Good damage for some time plus it gets rid of swarms during p1 nicely. I don’t really need 3rd defensive utility. If warrior can take frenzy, why ele couldn’t take something offensive?

Lol. I thought the only thing Lightning hammer is good for is jumping over maps with Lightning Leap (2). Never thought about using it to deal damage.

I only use that build (or something similar) when I’m soloing things. It is pretty terrible anywhere else IMO.

For everything else I go 10-30-20-0-10 but could easily take out mug and have 20 in trickery.

Ahh I see you used focus. I’m trying to do that with D/D. Focus I know it would make it easier with swirling winds/magnetic wave/obsidian flesh.

That means: Im pretty sure it is possible. I’ve been duo’ing GL for quite a while with 2 eles, farming path 3.

Necromancers have 0 utilities. That’s why it would be difficult for them to fight GL.
Fighting this boss is not about damage, but it’s about the capability to dodge/evade
all/most of his attacks. Necromancers no way of obtaining Vigor. They don’t have IMMUNITY, and at most, they have Stability, but they would need all 30 points put into Soul Reaping. They also do not have any abilities with hidden dodge or movement.
At most, they can teleport with a Worm, but it will most likely (over 90% of the time) die from the AoE. Plus, using it will kill the Worm. We have ZERO endurance gains.

Elementalists have lots of Utility, healing, and survivability. I can see the possibilities here. I don’t think anyone is unaware of their large potentials in all areas of the game.

Engineers have lots of Blinds + Blocking. I’m not sure if they have Stability or movement utility spells. This could be up for debate.

Still waiting on a response for this.

It won’t reflect any lupi’s projectiles because they explode upon a contact.

Necromancers have Deathshroud which will consume quite much damage in the fight.
Endurance gain via Sigil of Energy, like other professions. Stability isn’t a requirement to do Lupicus, it just helps in the case he uses his bubble. Keep pushing him (stand right in his aggro circle) and the only attacks he will use are lifeleech and AoE lifeleech.
Necromancers got a teleport btw, DS Skill 2.

But I honestly wouldn’t call it harder than for example with Warrior. For phase3, just to survive, I need to constantly weapon-swap, burst skill, Whirlwind Attack, Shield Stance, Dolyak Signet and Balanced Stance, and sometimes that’s still not enough.

I should be able to do it with a necromancer soon, just gathering some specific armor stats to be able to pull it off. It’s not as simple as “use deathshroud to soak damage”. Both Dub and Admired have good points, but what hurts necros the most is vigor, most classes have a way of obtaining it, necro none but food which is 40% instead of the usual 100%

I understand where you’re coming from weth but the reason I said it’s harder on thief over war is because if the thief doesn’t have a shadow return set up and ready to go, odds are they’re going to die. I have shadowstep and dagger storm just in case of that exact thing. Shadowstep is great but dagger storm requires me to take 1/3-2/3 of my hp before getting to safety and is only available every 90 seconds. We don’t have warrior resistances and defiantly don’t have shield stand/endure pain/balance stance to tank/get out of hairy situations. Also my evade (was using sword/dagger 3 here for that) isn’t nearly as fast or damaging as whirlwind while also not being a good distance closer, shorter evade time, less damage, and not controllable in where I want to go (which is why I hardly used it :P).

Idk, it’s just different playstyles for the classes. The thief has to plan their attacks and react to others, where as the warrior only needs to react. Not taking anything away from your run, it’s just your class has a few more strengths to work with is all I meant to say.

Warrior resistance? All Lupicus attacks 1-2 hit me.

If we compare phase 3 attacks (correct me if I put Thief ones wrong):
Life Drain (when he rises):
Thief: Shadow Return, Infiltrator’s Strike.
Warrior: If GS and Whirlwind available: Whirlwind + dodge (take damage if bad timing), otherwise 2-3 dodges (out of endurance, take damage if bad timing) or Shield Stance (Necrid Trap may kill you later)

Life Drink (channel): Same for both (2 evades).

Necrid Trap:
Thief: Shadow Return, Infiltrator’s Strike.
Warrior: If Shield Stance ready: Shield Stance + dodge (eat 1 tick unless very optimal timing), If Balanced Stance: Balanced Stance + dodge, If Dolyak Signet: Dolyak Signet (eat one tick) + dodge, else: DEAD

Frenzied Blasts:
Thief: Shadow Return, Infiltrator’s Strike.
Warrior: 1-2 evades (usually eat 1 tick, more if just used 1 evade).

As you can see above, Warrior is pretty much forced to take damage. Also sitting on wrong weapon means you will get killed (can’t constantly spend ~2 dodges on every ability), failing to manage Adrenaline also means death.
Did you even run out of Endurance with Thief?

the thing about shadow return is that you have to set it up prior to everything. If lupi moves out position it can render the shadow return completely useless. If Lupi moves into a bad spot, rendering my shadowstep useless and I don’t have the chance to make a new return spot, if he bubbles me, I’m dead. I don’t have a balance stance or shield stance or endure pain to rely on in those situations. Also having to rely on sword 2 so heavily means I don’t get the benefit of weapon swap (and if I did it would be on a 10s cd instead of 5) so I don’t get to utilize sigils that give endurance on weapon swap.

I don’t get to deal damage when I use my shadowstep whereas warrior gs, you deal a kittenton of dmg to lupi, not to mention good damage on just the dodges alone. If I went sword pistol, I still wouldn’t have killed lupi. The evade on that takes so long to start and lasts for so short a time that it will get you killed more than it will ever help you. The only real good weapon skill dodge on lupi is sbow 3 since this was a melee solo, I didn’t want to touch it outside of p1.

Idk how much endurance the burst skills restore you when you use them because I rarely use my war, but in watching your vid it still looked like you had lots to spare.

Not saying anything bad about warrior, just saying it fells more forgiving. What you do is amazing and I’m not taking anything away from it. Soloing lupi is and always will be difficult, regardless of the class. All I was saying is, even though you are forced to take damage as a warrior, you can take it and keep moving. If a thief takes that damage, they die. We have access to the extra dodges and blinks because of this but our softness means we have to play more conservative.

And despite my best efforts, I did run out of endurance… many, many times. I just got lucky in that run and didn’t get mad back to back drains like I did in other attempts. Pretty sure you saw me having to save withdraw or roll for ini to dodge instead shadow return or just dodging because for w/e reason, lupi gets really good at walking you down in p3.

Warrior isn’t really that much more forgiving. In your vid, if I see correctly you have 1015 toughness, that means that you have 48 less defence than Weth. The difference in hitpoints is bigger and equals to 2611 but I wouldn’t say “you can take it and keep moving”. Another thing, I think Signet of Agility instead of Smoke Screen and you should never run out of endurance.

Lupicus barely moves unless you make him.
You could use Sword/X + Sword/Y if you wanted Sigil bonus.

I agree Warrior got more damage, that just shortens fight though.

Yes, I have spare ones because I constantly weapon-swap and use Burst (restores one bar) to keep it up. I need to have spare, otherwise I’m toast. At any moment if I can’t evade twice or have Stability/Shield Stance I may get killed.

You can take damage as a Thief too. You don’t have that much less effective health (you got 16k on video, I got 18.5k-19,5k). The game is all about dodging/evading attacks.

With weapon-swap you probably wouldn’t. But for most of the attacks you don’t need Endurance.

very true, and I the only reason why I have that much hp is because I THOUGHT 30 into acrobatics for the trait to shadowstep back when u get cced once every 60s would be great. What I didn’t know was that if it gets you out of the bubble, you’ll still take 100% of the damage from the bubble despite you being clearly outside. Also, you will still be knocked down. So if I ever do this again I guarantee I’ll have 150 less vitatily and the run will probably be smoother because of it. I also have a pvt sword just because I looted that sword in the same fractal where the skin dropped in the daily so I just transmuted it. Def should have just got a zerker sword for coe of cof.

Also I was thinking about doing the sword x and sword y as you suggested but I was lazy :P

Main thing though, I just wish thief had an elite skill they could actually use vs lupi. Dagger storm is useful once, MAYBE twice in the fight but usually 0 times. Bas venom doesn’t work and thieves guild only gives him free targets to heal. If I was a sylvari the take root skill would be amazing but I’m a norn… the race with the worst possible elite skills for a thief. Am very jealous of your signet of rage

I guess I should just say I think both of our classes are great for doing lupi when done right. The only difference is if you do something wrong, you have a slightly higher chance of walking away from it. That’s all I was trying to say and I’m sorry if I offended you by saying that. The only class that I find would be pure ez mode (comparatively, definitely still not easy) is guard. No other classes have the amount of passive blocks, perma vigor, protection, regen, aiges etc etc etc that would give them an edge.

I prefer smoke screen just cause even thought sometimes I get hit through the screen (/cry), it gives me the opportunity to sit back for a second and plan my next w/e i need to plan. Makes things go a lil smoother imo. If I had to drop something for signet of agility it’d probably be roll for ini. 60 seconds cd and dont usually need the ini. The only reason why I took that over signet is cause of the stun breaker. Did help a few times and I’d take it again.
