Um…that link goes to an error. Why don’t you just state what it’s about, instead. =)

Is it the ‘Game Designer – Raid Content’ position that is open?

Ohh I thought I fixed the link ohh dear okay I will edit my OP with the posting. Did the link for convenience.

@Inculpatus: Hmm basically we can be seeing some high end dungeons that will require more members. More end game content where high end rewards are given for prestige and challenge. I know with some raids people are worried about elistism ,but I’m sure people will be helpful if they ask ya know ;3.

I never really understand the positions they have open. Many of them seem to be already filled. Does it mean there will be two ‘Heads of X Department’? Or someone is going to lose their job?

I do notice some of the Game Design positions are new…

Yea…hmm makes me wonder whats gonna happen now. The guild CDIs as well can mean that alot of content is down the pike maybe.

I think raid like content would be pretty great. controlled organization and difficult for large groups would be really cool. Would give me a reason to search for a guild.
Are we to really believe that there are 3 million players? Best retention rate ever.

This is really promising. Hopefully this is what the AI guy was working on.
Could be a big reason for the megaserver as well. Taking a bunch of people out of the world and putting them in an instance won’t be such a big problem now.

Perhaps it implies something about official GvGs? They might want someone experienced in larger scale combat design, and they’re also getting some CDIs going on guild halls (they mentioned one for GvG in the future). While GW1 had an 8v8 format, maybe they’d go for something larger here.

Or perhaps it just has something to do with future boss encounters. Many previous updates have included new large-scale boss encounters (i.e. jungle wurm, marionette, battle for LA, &c.), so they might just be looking to add another person who’s experienced in designing and creating scenarios of that scale.

well one of the job postings were dealing with PvP so GvG would apply there more than anything and GvG is the next CDI topic to as well.

Raid would be really cool, but:

1. IMO. They must simply be done really well, but game shows, that theres possibilities to do it. For example, Liadri boss was interesting, and requiring much skill and effort. Doing something like this on a large scale for a guild would be great.
Anyway, everyone must have a role in the group – if some1 fails, then raid dies.

2. There should be no restrictions. If some guild want to make raid for 8 players – why not. Let them do it. They can sign up by 10, 15,20,25, or even 50 too Content should be scaled according to the number of people involved. 8 or10 would be a minimum.

hard to say. It could also be there is a logical split. Like say Department X might have 2 versions one for a portion of the company working say on an expansion and on for the part working on live updates.

I’ve never played a game with raids, but from what I’ve heard about them I’d be interested to see how it could work in GW2.

The main thing I’ve heard against them is that a lot of people seem to see raids as synonymous with gear grind, but I assume that wouldn’t be the case here. I have no idea what the rewards could be, but I actually think it could be more interesting if they made it simply a title or something, so the focus is more on playing through the content for it’s own sake.

There was a VERY brief mention by a developer during the CDI a few weeks of “guild raids.” Hopefully this is in support of that concept.

Even if its just someone working on world boss encounters though, it’s a positive thing.

Yeah, gear isnt that important. People just want to have a fun and challenges for a guilds – nothing more. The prizes can be something like a titles, minies, gold, rares, exotics, chance to drop precursor, influence, merits, etc, etc stuff. Like now… guild missions
do not give us any great reward, but its really cool to do it together with the guild. Unfortunately guild missions been very neglected :|

Also guilds cant do World Bosses – as the name says, they’re WORLD bosses. Of course, I’m not talking here about mass-guilds, which have hundreds of players online – these are not the guilds. I do not know how to call it.

there is no reason to overreact. There is no general binding definition what a “raid” actually is. Just because other games made them time consuming and grindy does not mean you cannot create “casual” ones.

There is already stuff like this in game. Teq, Evolved Worm, some guild missions – not to mention Fractals, which in the time department dwarf a lot of raids in other games already. Does not even have to be for large groups, 8 is already done, 12 is already done in the industry. One may argue that GW2s dungeons are “raidish” content already. The only thing one could hope for is interesting mechanics instead of inflated HP bosses. But Anet has proven they can do this, they just chose the easy way out more often in the past

1. IF they are adding raids , it will be a LOOONG time before we even see something added to the game. This is anet. it took them almost 2 years to figure out healing signet needed a nerf. Development for a raid would take at least a couple years lol

2. It’s most likely going to be Guild raids, which would absolutely be a blast. More guild relating activity is a must for the longterm health of this game… If more Guilds start disbanding, this game is done. There needs to be more guild related activity, period. That’s the biggest reason gamers play MMOs – to do fun activities as a group.

Unfortuntely, anet dropped the ball when we could have something like this earlier… not saying its too late, but lets be real, we aren’t going to see any new guild related content anytime soon. development is at a snails pace for anet, unless its LS or gemstore related…

I don’t believe it’s good to assume that someone “in the industry”, who has done similar content, only knows how to create content that sticks to the “standard formulas for this type of gameplay”. Many times developers “in the industry” are much more creative than they are allowed to be. You’d be quite surprised.

Also to add on CDI help the devs out to know where to focus the resources on as well if said content was put into the game. In other words gives them a more clear vision.

From job posting to job being filled can be as little as a month to as long as a year. Then that person needs to be brought up to speed on current plans. Then that person needs to design and code whatever is thought up. Then the design and code needs to be fleshed out and tested. This is not something that will show up in game for at least 6-8 months.

I’ve never played a game with raids, but from what I’ve heard about them they sound like basically dungeons designed for bigger groups and with harder content (or more complex mechanics).

I’ve heard of people doing non-instanced raids on servers that allow open-world PvP, so you can end up fighting other groups. But I’ve never heard of non-PvE raids.

By PvE raids Azizul likely meant open world raids. Because, for Anet, Tequatl, Wurm and Marionette are considered raid content.

Well, with those qualifications we can now see why the game industry has gone to crud. All hail corporatism and the bloody milestone! Here’s an idea:

Qualification:
Having played Ultima Online, EQ, DAoC, WoW, Eve Online, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Game Cube PS, PS2, PS3, Xbox… for more than a year each.

Have had ‘fun’ at some point in your life.

Have played Zelda.

Have had or enjoy caring for children of all ages (as more than an abstract feeling invented in your head (heart if you have one) at the moment of reading this)

Understand the concept of ‘environment’ as it relates to the word ‘terrain’ where terrain might be: water, desert, forest, plain, mountains, etc

Understand the concepts: themed music (no more Jeremy Soule Skyrim blurb)

Understand when the staff under you has never played a video game and therefore cannot contribute to their design process in any meaningfully way.

Understand when your ‘superiors’ are in it for the dollars/euro/whatever and don’t know when they have shot themselves in the foot (if not to save them from bleeding out then to keep your job afloat).

Understand the concept of ‘balance’ and ‘raid content’: beat any or all Zelda games today, then play WoW on version 1.12 to 3.3.3a (if you can find a server). Reference youtube if your passion is too low. If your passion is too low remove yourself from this career path to save us the trouble of hating you.

Understanding having a ‘vision’ is good, having a means is necessary.

Understand that if you have never climbed a mountain you should not be making terrain content having to do with mountains.

Understand if you have never had the passion to climb a tree if your life because it was there you probably shouldn’t be designing games. Possibly consider a career as a new age speaker.

Understand that roleplay is a form of ‘acting’, a requisite to having convincing voiced content: If you do not understand what roleplay is or its value please refer to Game of Thrones HBO, Mass Effect, Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles read by Nick Podehl. Game of Thrones… read by any of them, Dresden Files read by James Masters. If you need to understand any of this find another career path or seriously reevaluate if you are not an agent of some force of destruction serving to further kitten the creative industry.

Understand that if you are an American from the United States your social media has been horrid for nearly two decades creating a shut-in culture not dissimilar to that predicted by the Japanese movie Kairo. The rest of the world is not as hostile to the concept of community as you have likely grown up with. Stop painting the world in black!

Understand if you need to understand any of this you are not qualified to work in the creative industry with innovation. Please go home, save us from yourself, and start trying to discover the concepts of imagination, fun, creativity, self-confidence (again corporate music industry like profiteering), and whatever the root of your hatred for humanity stems from.
