i honestly can’t understand why they don’t release outfits as armour skins, they’d make so much more money,
for the small amount of additional effort involved in creating tooltips ad thumbnail art they’d end up making so much more money.

put it this way,
if outfits were armour skin sets i can’t really think of any that i wouldn’t have bought.
as it stands i bought 4-5 (long ago) and i don’t plan on buying any more.

Another issue is that you might not get the outfits as armor in the weight class you want. My understanding is that the armor classes have different splits between chest and legs. You might not be able to find a good split between the top and bottom for all classes, especially for those pieces with external frilly bits, like the bow on the female Shadow Assassin. (I suspect that’s why the helmets, shoulders and gloves are easier to make as separate pieces for all weight classes; they’re a lot less tied to each other than the chest and legs sections.) It may even be that it’s not possible to make certain outfits as separate head and chest pieces, like the Arcane and Wedding outfits.

There are exceptions; I’d love the Jungle Explorer outfit as part of a set of medium armor and there don’t seem to be any complications to my untrained eye, but I’d rather have it as an Outfit than as light or heavy armor, where it does me no good whatsoever.

As for the armor sets, I’ve seen some decent applications for the Aetherblade pieces, but then again you also get things like the Zodiac armor that nobody seems to be able to find a use for.

they say that, but before the wardrobe update ALL existing outfits were separate parts, wearable by all races, genders, classes with no issue.

plus the majority of existing armours have unnatural cut off points anyway,
have you tried mixing different chest and leg armours? many simply don’t mix.

so i don’t take “clipping” as an excuse since they clearly don’t care about clipping issues, seams or anything else that is apparent in the majority of armour that we have.

here is an idea,

break the outfits into slots
you still need to buy the whole thing for the same price, but you can pick and choose which goes where
so the chest of the slayer, the head of the cook the boots of the pirate… wtv.

…so basically skin packs without transmutation charge. Basically what i suggested way back when…

Why do you think Anet hasnt considered this?
If they wouldnt have a good reason to do this, they would have.

The only way outfits would ever be armor is if they were bound to a single armor weight, like all the other armor in the game (and, particularly, the other armor sets in the gem store).

they say that, but before the wardrobe update ALL existing outfits were separate parts, wearable by all races, genders, classes with no issue.

But not with actual armor, which is the point. Town clothes and outfits constitute a “fourth” armor weight unto themselves, incompatible with the other three (which in turn are incompatible with each other for technical reasons). A dev posted about it after the wardrobe update, I’m sure someone’s got the quote handy.
