Volcanic Fractal lvl 20 (Legendary shaman)
Well what classes are ye playing?
If you have long term sources of immobilize, use those on the boss when his shield goes up, then ignore him and clear the elemental adds.
Otherwise, bring a guardian or 2 with shield of the avenger and wall of reflection, work out who uses which and when, and focus down the boss shield before clearing adds so he doesn’t eat a sacrifice and heal.

Tell ranger to use entangle, tell your mesmers to bring feedback. It’s also preferable if they have focus skills grant reflection, but not necessary. If need be, have them pick up illusion of life as well. That fight is more about surviving and mob control than anything else.

ouch. no guards
I can only comment on mesmer builds
if those mesmer are traited for 0/20/0/20/30, then they could have the vigor trait and medic feedback. <- abuse the medic feedback because free reflect when party down
I use
s/s or s/p with a staff.
Staff boons and offensive and to run away.
Sword for #2 and pistol for the boss
I traited for glamour on blind so my null feild is useful in protecting the group.
I would also recommend using veil on the mesmer focus to group up the adds, then put up glamour around them, taking the eles down quickly with some aoe is vital, otherwise it will become messy.
aside from that ofcourse the engi can use his elixer and hope for a reflection wall

Thanks for the help guys, if anyone knows any other solid tactics feel free to share with me Im the ranger in the group btw
I play with a group of close friends in a guild.. always the same guys. Noone has a guardian with enough AR yet, so they arent an option.
It should be possible without guardians obviously. Otherwise it would be unfair

mesmer focus have a huge z axis limitation with a long cool down and needs to be traited to reflect. Unless the player have lots of experience with the focus, then the player will more likely not be effective. Although I made my build for focus, I stop traiting for it and use this

This is much more reliable than focus at critical moments.

Why not both? , but yes you are right, if the mesmer is skilled with it, it can be usefull though, adds usually come from the edges to the middle, a well placed veil can do well
( not to block projectiles, mind you, to group up adds only)

Hello guys,
We seem to have a lot of trouble with the legendary shaman at lvl 20, he is such a kitten.. the trouble seems to be the phase where he spawns his grubs. we manage to get him to the last time he spawns them but then just wipe all the time. Is there any effective way of dealing with this at this level without being racist towards classes ?
3 guards, 2 mesmer or 2 guards and 3 mesmer and you should pass this pretty easily.
If you’re a glass cannon ranger you can stay on the platform and still hit the boss with a traited longbow(unlesss he goes all the way back) helpful for getting a barrage off without burning. Only use search and rescue on flat surfaces as it bugs out on anything else.for taking down the shield use longbow 2 and war horn 4,nearly takes it down with just that.
Retaliation for your mesmers and feedback should help too, maybe if the necro went all minions for things to hide behind too? (bit of a noob with these two classes)
Feedback and talented focus is pretty sick. Use Curtain to group up eles and then drop warden = win. Stack bleeds on Shaman rock shield to make it drop quick (it drops on # of hits, not dmg).
I don’t know much about ranger or engineer, but it seems like flamethrower + omnom ghost or healing bombs would destroy the lava eles.
I would save feedback for the boss once the shield drops, dealing with his arrows and their aoe dot + eles just makes it more complicated than it needs to be, especially with mesmers having so much reflection (and having 2 of them!).
Ele protection potions help a lot as well as lifesteal/life regen/endurance regen food.
A team full of squish? Best bet is really to just get a guardian or two. If you already have problems in 20, wait till you roll it for 38+
We aren’t planning on replacing people for guardians tough.. We want to do this with this group because we’ve always done.
We just find ourselves leaving the fractal if the shaman is the first one we enter. Since he’s so hard. Tough, we’ve always managed to kill him until now..
I can see that mesmers are an important factor in the fight. I personally am the ranger, and i use all the traps i have to kill those grubs (condition ranger)
Often we find ourselves being downed by the grubs and then instandly attacked by the shaman’s AOE or his fireball..
Ranger with a help of time warp from mesmer should be able to bring down shaman bubble alone. As per lava spawns – when shield is down just try to survive and get the full condi necro (there are items I believe toughness/precision/condi dmg). It’s easy with any classes just some of them needs more practice. And yes, usually one/two mistakes can cause total wipe. Remember that if someone is close to death he needs NOT to die in lava pools, and also when he’s dead, guy with agro goes away and 1-2 ppl res dead player. Try to be constantly in move – it will allow you not to be hit all the times by arrow/agony. Also keep the boss in the middle of the “island” before the bubble comes up.

possible strategy…
Have both mesmer having GS/ SW-focus
Both with feedback and quickness
stay all at 1200 range tapping AD at intervals of 2 seconds (that should evade arrows).
As the shama spawns elementals have ranger cast entangle and 1 mesmer cast feedback go all in the field and have both mesmers use GS autoattack to get rid of ths shield (3 hit per attack).
When shield is about to 3-5 run away (there is a bug that makes shaman aoe istant when it exit shield status).
Have the other mesmer cast somewhere feedback and kill the adds using izerkers and crowd controlling with focus 4-4 while using sword 2 for big damage.
If someone died finish to kill elementals then have the one with aggro kite shaman away with the AD 1200 range trick…..while other ress.
repeat 3 times with quickness on phase 2 and phase 3.
P.S. if someone gets downed target a low health grub and all focus on it to help him rally instead of ressing.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
thanks a lot guys
