to pay you for it.

I think that a “dungeon Finder” is a must in the game.

especially after the implementation of Fractals of the Mists.

But i dont think that we gonna see in this patch, we may see some changes to the LFG design in the game and maybe a channel only for that, well because you cant search in the /M chat.

Just saying, I wouldn’t have rushed to buy it if I knew it was a lvl to 80 and quit from boredom sort of game. I could have waited for it to be on sale and I wouldn’t have bought deluxe. Usually the time leveling in an MMO is an investment in playing the end game, the story line in GW2 was decent, but I could buy any single player rpg to get the same leveling experience that I got in GW2 without the trade broker issues and world transfer problems that plagued the first few weeks. Not having thought out a real end-game for an MMO is just not acceptable, and their lack of response makes me wish I put my time into something else.

Now that this thread has been unstickied, and there’s been absolutely no dev response to months of repeated request for some sort of fix to the issue there’s really no reason to continue wanting to play. If any dev even mentioned in the slightest that something was in the works then I might feel like my time was justified and there’s a future in GW2 for me, but as it stands I’m not going to invest any more time in weeding through chat spam just to get a taste of end game if there’s no fix in sight.

and yes the system which would be best would be an ingame system working much like the lfg site, you post your massage, people ingame no matter the place can look at ALL post and search for specific dungeons, area’s, event etc, they can “right click” and choose join.

furthermore the ability to set minimum lvl req etc. would be much appriciated as well

we wouldnt have bought it at all. but since we did and since we wasted so much time on it we have invested so much time in the game that we might as well keep on playing untill the next mmo comes out… soo wondering how many players will actually be back after that, already now the game is like a ghost town on alot of maps and it diffinately does not give new players incentive to stat playing.

find it unlikely they would suddenly put in an lfg system when they havent even indicated ANY interest for doing so and at the earlier discussions of this issue they stated that they had no intention of putting this in and that they couldnt see a use for it -.-

Yea, the devs have the sPvP “game browser” that they could for the most part copy/paste with some minor changes, and the gw1 system to use as a foundation for something in gw2, a rough version could be made up in a few hours and polished up within a week.

if you got no coding experience you shouldn’t be speaking about the time and difficulty of implementing anything…. which you clearly do not have.
an lfg system would be one of the easier thing to implement into gw2.

and i finished my bachalor few years ago.

well we seem to be in agreement of how +- it should work in princip, but not quite the way to do it..
i dont believe an auto group system would be good at all, contrary it will again remove the freedom of the player and force them in a way which is rarely wanted.

we could easily add both. and actually the spvp system could be used pretty easily as the base for making an lfg type system but where you post yourself etc.

in any case both could be added but as a minimum we need a basic lfg you can see the post from any zone your in and press join group

I was referencing the interface and that they would want other similar interfaces to be standardized across the game. I have a link earlier in this thread to another post I made on the suggestion forums with minor changes they would have to make for it to work for lfg, but in any case they would want the interfaces to have a similar standardized look so it looked like a natural addition to the game.

Then there’s QA, which again has to be scheduled by another manager and made to fit into an already crunched schedule. And then, oh kitten, feature Y causes a server crash in QA. Everyone into meeting room 7 so we can whiteboard a work around for THAT issue now too. Who wrote that? Oh, Billy is stuck on another project that’s higher priority, so Frank is going to have to come up to speed on that section of code first.

Yeah, a week. LOL.

the top of the line one that would be best will take time yes, and likely a month or more.

but the game needs something and implementing something like a tab which mimics GW2LFG which alows us to click to join the LFM group or click to invite from the LFG tab could easily be done in a week. would this quick thing be final end of discussion LFG tool? absolutly not, but it gets something ingame that can be modified later and would satisfy 95% of the players. This could be done in a day with the rest of the week left to test to see if it results in some unexpected bugs/crashes

we can all rejoice! the post that they made today updating their plans for 2013 finally lists improvements to the LFG tool! what those will be is yet to be determined but its nice to see the improvement on their radar now!

there is a LFG tool but the only problem is that in its current form it does absolutely nothing. so any improvement at this point is a good thing

It’d take way longer than a week to implement a proper LFG. A week wouldn’t even cover the meetings to discuss ways to implement it. And then even after the implementation has been set, a manager has to schedule out how many dev hours it takes, fit that into the project schedule and then watch as devs get sidetracked by the latest Emergency Gotta Fix It Now™ issue that crops up and sidetracks his devs and causes project goals to slip schedule.

And when the devs do get to work on it nobody took into consideration how Tom(who left the company months ago) designed element X to talk with protocol Y and things aren’t working out like everyone had hoped. So either more hours have to be committed or it’s back to the drawing board to find a work around.

i know the first 5 programmers by the top of my head which could make this implementation in easily in LESS then a week -.-
it doesn’t get much more simple then this… its implementing a system to allow you to post a massege on a board which you can access in all zones, which when you right click will have linked the name to the name of the person posting it, with a remove function added that removes it when its full or cancelled….. it’s something so crazily simple and easy…

actually there is a bottom called “looking for group” under “contacts” it doesnt work for anything but its there…. and have been since early beta

Gw2lfg is the last place I look for members.

First I ask my guild. I know these people.

Second, I ask in map chat. I want to get to know and play with people on Kaineng.

Finally, I will ask on gw2lfg. I will probably never see these guys again.
