Joined some friends late into an ac run the other day. They had a pug warrior with them. I asked what banners they had so I wasnt doubling up or anything. The pug said “I dont use banners”.

that’s weird because I’ve been pugging engie almost exclusively for about a week and I’ve never, ever been kicked for it

I remember when I thought mace/shield was doing any good in dungeons.

I also remember being frustrated at how long it took me to kill things.

Well, I do wish (as an engineer main) to just get the main hand melee weapon you’re despising and related traits that let us work well in groups. Playing solo at mid-range using grenades in engineer sucks when you’re not playing in high resolutions and you can’t see kitten properly. Especially when everyone on your party is meleeing and ultimately obscuring your view when you’re using nades.

I play on a laptop with terribad resolution and I tend to grenade really well. If they’re obscuring your view, just aim at where they seem to be swinging. It’s blindingly easy to toss ’nades.

am i allowed to write kitten (where you all form a circle and tug each other) or will it be replaced by kitten? probably be infracted

Are we all supposed to tug in the same direction or in opposite directions? One would make the circle more of a wheel, the other would just be some weird game of tug o’ war.

Yeah you can’t see kitten if you’re grenading from 600, but just aim for the glob and you’re fine. It would make sense for engies to get a mace but it would have to be pretty bad-ace to replace nades.

I go 30/30/30/30/30 and just carry pugs all day in Arah.

Ha, yeah. Thought that in my first dungeon on 80, CoE story, suspecting it to be a great tank weapon set. After one third of the dungeon, I realized it was garbage and went back to my trusty greatsword

oh I’ve never pugged with an actual DPS guardian, but at the very least I expect them to be using greatsword. that’s like, bare-kitten minimum and now pugs are even failing that

I once pugged with a 4signet staff guardian. I just treated that run as a 4man dungeon run.

Actually come to think of it…. if I considered the virtues, it would be a 7signet staff guardian.

I’ve got nothing on the gems in here, but I did CoE with a Hammer Stance Warrior. The only reason I think it was stance is because there were no banners, no signets, no shouts, so I suppose I’m just giving him the benefit of the doubt by assuming he wasn’t just neglecting his 7-9….

Oh my god, he could’ve been whittling down that Defiance without me noticing, I’m such an unobservant player >.<

Guardian Downed Build

Traits: 30/0/10/30/0

Zeal
II: Hopefully your foe is burning
IV: Apply Aegis as you’re about to be downed
V: 50% Increased downed damage.

Valor
III: Lose health 33% slower when downed

Honor
III: Symbols are larger (skill 3)
VII: Symbols last longer (skill 3)
X: All symbols heal allies (skill 3)

Gear and weapons are whatever you feel like for the most part, preferably Staff/GS so you can put symbols down just before you get downed. Maybe some healing power so your symbols heal better. Or zerker gear so you can get some okay damage in before you reach the optimal downed state.

Playstyle/effectiveness

DPS your foes as much as possible while you are up. Try to avoid symbols at this point as they heal and you want to be in the downed state. As you approach the downs, hit aegis and GS skill 4, Staff skill 3. When downed use skill 3 as often as possible, but mostly you will be using skill 1. If you are serious trouble you can try skill 2 to buy yourself some valuable DPS or heal time. Using skill 4 is a hot topic of debate, really you shouldn’t need it as the symbol will heal you fairly well and that way you can focus on DPS.

Food: Bowl of Fire Salsa (+100% downed health, +20% downed damage). Self explanatory. Utility: have stacks of slaying potions depending on what mob you’re facing.

How do you feel about players who create builds as an expression of the character they’re roleplaying? I’m more into roleplaying than I am buildcrafting, and will opt for a sub-par build if it fits my character better…not that I’m running any pure defense/healers or anything, but my builds will have defensive elements and aren’t intended to do the highest possible dps. However, I’m explicit about this in a group. I’d never try to join an all berzerker’s dungeon speed run, and I basically warn group members before we begin that I’m not in it for speed. I’m not trying to be selfish or “poison gaming,” but I have fun with Guild Wars 2’s affordances for roleplaying within character build, and as long as I’m not getting in your way, I don’t see what the problem is.

At least he has the decency of not joining groups that don’t want his type but I think that the very idea of “roleplaying” a character in dungeons makes him a good candidate for this play-as-I-want thread, probably even more so than the ignorant necromancer guy because he’s actively going for things he knows are subpar for roleplaying’s sake. One wonders if he’s trying to taunt and talk to the bosses midfight too.

Even if you’re a pure roleplayer, at least have the mindset that you bring a cookie-cutter build/gear because when you’re dungeoning, you’re also taking up other people’s time (unless, of course, you do the dungeon solo, or doing a roleplaying run with other likeminded people).

A well-rounded role-player would be able to role-play around the cookie-cutter builds. Only deficient role-players would lack imagination and have to insist on changing their builds to feel in-character. Besides, dying faster in zerker gear feels more realistic anyway ;D

I really like your signature… so many good memories

Dying faster in zerker gear feels more realistic when you’ve got a character in heavy norn t3 with a bit of skin showing (<3 being able to show off tattoos in armour) but it feels kinda dumb when you’ve got t3 human heavy and die because the wind blew the wrong way even though you’re encased head to toe in armour plating.

Bosses shoot armor-penetrating attacks. xD

Dont even get me started on my apothecary ranger. When I put the healing spring down I carry my whole team because of my superior healing power and regen.

We have a hard time with bad specs, don’t sugar coat it. “Unique”, LOL.

Don’t hate me, I mixed Stife’s Guardian and Mesmer builds together. Now I run Knights Mesmer with Soldiers Runes for condi removal. This is group support, but I don’t expect casuals to understand how that works.
