The guests should get lower priority on a certain zone and kicked to an overflow if a native player to the server cannot get into the zone. Then if you want to play with your friend simply go to the overflow and allow the host server player to enjoy their server’s zone.
TC’s community is strong and vibrant. That’s a nice big shiny to those on the outside looking in. I’d like to think that those who come visit us, see that and are charmed by the friendly banter and upbeat attitude we share.
What I would ask, if you are visiting, please make yourself feel welcome … but also respect our community. We will gladly make you feel at home if you add to the community with thoughtful dialogue, but if you come in and are there to be disruptive, you’ll likely get some pushback.
As a general rule, we don’t swear in map chat, we don’t attack other players for their views, we don’t harass and belittle anyone for playing the game the way they want to. If it’s not your cup of tea, move on and find something that is. These rules may seem trite to some, but we really do appreciate how it creates a welcoming and friendly environment.
If you can keep to those basic sentiments, then your presence on our maps will be most welcome. Respect our community much the same way we’d respect yours if we visited.
I just want to say this: I chose my server as “home” for a reason, and I have an understandable expectation to play on that server.
Now, while I may not be wild about it, I accept that sometimes I’ll end up in overflow when too many people who also chose the same server as their home are on the same map. But too often now I find myself in overflow because “guests” are crowding the map, and that’s a whole different kind of annoying.
In my opinion these map populations should have a priority system that prioritizes actual residents, with space reserved for server natives and some slots set aside for server guests. I should never end up in overflow on a map on my home server because there are too many guests present.
I don’t think I’m suggesting anything unfair or unreasonable. And to have a map dominated by server guests instead of server residents seems a bit silly.

I agree with all the suggestions about guests having lower priority. It’s our server, we picked it as our home specifically. You shouldn’t get to kick a native out of his spot, plain and simple. TC had plenty of people before guesting, now it’s just a clusterkitten at times, with natives paying the price.
I don’t get why people do/did it to play at pen/shelt with 80 people in the evening on TC to get less loot because they might not even touch a mob before it dies unless they’re right in position every time.
I’ve been guesting off of TC for Orr since the day guesting was implemented.
lol. people complain that they are no players and then where they are too many players people complain.
Aww, this thread makes me sad. I’ve been playing on TC since launch and I love how there are people everywhere to play with and how chat is active. But I don’t have any level 80’s yet, so I can understand that there may be frustrations with high level events that I have not encountered.
I agree that it would really help if guesting was limited to players invited by someone on the server they want to guest on. Or, for those that don’t know anyone on a server but are thinking of transferring there, limiting guesting to 1 day per month per server (with some sort of limit so you can’t guest on a different server every day, lol). Hopefully that would limit the number of people that just guest for “event zergs” rather than for social/community reasons.
Guests should just have a lower queue priority on every server.

Tarnished Coast was never a server with not enough or too few players though.
I agree, guests on any server should be the first sent to the overflow. I have been on TC since day 1, and yesterday I actually had to guest on a different server to fight the dragons and grind some ORR missions. I would sincerely ask those even thinking about transferring here, is it worth your money to transfer if you will have to guest on other servers to do content?
Here is a quick story that may provide an analysis of the situation. When I was in college, my small group of friends started to go to a small local bar because it was quieter and more fun than the large, massively populated places. After a while, more and more of our extended friends group started to join us. Eventually, we had created an awesome place for our like minded friends to hang out. But… people started to brag about how great what we had was, and how much fun we were having at “our” bar. Within a few weeks this info had spread and pretty soon the fraternity and sorority groups that we were seeking to avoid started to show up in our new place. It wasn’t long until what we had was gone, and we had to find greener pastures.
TL;DR – be careful bragging about the great thing you have, pretty soon everyone will want it and it might become what everyone else already had.

TC isn’t the only server with map overflows. Maybe I should have made a thread about how best my server is and how I don’t want any outsiders to join because they aren’t az cool is me bro. Making TC my guest home. Hopefully, just to fill the spot that you could of had. HF in the overflow, neighbor

You absolutely could have made such a thread. In fact, I encourage you to do so. And if you say, in that thread, that you should get map entry priority over me, when I am guesting on your server, I will agree with you 100%.
Hate to be the one who revives this entire issue but I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to transfer to TC for the last 24 hours and honestly it’s getting frustrating. The fact that it’s full 24/7 and yet people can still guest to the server is just ridiculous in my eyes.
Hell it seems only guests can actually get on the server now and I have a nagging feeling that guests cause that constant full status on the server (correct me if I’m wrong there). Yes me transferring in won’t solve the problem but at least I’m waiting to transfer instead of adding to the guest problem this server seems to have.
I don’t know why people resurrected this old thread. Since Anet has lifted the server cap, we haven’t had much of a problem on TC. Old thread is an old thread that is not really a problem anymore.
The mods should probably close it.
As a native from TC I have to say this
