Stacking and using line of sight are tactics older than modern era. They are combat strategies not exploits. So is kiting, skipping and other combat-avoiding tactics.
Also you use all of these in your WvW crazy adventure times. Using choke points is a great example of stacking. Running past/from big groups because they will own you is another.
On a happier note, you are actually allowed to make your on LFG post with whatever you want.
By the way, the hacking console thing being an exploit was funny so GG on that.

I wasn’t making any assumptions or generalizations regarding other dungeons. I was just explaining my personal experience with the one dungeon I did stack in. I’m also not saying that stacking is horrible or anything of the sort. It’s not my preferred playstyle, is all.

And I didn’t make assumptions regarding dungeon design. I enjoy watching and reading up on video games, as a whole, and happened across a video interview between IGN and Kevin Miller regarding dungeons (published Aug 2012). It was a specific interview done while showing off Twilight Arbor.

And I do have fun running dungeons. To each their own… but I think it’s important to understand that everyone enjoys different things about any MMO.

I think its important to realize that the designers showing off their content in an interview is going to be pretty laid back. Notice for instance the pov player equiping a rare level bow. They also spend more time on mobs to explain the mechanics of dungeon mobs, and other similar stuff.

Its also important to understand that the dungeons have been out a year and a half with little/no change. We are on full farm mode on them because there is little reason to do them except personal satisfaction (often derived from Speed clears, but also by other stuff like naked runs or solo/duos) and in game currency rewards. If you wanted to play like when the game first came out, you probably should have played more back then because its not going back to that. The mechanics of the game are pretty well understood, as are the most optimal rotations for the various class and builds out there.

I agree with you.

There’s a valid reason why I solo dungeons now. It’s the only way to make the content challenging.

So, some people can’t have fun in dungeons, because some other people want to stack in a corner, yes?

some people have problems…

A group I was in the other day kept stacking and dying on Spider in AC…

After several fails, I suggested we attempt the boss normally, no stacking. This idea prompted questions like “Are you CRAZY??” and “WTF?”; my party did not agree.

Well, after getting our kitten handed to us several more times, they decided to give up stacking and fight her in the big room like I previously suggested…

We won easily, first try.

Sure, It may have taken 20% longer, but at least we didn’t end up as a pile of bodies. When you actually have room to breathe, skill becomes a factor, rather than standing in a corner spamming buttons; hoping your HP is high enough to soak up the next big boss attack.

How in gods name did they mess up the spider stack? It’s simple. Don’t move out of corner. And actually have dps. Profit?

They can also try wall dodging. That is the point of using the pillar after all.

Fiery greatsword #4 in a corner stack, ogod those numbers. That’s where the fun are at.

Oh and, getting wiped or wasting such a long time for such petty rewards are not fun.

Totally agree with you OP. I don’t run dungeons in this game for that very reason. It just feels cheesy and exploitive. Hopefully the up coming changes to AI will address this issue or I will continue to avoid dungeons. (I really like dungeons in other games)

It’s at least more fun than wasting time on an encounter you’ve done 1000 times already.

1. Dodge the huge wind up bite attack
2. Bring condi clear for if you happen to miss a dodge
3. ????
4. Profit

Or, if you refuse to dodge, just have a good guardian chain a few aegis. use your heal skill. If you have FGS use the evade. The only way you can fail this boss is if you stand totally still and tank 25 stacks of bleeding. If you refuse to use any utilities or dodge then yah, kiting the boss around and walking out of aoes may be your only option. But lets not pretend that’s a better solution then playing semi competently.

Screw it. From now on the only dungeons I’ll be running will be story mode with noobs
…….

Am I the only one who hates the way gw2 is evolving?

Ah, I hate it when people stack to skip content. The goal/reward is just the incentive and not the actual fun of the game. The fun lies in the content.

I always bring at least a few guildies whenever I do a dungeon, partly because they don’t stack. I suggest you do the same.

I do find this modern dungeon culture to be extremely alienating.

Where I used to navigate dungeons fairly intuitively, now I feel like a complete noob because I don’t know all the exploits and tricks people use to run the dungeons as smoothly as possible.

I don’t really fault people for resorting to these tricks. After all if you’re doing dungeons regularly you want them done as efficiently as possible.

But this can’t be working as intended and it’s really not as fun as it could be, you know when dungeons were about more than stacking and spaming.

How is stacking skipping the content? I mean you still fight the same mobs, still get attacks applied against you, and get the same dings for dungeon completion (after all, most stacks are used when real skipping isn’t possible). Sure you end up clearing the content faster, but that is because you are making max use of cleaves and aoes and powerful defensive skills that cause blinds/aegis/reflect ect and can dodge all the mobs attacks at once since they are in the same spot. Get rid of evade frames on dodges and skills and you might see less of it, yeah, not going to happen.

it’s really not as fun as it could be, you know when dungeons were about more than stacking and spaming.

I’m not calling you out specifically; you’re just the last person to echo the topic title. But I want to point out: for some of us, stacking really is more fun. For me, for instance. I play games because I want to trivialize them. That’s what’s fun for me. Good games for me are ones that can’t be fully trivialized, and will still provide a challenge no matter how well I’m playing and no matter how well I understand and exploit the mechanics.

I know that’s not what everyone gets from games. That’s cool. And it’s not the only thing I enjoy in games. I like good stories and good characters (not that Anet has ever produced either of those). Still, some games aren’t for me. (Elder Scrolls games are too easy to completely trivialize, for instance, for me to enjoy them for very long.) Some content in GW2 isn’t for me. Some groups aren’t for me. That’s great. It means that GW2 is catering to a wide audience with diverse and disparate interests.

(Well, actually, they’re not catering very well at all to the dungeon audience, but oh well.)

Just remember: there isn’t some objective notion of fun out there, one that automatically rules out stacking. Different strokes and all that.

Colin Johanson: "Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.

There are two things some players need to differentiate :

-Stacking because it allows your skills to hit all enemies/allies. Which is normal.

-Stacking at a certain place because there’s a bug/bad design that prevents some attacks from hitting you. That’s exploiting. And you don’t get good players with that. You get terrible idiots who act high and mighty and QQ at the first sign of difficulty in new content.
