why is Anet trying to control us?
ArenaNet implemented the diminishing returns system to limit exploitation in dungeons without necessarily having to deal with the exploits on a case to case basis. Their thought process is that dungeon content should take around an hour or more to complete.
The flaw in their logic is that how long they think dungeons should take to complete and how long they actually take can be very different. The fact is that some dungeon content does not take an hour to complete or even close. Their DR system is fundamentally flawed because it does harm to legitimate players.
Let me present an example. If I were a cop, saw a man with a tattoo, and decided to arrest him just on the possibility he had committed a crime, even if I was right I would deserve to be fired because I could have been wrong.
The sad truth is that ArenaNet is essentially doing the same thing. They’re casting an indiscriminate net to catch their prey. But the DR system is a reflection of ArenaNet’s own flawed dungeon design. It will hamper exploiters, but in doing harm to legitimate players it makes the player pay the price for ArenaNet’s own mess ups.

I really don’t get why people don’t want to run dungeons because they feel it’s not rewarding. I used to farm dungeons for 15 kittening tokens at release. Now you get 60 every route. That’s 180 tokens. I had to run 12 times for that amount of tokens.
Wtf spoiled much.
Inci you get as much as Ref? Both of you are very good at what you do.

They’ve said that if legit runs are tripping the DR, they can dial it back on a per-path basis to accommodate players.

This!! Summed up very well comrade.
While simultaneously catering for the casual players who couldn’t care less about the benefits of being casual – hence their casual presence, and attempting to put a handle on exploiters; the honest commited players suffer the most for it. The way i’d prefer to play, under their system cannot be satisfied. I would like to play longer, but the activities which would sustain my interest in the game are shrunk beyond worth to the point where there’s no point – and as a consequence, myself and other players with the same needs from a game are left hungry yet unable to eat because the rations are spoiled. They are very vague about this systems holes, it seems like they’ve put their foot down, they like the idea, and they are just going to keep trying to justify it without acknowledging how it’s destroying the gameplay experience. The dev attention on this matter seems low, and they only ever chime in with very inconclusive unsatisfying comments like “We realize there’s bugs. Have fun with that”. Kick me in the face a little harder next time. They say it will be good, but the only sense i can see that is in comparing it into how buggy and broken it is at the moment. it’s still a dodgy system. and you’ll find the people who have little to do with it are the ones on the defense.
No Evil lol, Inci just forgot the DR system is broken rofl , and everyone is getting a random award, some even 2 or 0 tokens
I’m experiencing the same curious environment about guild population. I was on 2 guilds, joined 2 more thinking they was crap. Well all of them have 7 players online at best, all day. I asked to who was online, the number didn’t grow.
I guess there is a mass leaving, considering the Anet attitude relasing a malfunctioning DR, the large amount of bugs all around, TP and mail broken every few days etc etc
Add the release of MoP and it’s pretty clear what is going on. Mass leaving.
Shrugs, i suggest you to wait a couple weeks more, and if your guild is still struck on 20 members, change guild, or ask to be an officer and try to recruit someone ( who is left lol)
The DR system itself is bogus…it only hurts the game… its like DRM its just an absurd annoyance that 99.9% of players dont want to deal with…
2 reasons
Gem to Gold conversion
And soon the actual Tokens will be for sale at the Gem store if not the Tokens the actual skin for each dungeon

Baseless accusations.
they still have DR? lol bummer, see ya later

Actually the primary flaw is the DR system was broken from initial implementation, and now not only eats money and experience, as it did before, but tokens as well, since they didn’t fix the original bugs before changing it once again. The 30 minute timer is not something to complain about, most games have some sort of instance lockout, just think of this as something similar. Do two dungeons in half an hour, go do some DE’s or get a snack.

Waw grats, that’s so nice.
It’s even nicer to have 4 ppl in my party like you, receiving 60 tokens, while I get 10, or 5.
It’s not only ‘not rewarding’ it’s just plain taste destruction because I often feel myself as the most valuable member in PUG groups (everyone dies 3 – 4 times and I just keep on soloing the boss until they’re back so it does not reset….)
Knowing that those players who don’t bother reading the chat for tactics get literally three times as much tokens as me is just taking away my will to play the game.
Hell, guild wars is not open right now as usually it just continually is. I’m just checking forum for dev updates and filling my time until I can enjoy dungeons again so that I’m no longer being the martyr of injustice.

At the moment the DR system seems to be punishing everyone, but one of the devs wrote this:
“Thank you this is excellent info. We would like dungeons to be legit hard enough to take closer to 45 mins but if we can’t accomplish that goal we can look at the speed clear times from non exploiters and easily adjust the system. The goal is that hardcore farmers don’t even see this thing but only exploiters. We will keep working towards that goal.
Jon"
So their intention is only to punish exploiters. But the thing is it’s hard for them to judge how fast people will be able to do the dungeons. They obviously underestimated it at the moment, since some paths can go down in 20 minutes (like in AC, some bits can essentially be skipped)

That and the bugs, of course.
I’m also guessing that ‘skipping’ trash mobs isn’t working as intended I wouldn’t be surprised if they add some new ‘gates’ or increase the leashes on a lot of dungeon mobs in the next update or two. That’ll make certain paths a smidge more difficult (really not looking forward to having to deal with those first few dogs in TA, or the extra vines in Up path).
atm the system is punishing honest players.
it’s very frustrating. I rather see an exploiter not getting punished than innocent people being punished, even though I hate cheaters/bug exploiters..
