A Casually Fading Game
The problem with challenging content is that it must be followed by increased rewards
You seem to think “challenging” = “boring”, so that the only reason someone would bother doing something so boring is if they could profit from it.
You don’t get a reward from playing frisbee or soccer, yet lots of people still do it for fun. Fun itself is the reward.

If activity A is way more challenging than activity B then no matter how much more fun it is, nobody will do it, except maybe a select few. It’s all a matter of choice. People don’t play soccer for the money, they play it for fun, but soccer for fun isn’t competing with money-making activities, while 2 activities in the game compete with each other for exactly that, money and time.
Now imagine how many people would play soccer (or any sport) in big teams, national leagues and such if playing competevely had the exact same rewards (just fun) as playing in your neighborhood… that’s the comparisson you should be making.

Casual? As in older players with limited time due to job, family etc…, but spare coin to spend? This game fits that demographic (and I count myself there) excellently. That alone will keep this game going for a long time. I still have fun with this game, but I don’t live every waking hour here.
The younger players will eventually move on the next “greatest” game ever…an on and on etc..

I fit that category as well. I’m still having fun and believe that any new mmo will have to pretty freaking fantastic to draw my attention as GW2 has set the bar very high in terms of quality and game experience.
I have a problem with a lot of blanket statements about “Anet Players” and “Casuals”. You have to be careful with blanket statements because they don’t always work and they make people sound foolish.

Naw…you were here early on in GW2. We had a couple of conversations on the boards. Thought you left the game though.

The leveling in this game could have been shortened In my opinion, starting a game off with 80 levels is a bit much. I would have been okay with 40-60. After 40 the game just seems to turn into a huge grind with nothing really keeping you going other than guild fun.
The original idea of “no levels” was a better. It was not a popular concept in MMO games and they could have popularized it with an AAA title. It’s not like they weren’t already hellbent on popularizing a lot of their other stupid unconventional ideas.
That was something that was bothering me from the start. For a game that allegedly attemted to popularize new ideas, they started out with a lot of expy ideas.
With the ammount of marketing power that they used to cover some of their kitties after the release, they could’ve easily popularized the “no levels” concept. There was really no danger in it. Of course nobody ever considers using the evil tool of marketing for anything but damage control.
Convincing stupid people of good ideas? Nah, that must be completely impossible. You can only convince smart people of stupid ideas.
Logic.

By and large the ones who play it for money call it football.

You seem to think that “challenging” = “more interesting”. Whis is equally untrue – those two things are not directly connected.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Unchallenging is usually uninteresting. That’s almost always true for me. I agree with him that Pve in this game is dreadfully boring and I cannot understand what “Pve players” even do on the game.. grind grind grind?
