I’d been somewhat excessively glum because Electro Blue sky-rocketed in price before I could get it (I did get electro pink back then though, yay!) so finding out today that I could get the thing I have been wanting most all year was like a birthday and Christmas rolled together – the intensity of my happy is off the charts!

Because they were not really worth as much per se, just hyperinflated due to lack of supply.

Seriously, you knew that eventually anet will make those dyes available again in the gemshop, or even (gasp) black lion chests, which would cause the price to plummet. And if you didn’t… oh well, at least you made the sellers happy.

So after reading this, I see a lot of people that tried to take a “financial” advantage on people that were ready to pay a much to high price for it.

I personally, if I had the money to do so, would hire an agency in every country to send a burly man to your house, ring your doorbell and slap you in the face twice to bring you back to your senses. One party for being an opportunist and then sore for being a victim of unforseeable stuff, the other party for being careless with their money and supporting the behaviour of the first party. ^^

I’m about a year behind everyone else so I have another year to go it seems…

I just hope the drastic drop in demand will effect the dye market but seeing how those items can’t be left on the TP for months I don’t think that will happen..

100g for a dye sure but over 1000g for a cosmetic dye is simply too much and before people state supply and demand like I said even with all these dyes and the drastic drop in demand the prices will doubt remain the same and unchanged just because there account bound.

As title thread says, what about who has all dyes unlocked?

I would hope that this wouldn’t be a sPvP exclusive thing since comparatively no one plays that mode. But yes, we need more UW stuff and UW to be taken serious.

You spent that much on a dye being artificially upheld to that level due to supply shortages it was a bubble pure and simple. If they had a 24 hour tiami dye sale it would’ve popped. It was your own choice and in business it’s your responsibility not Anet’s to be wise with your gold and see simplistic trends such as the dye market. So you and everyone else get what they deserve. You’ve had the product prior and you used it prior and there is no refund in any circumstance for such action. It’s like people wanting a refund for HoT after taking advantage of the Beta weekend events or spending there gems from the ultimate edition.

The price of electro dyes will remain around 1000g in the store even with people receiving or choosing to wait for there third birthday rewards. It will remain at that price until new dyes are added to the TP and supply and demand can come into effect those dyes that have been sitting for months may remain many months from now but new dyes will pad it back to its actually supply and demand amount however these new dyes are account bound and won’t do anything.

That said if you want to sell your dyes you best start rushing to those buy orders before there all taken down. Those buy order peeps will probably be the next crowd to complain they may be asking 700g for an expensive dye but not be able to log in to get there free dye and take it down before the request is fulfilled. So they will be next to post on this subject and it will remain to be there fault in the end.

- get into instances (dungeons, personal story)?
- use it in WvWvW?

They are account bound, and only for people who have played the game for a minimum of 3 years. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I can’t imagine the number of 3 year vets is very large. I personally will only be getting one of these dyes, with another dye every 4 months or so after that.

Of course all of your whining presumes that they aren’t going to bring back those dye kits for the anniversary sale as well. The dyes may only be 100g by the end of the anniversary sale anyway.

Gem store items are never a good indicator of value, rarity or achievement because they come back on sale all the time.

It can’t hurt to hang on to them and see if new packs are added later, I imagine they wont be added until being retired from BLC drops etc (which is why the shadow dye isn’t in there I’d wager)

Imo new dyes will not be added to the current birthday dye gift as it would require updating them each time dyes are removed from the gemstore. its far more likely to be just those set dyes it has right now.

Of course it needs to include skins that are now not available.

We won’t be seeing the effects until we actually get some new dyes that can be sold though but overall I’m excited about these new changes. Also Anets ability to finally tackle one of the problems of this game that they themselves cause by removing certain dye packs from the game causing supply to trickle down to 2-4 dyes of a color up at one time or gone completely.

I’m actually pretty happy about the Teleport to Friends. I have several characters that were leveled to 80 mostly through tomes, and the teleport lets me get a waypoint down in Orr when the farthest south they’ve been is Lion’s Arch.

Yes, that is a GREAT use for it. Right now it is 50/50 if you can make it from Ft Trinity to the pact waypoint without dying unless you go with one of the invasion forces. I can log on my alt account via a laptop and park there then have my new characters teleport to her and get the WP.

I don’t know, I could see them leaving the year 3 packs as a static available set.
I mean they can’t win either way, leave them static and people who get them much later will complain they dont contain newer sets, change them and people will either complain about wanting the new stuff but already using the kits, or wanting one from a removed kit but they were waiting to consider their options lol

Not into a full shard, but otherwise yes. Wiki: If the player tries to teleport to a full map, the player will be unable to do so but the item will still be used, effectively wasting the item.

Yes

Hall of monuments: unknown. it is unlikely to take someone into an instance and the HoM is a single person only instance.. Heart of thorns without purchasing, highly unlikely.

Unknown but probably not into instances.

- use it in WvWvW?
PvE only. Wiki: Directly teleports the player to a party member anywhere in the PvE environment.

One dye per 3 year old character. Most people will likely pick either celestial, shadow abyss or one of the most expensive dyes. If people have ~5 characters it will affect a tiny portion of the exclusive dyes. So really nowhere as dramatic of an effect as people make it out to be.

The funny part will be people getting dyes because they are expensive, not because they like the color. Even funnier will be those same people whining loudly when Taimi set will be re-introduced later because they ‘wasted’ their birthday dye on the color they didn’t like which will go down in price.

If someone is really stupid enough to invest 1000g for a dye, it will happen, despite how much it is a slap in the face of common sense.^^

But yeah, not many players are 3 years old and still plays, and I doubt that among that small group many was actually saving gold to buy any of those fancy dyes, so the market that the 3rd birthday gift removed is much smaller than you can imagine.
Sure the value will drop a bit, but the profit margin of that insane inflated dye will still be insane high.

I was in the minority last year because I really thought the Birthday Gun was awesome, but I have to say, this year topped that! Thank you A-Net for a wonderful gift that is truly fitting for people who have played for 3 years. Being able to choose a high end dye is really a perfect way to celebrate 3 years of commitment (account bound, so you have to use it). Also, I’m not big on finishers, but the Birthday Finisher is one of the nicest I have seen, if not the nicest. Please keep up the great work and remember the silent majority of us loves the game!

No. It’s a character birthday gift. Not an account gift.

From what I understand it goes from the creation date of each individual character, not the date you started playing the game.

Ive moved some dyes around for some crazy prices, but I’m all for this. It’ll be good for the players to be able to catch a break in making sets that have been incomplete due to ridiculous dye pricing. And for those that still want instant gratification (or dont have enough 3 year chars to cover their tastes), the sellable dyes will be here.

If tradition holds, you will get the gift on each character’s third anniversary so you will not miss out, though the date may be delayed.

Very nice birthday gift. The dyes were a more than pleasant surprise, the birthday finisher is very well done (and cool looking) and I’m already making plans for each of the 3 other items.

If you check the age of each of your characters, you can then determine how long until each character receives their respective birthday gifts for their age.

While in-game, enter this command into your chat box: /age
When a character’s age reaches 365 days they will receive the Year 1 gift.
When a character’s age reaches 730 days they will receive the Year 2 gift.
When a character’s age reaches 1095 days they will receive the Year 3 gift.
etc.

You can also go to a website like timeanddate.com where you can add or subtract days to determine exactly what date it was you created the character on (when their birthday is) and how many more days until their next birthday.

I’m not the least bit upset that other people can now get some of the rarer dyes.

I’m not upset that there isn’t a title or even 10AP for unlocking every single dye in the game.

However, it is very disappointing that the 3rd birthday gift did not come with other options. It is well known that some players have full dye unlock, why not make the gift have a few different choices like the Ultimate Wintersday Gift and the Chest of Loyalty?

In case this is a for real question. The 3rd year birthday presents came out and it includes a dye pack with the option to choose from a number of gem store dyes.

Question, these B-day gifts, are they just something for people who had the game since the beginning, or do you get it in the gem store? And as far as dyes go, I haven’t been able to check but are the shadow dyes included in this? Sorry just haven’t been able to play much in the past couple of days.

Such is life. I bought the game with my own money, someone else I know won it in a raffle. I have to work every day to pay my bills, other people have trust funds with enough money to cater to every desire they will ever have and will never know wtf “work” actually is. Nothing in life is fair. If it were a lot of people would be in much better places, and the games we play would be totally different.

Instead of screaming about how supposedly unfair this is, just use yours to get the next most expensive dye on your list of ‘dyes I want’ and be glad you don’t need to grind out the gold for it now.

If you make a purchase for anything, you must first put your personal price on it. If it is higher than you “think” its personal worth is, then purchasing it at that level will only bring sorrow if the price falls.

Coming from a guy that waited to purchase the dream thistle dagger skin until after they came back to the weapon dealer I think I made a wise move.

I’m going to have to throw away some of my birthday dyes. I don’t like it when anet gives out gemstore stuff that I paid for for free. I didn’t like it when they did it with x-mas Minipets and I still don’t like it today.

But at least we get a sweet new finisher.

When Anet sells and/or distributes Legendaries… you should repost your argument, as it will ‘almost’ be valid then.

Anet has frequently undercut that market by re releasing old dyes.

I learned the second time not to play in that market. It’s just not a good idea to compete against anet in gemstore items.
