ex – The Midnight Syndicate [Dark]
Maguuma
So admittedly my first time running this was last night, I despise this dungeon, but I’m not going to stop because my guildies need me. We got smoked on every boss fight (except husk, what a joke) and I know its probably not because the dungeons are overtuned, but simply due to a lack of experience.
We all know about the blossom rally mechanic, so theres that. But I was just looking for some experienced insight into how to make the bosses more manageable. Running on my mesmer I have an AoE cleanse on short CD so that helped, but the Wurm, Vevina, and the Nightmare Tree just rocked us a few times. So what are your tips for this one.
As a mesmer I find it easier to deal with the worms in melee range using sword/sword or sword/pistol and time distortion for when the worm does his aoe thing. It’s harder when you have aggro from any other nearby worms though in which case I tend to hide behind something and use greatsword when I can, using nearby flowers to rally.
As for the trees, again you can use greatsword for slows, knockdown. Use stability mantra to get up if they knock you down faster, blink can help here too or of course distortion.
As for Vevina, She’s a tricky one but as a mesmer you should be able to spot what she’s doing. When she’s got her bubble up she’s reflecting damage so don’t attack her if she has it up. Dodge out of aoe and cleanse any confusion or other damaging spells with nullfield and mantra of resolve. (Three time mantra trait in full domination trait line can be useful here).
Try spread out as much as you can so the chaos storm doesn’t stack on top of everyone (I know it’s an enclosed space). Either way deal with the tree adds first before focusing on Vevina. I can’t remember if Feedback helps with her or not but you can always give it a shot. Be careful with using timewarp if she has reflection on herself or if you have confusion.
As for the tree I can’t really recall which one is on that path, if its the one with the seed turrets, ignore them except for the healing seeds and any nearby turrets. Best stay ranged on this one. If you’re Asura use poison field on the nightmare tree when he’s got healing up.
I don’t play a phantasm build or use scepter much so I couldn’t really give much advice with those playstyles but it’s all about controlling your enemy and preventing damage.
As for the bees, you can dodge them to remove the debuff :P

Group comp you’re running?

After running TA enough times for 2 armor sets, FU is probably the hardest of all the paths (bees and bosses). With the wyrm, there’s a “safe spot” on the left side behind the root. Depending on where the boss is facing you can sometimes hit it from there, if not you can back up and heal up. Most of the time the other vines won’t hit you.
Vevina is much easier as melee (I’m a mesmer) just because the auto attack won’t actually hit her when she has chaos armor up. Hitting her when she has that shield up is brutal, you can easily dodge chaos storm without much damage, but hitting her with chaos armor up is a sure way to get killed if she targets you with that ranged damage of hers. Bring lots of condition removal for the confusion, and when she reappears out of steath roll away, she aoes right on the spot.
The tree is just untuned garbage. The “way” to do this is to have every stand at ranged and do absolutely no aoe attacks, so you don’t aggro the spiders. Basically auto attack and roll out of the way, boring as hell fight. The respawn on the spiders is just too fast, there are too many, and there is too much health for you to deal with on top of trying to dps the tree.
If your guild is deadset on getting the TA armor without having to deal with crap, I recommend doing Up and then FF (only hard part about FF is the last pull+ boss). 130ish tokens a day isn’t bad and they should have the entire set within 1 and a half weeks.
Nah, forward, forward is much harder than forward, up. Ideally, if you’re going to farm the place, up, up is best though.
As for strategy, when you fight the mesmer bossdo this:
– Kill the two adds asap.
– keep the npc up with heals as much as you can since she tanks a good bit of damage.
– Move out of Chaos Storms asap (of course).
– Bring condition removal.
– Stop attacking when you have 2 or more stacks of confused on you.
– Strip any boons from the boss whenever she gets any.
– If you’re taking damage when attacking her, don’t attack.
Follow these rules and it’s not too bad. If you’re wiping, then someone isn’t doing this.
For the bees, just have one or two people who are comfortable with the run go up without the rest of your group past the bees to aggro the pups. This will disable the bees so the rest of your group can come. If you do this yourself, start on the left side and move slowly up and to the right by moving to the gaps between traps.
For the last boss:
– Start pulling spiders as slowly as possible.
– Focus the spider adds one at a time and kill them until there is a clear spot in front of the tree.
– Once the front of the tree is clear of adds, have everyone use a ranged weapon with NO AOE and attack the boss.
– At this point, the fight is incredibly easy. The only thing to look out for is to dodge when the tree shakes from side to side as this is when it throws bad stuff at you.
And that’s it. Once you get the hang of it, this dungeon is really manageable.
Awesome tips guys. I have noticed that at times the varios bosses were cake, but the first few times were wipefests. We were running an alt party so all squishies haha. Group comp was mesmer, ranger, ele, necro, and engie.
