2nd End Of game
I soloed it my first time. On a Thief. My armor was in shreds by the end (especially since I had to turn to the forums to learn about using the Divine Fire to snuff out the fire-eating shadows), but I did it. Subsequently I’ve soloed it on mesmer, or as good as, I was doing the fight while someone else lay dead.
It’s not an easy fight, and the achieves are even harder, but it’s not too hard for two players.
As to what you get, you get the achieve, the experience in beating more complex mechanics than just dpsing, the unlock to do further achieves so you can get more Luminescent armor, a pair of cool cut scenes … getting another character slot wouldn’t help you survive in HoT, you can only play one alt at a time. Getting a weapon would … get you another weapon of the exact same stat balance you already have, which would also do nothing to increase your HoT skill.
It is, however, completely voluntary and optional content. It’s there to give you some goodies that you don’t need for game play and to present the story to you, that’s all.
I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
Correct me if I’m wrong but you have 2 issues (about LS2 I guess?), 1) content is “too hard” for small guild, 2) rewards aren’t worht the time/effort.
1) content is too hard for small guild:
LS2 is design to be done alone, therefore I don’t understand the link with the amount of members in your guild. I guess it’s not about the numbers but more about how hard it has been to you to find someone to help you?
It’s OK to have a hard time on a mission, and even to die. Not everyone is as efficient as it is needed to soloing the mission. And Anet said that LS2 is suppose to be a challenging content for solo players (or at least achievements).
I’m not arguing about the fact that it is hard or not, it’s up to you, I’m just saying it is plan as a 1 man mission. But since you can give it a try with a party, why not, and even for a small guild it’s not that hard to find some others players imo (especially with the LFG tool).
2) Rewards aren’t worht the time/effort:
On this one I have to disagree. Each episodes were available for quite a long time and therefore you had more time than needed to finish them especially if you just did the “story” and not achievements. Rewards for each episodes “story” were as good as those you get when you finish 1 personnal story (PS) mission. LS2 and PS are based on the same “design”, need almost the same “skill”, and are as rewarding. I don’t see what’s your issue here.
If you’re talking about achievements, well bioluminescent armor is a good looking armor and the only way to get it (full) is to finish all the achievements. With each episode achievement you get ascend stuff (higher gear tier) it seems rewarding enough to me.
TL;DR
english isn’t my native language, and I’m sure it isn’t yours either. But next time can you try to make your post “easier to process” please because I had a hard time trying to understand it and I’m not the only one.
I don’t agree with you at all (if I understood correctly the OP), rewards for each LS2 episode are (almost) equal to the rewards you get for 1 mission of personnal story, wich seems fair to me (same type of content/effort/time/skill). And the rewards you get from achievements are really worth the time it cost (even though I haven’t equipped biolum armore yet, she’s waiting for me in my bank).
If I made a mistake and didn’t understood what OP mean, I’m sorry.

Send me a Pm and I will help you and your guild clear the personal stories.
Its not that hard to figure out this. He and a friend did LS part 8, had a really tough time, didnt get any good rewards, and are annoyed.
You do in fact get something good from the living story steps (ascended nomads accessories for parts 1-4, sinister ones for 5-8) but it is from the achievements, not from just completing it. And since you had a hard time just completing it, I wouldnt bother with the achievements unless you get a group to help you, which you can do in the lfg window, but it might be a long wait since that content came out almost a year ago.
Ok in gw2 when you have made it all the way to silver springs and the Final mission in the cave and that dragon I feel it is to hard for 2 players my guild is small LOL to beat it after 3 days of trying we finally killed that sucker and went through the video etc.
It’s designed as a singleplayer mission (as well as all Season 2 missions). I have done it with my 8 characters (each profession) first time I tried with no special build or gear (exotics). It probably scales up depending on how many you are, so if you were 3 was harder than doing it solo.

Ok this is the first time I have ever posted in the forums I have read them but in the 12 years or so of playing GW1 and GW2 I decided to post.

My point here is that once you have made it there you do not get anything worth while I mean it might be nice to get a weapon or player slot etc so then when heats of thorns comes out your player stands a chance.
Just A Thought
Subjective. The thousands of players who beat this mission without problems disagree. As was pointed out by others, the mission is quite easy. I beat it first try solo on my mesmer. Granted, it actually requires you to wait and read the dragon attacks.
Now getting the achievements without exploiting, that does get tricky (though even here people have managed almost first try).
Point of interest, the amount of holy fires you need to activate increases with more players. Solo it’s 4, I think with 2 people it goes up to 8. The dragons attack pattern also always stays the same, so wait for the right moment and apply fire (which becomes infinately easier with more than 1 player since the dragon can target only 1 at a time).
Are you talking about the story or achievements? Because my husband and I (ranger and ele) did this with little issues at all :/ I feel pained to say…

While the LS2 rewards aren’t incredibly valuable, I’m not sure I’m bothered by that, either, especially since the Personal Story is pretty light on really valuable rewards, particularly to anyone who already has a level 80 character.
What kind of rewards would you prefer to see from it? I think a character slot or ascended armor/weapons would be too much. (Would exotic gear be better? Or is that not enough?)
A couple gold, maybe? I was going to suggest a home instance node, and then I remembered that you get a Personal Bandit Chest for completing Point of No Return.
Personally, I really liked the Carapace armor, although I’m still figuring out who will actually wear it. Kinda lukewarm on the Light armor, but Medium/Heavy looks great.

Oo, ok… i guess.
My post wasn’t mean, far from it actualy since I didn’t imply that you’re stupid (Still try to figure out what make you feel that way) and that “how hard a missions is” is up to everyone skill.
I just take time to argue why imo you’re wrong and that’s it.
If it’s the part about the english being your first language that you didn’t appreciate, well I usualy don’t have any trouble to read english and I had to read your post several time so I just made an assumption (wrong apparently).
I really take my time before I post to be sure that I’m not aggressive against other users and right now I quite confuse to be honest. But your answer kinda give me an explanation, and probably not the one you expected.

Sucks that is the way you want to go with a few bad eggs on the forums. But each to our own.
I solo’d the entire LS2 on my mesmer, Duo’d on my Guard, and did a 5man start to finish with my Ele. I can say that running Solo is harder for some, but easier for a lot of the parts as you dont have to worry about party members dying and rezing them. If you do run Duo one player should ‘tank’ up and the other go near line berserker and have the ‘Tank’ run a support build for rezzing. I found this to work best when I was doing the LS on my Guard (Tanky support Healing build, VERY effective for all of the chapters)
The Dragon at the Pale Tree and end of the LS2 story were the hardest parts to solo. the Pale Tree Dragon was touch and go, but if you watch the ground and dodge when you need to its not all that bad. The End chapter’s dragon was a huge PITA. I had to die and rez 6 times on my mesmer. Ended up killing the dragon with 100% broken armor (from 30% HP down to dead). Was a amusing experience I will not run through again.
There are many ways to play this game. You just need to try them all until you find out what works for you.

There were some somewhat ruder posts that got deleted, along with mine replying to those to try to explain what those posters had misunderstood.
OP, please don’t give up on posting. It can be a fun conversational outlet, and you may find people willing to aid in future LS chapters if you need.
I didn’t realize that there was no reward after completing the mission. But overcoming the challenge itself is rewarding. My complaint is that the clue in the game is not very clear.

On the other hand the dragon’s attacks become trivial with 2+ people since the dragon always goes after whoever started the instance.

There are rewards for completing it. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Mystery_Cave#Rewards
The LS is an extension of the PS and gives similar rewards as someone else mentioned and those rewards are pretty similar to what PS gives. The unid dye drop rate from the bags of loot is high enough that I almost always get one per character. Lodestones aren’t too bad either.
but in the 12 years or so of playing
no you didnt, max 11 years and that would include beta testing.
I thought the final mission was a bit too difficult as well. I did on my ele and I don’t know how I would survive without all the heals I was using. And the teleports. The stupid dragon would pop me in the air every few seconds.
I wonder how extremely undergeared OP and his guild mates have to be :P
I soloed it loong tiem ago on a ranger with permadead pet because of stuffs with exotics-only set – not that big issue – just long encounter but otherwise not so difficult overal….

it’s not so difficult if you know what to do. I died, looked up how to kill the flame snuffing thingies, and succeeded in the next try.
Some of the achievements however, are quite difficult but fun. It’s one of those things where hard means fun and not frustration. You fail, yes, but you have fun while trying so you try again.
The dodgy crowd from the centaurs part, on the other hand, is one of those parts of the game where you get frustrated and you don’t have fun, and on top of that the game punishes you with endless minutes of boring dialogue for failing.
