The theory is that Anet DOES, in fact, hate Engineers and that they balance everything else around this fact. Thoughts?

Engineers are for people who actually know how to play the game, warriors are for those who don’t. Rangers are for everyone in between the extremes.

I don’t think they hate Engineers.
Colin plays an engineer.
I think Warriors are just their version of the flagship class: easiest, most played, uses legendary GS etc.

Face it people who plays Engineers as a main has a peculiar mindset- part masochist, part anarchist, part pyromaniac, part stubborn, part mad scientist and with a high skill level.
People who like that are always going to like it but there aren’t that many of us.

Visually they suck – Legendary Freedoms are restricted due to internal weapon designs, and skins and legendaries conflict with weapon kits, making them in a major sense cosmetically redundant.
The skillset.. It feels lacklustre. I mean, it’s strong because I’ve been playing my engineer since Day 1 of release. But they don’t feel particularly strong compared to other classes.
They have little mobility. The only class in the game that can’t use constant or spammable Swiftness abilities (This includes all those Speed Signets).
They’re too random. I NEED STEALTH TO GET PAST THIS CHAMPION KARKA FOR ORILACHIUM NODE. NOPE. I GET STABILITY INSTEAD \o/ [/end sarcasm]. I mean, okay, I get the whole “Mix this and this and Boom! Invention axe” thematics, but a bit of consistency is nice.

Horrendous çooldowns. |: And their utility is kinda meh. Their stealth from Toss Elixir S only covers 6 or 7 allies, and everything else is purely self effective, save for damage abilities and a couple of combo fields.

They could have been made ALOT better IMHO.

I do not suck visually thank you very much.
While the legendary issue is a valid one I have no interest in either Quip or the Predator.

Not strong compared to what?
I feel pretty strong, in fact when I just want to blow off steam I load my Engi- the havoc she can cause is second to none.

Mobility- they have rocket boots! rocket boots!
Who wants to run like a little jackalope on speed when you have Rocket boots!?

If you need stealth get a couple of Whispers spy kits- I like having stability -it is so difficult to look bad kitten when you are thrown around like a sock

Utility is great for me, I would say second only to Mesmer.
Cooldowns are also not a problem since I swap kits so much

BTW what is it with you and stealth?

Why?

It’s a perception issue, there are many people that simply haven’t figured out how to play one well. There are of course certain glaring flaws like turret and elixir builds are pretty lackluster for dungeons. If players don’t mind playing a multikit build based around the gk,bk,eg kits they can crank out damage on par with a warrior but the timing is tighter to keep the skills on cd so it requires more careful management. They don’t really bring any kind of unique buff to a group like a banner of discipline, spotter, timewarp etc etc. Basically though they can do a bit of everything, but they really don’t excel at anything that other classes can’t also do well except solo stacking vuln to 25. So I don’t agree that they are terribad but they do require a bit more coordination with your group and yourself to get the most out of them, which makes them a bit less pug/faceroll friendly in many scenarios. Having said all this it is my favorite class in the game to play because of the high APM relative to most other classes.

So basically you play a elixir engi and base your arguments on that I take it. Never mind that we can drop like 4-5 blast finishers on our own in one combo field, and that with a p/s ht, gk, bk, eg setup you have access to water, fire, light, and smoke fields which you can blast in, you also have low cd group condi removal from fumigate, tons of cc and since you are switching kits so often you have permanent swift + vigor. But yes it does require very tight timing to pull all the things off that you can do with an engineer so I guess it’s not for everyone.

Whisper spy kits? .-.

Do elaborate, please.

Utility wise, please elaborate aswell, because I see very little utility on my Asura Engineer, barring elixir tosses (Inconsistency syndrome here) and Supply Crate. I don’t swap kits alot, admittedly. But even in that, your kit-abilities still have cooldowns. Rocket boots are not mobility. It’s not even targetable. You just jump forward a distance, loosing CC. It feels alot like it should include a single evade, or a movement speed boost after, to be honest.

And again. Consistency is like.. Non-existent on engineer. elixir X, Elixir B, Elixir C, Elixir U. All random skills. You can’t plan an attack with randomness. If I wanted randomness, I can play a Mesmer with all their random boons here and there and everywhere, thanks.

The turrets also feel like a lacklustre version of Necro-Minions. They also pull aggro on neutral enemies. They should also make it so they actually deal damage on destruction. Firing rate is often slowl

Again, I’m not saying they’re completely useless. But I can see MANY things beyond what I’ve just listed that ANet could have given them. And the funny thing is, these things – if they polished them a little, I’m extremely doubtful that they’d end up overpowered.

Engineer turrets have been broken in some way or another since beta. Literally every bug fix introduced another bug.

Now that the turret traits actually work, there’s a bug where all turrets get downscaled twice. If you’re level 80 in a level 40 zone, your skill will properly drop a level 40 turret. But then that level 40 turret’s stats get downscaled by the same fraction that a level 80 character would. Whoohoo. No fix in sight, it’s been like this for a long time. That’s FIVE basic utility skills (rifle, rocket, net, flame, thumper) and one elite skill (supply drop) that are all severely broken.

Only one weapon set can be equipped because we have kits, but now kits can’t have ascended damage. And they still take up a utility slot. Whoohoo.

OK Utilities:
I don’t play my engi like you do yours at all but from just my kits I have:
several burn, stun, poison, bleed, chill, blind, push.
That is from flamethrower and grenade kit which I run mostly.
With that I use elixer B which gives me fury, might retaliation, swiftness.
It can also give one of those to allies- yes this one is random.

None of those are random and I am not including combo’s here.
Neither do I include toolbelt skills

If you cannot plan an attack with those I don’t know what to say.
Oh and I have dual pistols but you were talking utilities

can’t say that I have ever really found my Mesmer random either.
It depends on what you pick to play with
