A plea from all Necromancers.
Sorry I didn’t mean to gloss over your point, was just interested in your input on the discussion.
No offense taken
What I’m saying in the end is that I don’t believe its actually out of any respect of phobia, its just a convenient tag.
Yes I think so too. Imagine that the mount would be available everywhere in Tyria: you could climb walls everywhere and reach places that were not supposed to be reached.

I absolutely despise spiders and yet I would still love to have a spider mount ingame.
I have severe arachnophobia… many of the pictures here made me feel physical responses of fear. I also use a necro. I would be ok with a spider mount as long as it isn’t too realistic. Unrealistic spiders don’t bother me, personally. However, I do think some people with this issue may not be able to play if they had to look at spiders all the time. So, I’m actually against this for that reason.

Yes, a mount would be pretty awesome. They have existing spiders to rob the animations from too.
Now I know most of you are locked into a spider as a creepy necro mount, may I make an additional suggestion. The creepiest NPC in the game (that still haunts my dreams). Poobadoo
I don’t understand how you are associating necromancy with spiders. If necromancers are associated with any animal it would be rats.
Yeah if anything, linking necromancy with spiders is further stereotyping and prejudice towards spiders – necromancers link to things like (modern day commercialised) Halloween, or GW2 style Halloween which some link with creepy crawly things such as spiders… because both are evil/invoke fear?
Nothing to do with dead things/raising the dead – and tbh then it’s a bit silly to complain that people should “get over” their phobias when this whole image and fear regarding spiders is being perpetuated by necromancy being associated with them.
For the record I don’t particularly like large spiders and shudder at the thought of coming into contact with things like tarantulas (I love jumping and harvester spiders though) but I’m happy to let them live wherever (I’ve got a resident right now living in the corner of the ceiling in my room, good to get rid of any flies etc).
All I was saying is this: If you’re just complaining about “Why no spoider mount Mr. Frodo?” then that isn’t the actual conversation.
The real question to ask it, “Why no spoider mount Mr. Frodo at the launch of the expansion?” There are – what – three or four other mount options? This isn’t like the pet on 1-9 professions or a few mobs in the open world. This is putting a premium expansion feature as something that is, at the very least, a divisive creature choice.
Why would they choose something divisive for the launch of their expansion when they are so many other options that are harmless? I cited World of Warcraft’s practices because comparing a MMORPG with mounts to another MMORPG with mounts was more apt and accurate than analogies about the real world or speculation from google searches.
as an edge mistress myself i completely support spider mounts and find it silly that arachnophobia is a thing that stops development. a lot of people fear heights yet you made a lot of vertical maps. its a game!!!
But why though? The only argument in this thread in favor of spider mounts is “they look cool”.
Looking cool is all well and good, but what do they add to the game? What does a spider do that a Bounder or Skimmer can’t? How does riding a spider add to the “joy of movement”? What obstacle does a spider help the player overcome that can’t already be overcome by any other skill or mount (including the Glider)?
Now, I wouldn’t be against arachnid skins (ideally for the Raptor or Bounder), but then consider this: does that not fundamentally change your relationship with the creatures? These, who are supposed to be your friends and allies as much as Braham or Taimi or Rytlock, are suddenly replaced by another creature with similar abilities? How can you have a relationship with this creature and grow together in the story if you’re just going to replace him five seconds later with the animal you actually wanted to ride? That’s like reading Black Beauty and saying “this sucks, I’d rather ride a triceratops!” or Old Yeller and saying “dogs suck, it should have been a slime monster!”. Of course, some people can’t or won’t understand… /shrug

Try using that argument when ANet starts selling gemstore mounts to replace the 4 we get in game. You’ll see people buying and switching them out so fast your head will spin. ^^
ANet may give it to you.
A spider would be cool because:
- it could climb walls
- it could spit poison
- it could set web traps
- it could consume its opponents
- it could fear its opponents
Yeah, far fetched I know but one can dream

Since Monty Python and the Holy Grail everyone should know and fear such horrible creatures. To banish spider mounts but introduce such horrible creature even as mounts….. There is no sensibility with these developers.
As a Revenant , I also support this cause . The more mounts , the better \o/ plus spider mount that climbs walls sounds pretty unique

Spider mount is too much but you guys have spider pets and spider enemies in the game… What… that makes no sense!
