85% of all skins are just plain ugly
I think a lot could be done if Light, Medium, and Heavy armor skins could be used regardless which class you used. Asides from limiting the creativity of the player mixing and matching armor together, I can’t see much of a purpose for restricting things in this manner.
I agree with Trey. I’m still incredibly jealous that Medium armor classes get jeans.

there will probably be a lot of clipping issues
Grandmarshall set from WoW is better than any plate armor in GW2.
Lol, is that you Stevie?

There already are a lot of clipping issues. When my human character rubs his forehead, his hand passes through his skull. In an episode of POI, one of the dev players clipped right through massive vines and no one seemed to care, which makes me think that clipping is not a problem that the devs of GW2 are concerned with.
I’m willing to suffer a little graphical inconsistency through clipping for a while if it means that the game designed around custom clothing actually gives some freedom with it’s costume designs.
Aesthetics has and always will be personal opinion.
Ehhhhuh… no.
Read up on the golden section. And that is just one small piece of literally thousands of years of evidence. There is in fact quantifiable preferences preprogrammed not only in to the human psyche but all through the natural world. That isn’t to say people don’t defy those natural preferences, but that is exactly what it is, defiance; a willful, deliberate, and conscious decision to go against what feels natural, the psychological result of counterculturalism.
Considering that is actually something based on surveys, there is no way to actually define it as fact. Some groups of people are attracted to the same thing, while other groups of people are attracted to other features. It certainly isn’t a hard theory to defy, which is why so many people do defy it. (This is purely based upon the fashion in Guild Wars 2.)
You didn’t actually read up on what I said did you? None of it is based on surveys, none of it is even so modern as surveys, the principles of art and aesthetics I’m talking about began as studies in early Rome, and are observable all throughout nature. And I don’t just mean human behavior, but literally visible in things like cellular division, growth of plant and animal systems, attraction and imprinting, even the rotation of planets.
Anything entirely objective, is worthless, and art is not worthless. There are natural laws and patterns, a science behind it, that give it value.
Furthermore, most of the skins in this game range from good to great, and this ‘85%’ is a completely unreasonable blanket statement made to prove superiority by disapproval. If something isn’t good enough for you, you are better than it right? Wrong.

Once again, the topic of the thread is skins in Guild Wars 2. Do stop derailing. There are in fact modern studies of it, which is what i’m referring to. Not the golden section of art and architecture which is used as a guide and not something definitive. Humans are not sheep that follow a pre-determined rule.

I love the skins, my asura will look awesome in arah light gear, or some other….so many i cannot decide yet!
I have to agree as well after looking at every armor piece available for my Female ranger i found the vigil chest piece is the only good one every thing else is mostly ugly trench coats i hope druids gets real brown robes at lest Tho Radiant is ok but imposable to get
I can’t help but wonder what type of person would really want to a thread with such a rude subject. You do know that it’s actual human beings with real thoughts and emotions that designed those skins, right?
Again, this ALL SUBJECTIVE AND OPINION. I paid for this game just like you did and i can state my opinion.
Id question what type of individual you are but i already know, you are all that is wrong with america, please take your sensitive liberal comments somewhere else, thanks.

saying that it’s all ‘subjective and opinion’ then resorting to ad hominem yourself. classic. but while we’re on this thread, i, too, am not too fond of the character art work in this game – that includes both the armor pieces and the character designs (males look like sausage boys). but the environment? hot kitten . well done, anet.
I doubt if any of you ever thought about the FUNCTIONALITY of armor and realism…
Something like the arah armor shows an light fast move armor, the dark set is a full plate one. who can compare those 2? it’s asthetics yes, and points on armor are functional weapons, things like horns and such can be for asthetics , but can also have a role…
When you wnt to make something more realistic some things are go, some things are also just plain duh…. like the lawless helm… in a combat situation such a helm would kill you.
In the end I prefer realistic armor, but sometimes I like the plain dress factor and deterrant function of dress armor as well… Some armor should seem scary, if persons start being afraid, conflict might be avoided.
Armor isn’t just for looks…
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
While the OP is rather blunt in his/her tone, I can sympathise with the point he/she is making.
I believe the problem lies in some of the base-models which are used to build the newer ones.
IMHO they need to add variety to the base models, many are ugly and over-used – I’m looking at you, lollypop-staff.
Well, then there are 15% of skins for you to work on. Anet are not god, you can not expect them to make everything beautiful.
I also dislike most of the medium skins. Heavy are much nicer.

So, the whole point of the thread is that you just don’t like 85% of the skins … OK, thanks I guess.
I agree with the OP in some way. the starter skins and most of the crafting skins are not very exciting when I first started playing, compared to the vast armors a low level character in vanilla WoW could get.
Some of the skins seem to look better on same races and horrible on another (in my opinion), it gets a bit frustrating when you see how good something looks on humans but doesn’t look so great on asura or charr.
It’s true that it kind of lacks in variety, especially for heavy armour classes. There are plenty of “brute” type skins, that have horns, spikes, fire coming out of them and generally look fairly generic. There’s not many skins that really stand out, and so you have to mix and match a lot to get some nice customization options.
I would love to see more ‘gentle’ looking skins. Heavy classes don’t have to look like toasters, they just need to have metal parts on their armour, correct? So why not try something different? I personally would love to have a sort of coat on my warrior.
OP, you should probably give GW2 another try. Charrs are known to be glitchy, and the armour sets are usually stretched to fit into their body type. I would recommend you a human or a norn. Cheers.
I don’t really see a problem per say with low level armors not looking outstanding. The big issue that I have with armor and weapon skins at this point is that there seems to be no level of moderation. It’s like they’re given an arbitrary theme and forced to run with it, regardless of whether there’s actual inspiration given by said theme. This feels especially true of the Black Lion Chest ticket armor/weapon skins.
A simple design goes a long way, which is why I’m still so disappointed that they haven’t managed to surpass the design of Infinite Light in terms of swords. The sword, by the way, that is about as expensive as some Legendaries or a few Precursors. It’s such a charming looking weapon, with it’s own little effect that sets it apart from others and yet it doesn’t look ridiculous or require very specific characters to wield it in order for it to look attractive.
I agree with OP, there just isn’t as much variety in skins. Especially, all the battle-skirts for heavy armor. The variety for heavy armor pants is horrible.
If I’m in heavy armor, the last thing I want to be seen in is a skirt!
