I agree with the OP, I would like to see the return henchmen/heroes purely to be able to run instances. It’s not about being able to ‘solo’ the entire game but being able to do more things when there aren’t enough people about or when you’re in a ‘solo’ mood.

Seems a real shame this option isn’t available.

Welcome to GW2 where solo friendly is actually “solo” friendly.

Because playing with npc helpers is not solo friendly at all amirite?

i don’t think i’ve every seen a mmo that allowed multi boxing… for obvious reasons.

Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.

See above post by ArenaNet regarding multi- boxing, it is an exploit. ArenaNet needs to make an official announcement in a high profile location regarding this exploit as there are still too many players under the impression that it is acceptable.

Multi-boxing is a scourge. Particularly in WvW.

So you get to loot everything 4-5 times with the same effort that everyone else has to put in to loot once? How is that fair?

Multiboxing is a form of botting. I suppose the master character isn’t botting, but the ones following along with your keystrokes sure are.

That’s not really ArenaNet (as in the ones who make the rules). Those CC guys are like 3rd party support to control the forums. Regardless, from the context, they’re referring to multiboxing as the multiple bots running around in sync.

If you multibox with 2 computers, 2 keyboards and 2 mice, what then? You’re not breaking any rules. Now connect the keyboard and mouse to both computers. You’re still not breaking any rules. I’d like to see them ban someone for running 2 accounts, moving 1 character, then the next, all done manually. If they did that, thousands of people would be banned for just sharing IP addresses, since multiboxing with multiple computers cannot be detected any other way.

The only rule (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/) that actually has anything to do with multiboxing is 3rd party programs to automate gameplay functions. However, this only includes multiboxing when you have your keypresses setup to do different things on each client – such as a macro. Software multiboxing (using a program to mirror keypresses) is generally not considered automation.

If someone was to multibox 5 accounts in dungeons only, they’ll never get banned. They could even bot inside a dungeon and never get banned, unless they’re running a program on the watchlist. It’s not until someone reports you that it becomes an issue.

Either way, true multiboxing would be very difficult in GW2 since there’s no follow command. Eventually, the characters will become unsynced.

Most MMO’s allow it. From Everquest to Eve to WoW (in fact there is an entire website to help players multibox and do instances).

Edit: No Multiboxing has nothing to do with botting (botting = no player active at the PC thus a “bot” is playing).

Most game developers allow multiboxing in their games. To date, Age of Conan, Aion, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dungeons and Dragons Online, EVE Online, Lord of the Rings Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Lineage, Lineage II, Ultima Online, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft all allow multiboxing. The Chronicles of Spellborn and Rift allow hardware multiboxing, but prohibit software multiboxing. Game publishers do not provide technical support for multiboxing, so while it may be allowed, you may find certain games are not designed to be multiboxed.5 6 – Pulled from Wikipedia so /shrug

I hope to God they never allow multboxing in this game. Anybody who can sit there with a straight face and say it doesn’t affect the game is either kidding themselves, or just an outright liar. With all materials being able to be gathered by everybody (in other words it doesn’t disappear when somebody mines it) it most certainly DOES give the multiboxer an unfair advantage, as they will gather x-times as many materials as anybody playing the game as it should be played.

Multiboxing has no place in MMOs, end of story.

And save yourself the time of trying to convince me otherwise.

I for one am glad they aren’t allowing multiboxing. This is one thing Blizzard always allowed (and we know why) which I felt shouldn’t have been.

Yes because you are not only endorsing somthing tha destroys game economies but also saying “i want to play a Massively Sigleplayer Online Game”

Excuess me you are incorrect. It does not destroy the game economy. What destroys the economy is gold sellers and bots. A bot does all its actions alone without any human contact needed. What I am saying in my post is why cant I purchase 3 more guild wars 2 accounts and have 4 character’s logged into the game at the same time while I have a program that repeats all my keystrokes and mouse movement/clicks to all other game clients. It takes a human to do it, it also takes real life cash. Something I would rather do then deal with 85%+ of people that I just do not want to know.

Welcome to botting. Three out of the four accounts are not requiring that “human interaction”. Now get over it. If you don’t like people, either go play something else, or just ignore the dungeons, etc that (nearly) require more than one person.

I just skimmed this and didn’t see this mentioned, but felt it was worth pointing out. You keep referencing back to GW1 as an MMO. Guild Wars was NOT an MMO. It was a single player RPG with an optional multiplayer aspect. In the making of book that comes with the CE of GW2, Arenanet even says explicitly that they NEVER said GW1 was an MMO. It was mistakenly reviewed as an MMO by game companies and hence forth mislabeled as one by the general community.

That being said, THAT’S why you had henchmen in GW1. It was, for all intents and purposes, a single player game. GW2 is a persistent MMO. The second M is for multiplayer, unlike GW1. Henchmen are not needed, nor do they make sense in GW2.

You are aware that GW1 didn’t start out having Heroes or secondary professions. So, just because GW2 didn’t start out with those features doesn’t mean it won’t end up having it, if there’s enough demand.

Wut? GW1 started with secondary professions. There were no heroes, but there were henchmen and there certainly were secondary professions.
