Any sign of a real FoV fix from Arenanet yet?
You called him out on it without any proof and put in sentences stating that in your opinion most of such cases are a bunch of BS. I take offense to that. I don’t like people having no empathy and going “I don’t have it, therefore most cases are BS”. By the way there’s a difference between stating “I don’t’ believe you”, even though you should have no reason not to and writing a paragraph about how everything is complete BS.
You can take offense all you want but just because you take offense to it doesn’t classify it as an insult. I found that out the hard way when I talked with a Harassment adviser about a superior. At no point and in no way does my reply (or any of them for that matter) state or even imply that “I don’t have it, therefore most cases are BS”. Yet another misconception or more likely you wanting to believe the worst to make yourself feel better. Wanna know what it says as a two liner? “In my experience, most times that someone puts up such a complaint it turned out to be a lie. Primarily because these complaints are more often seen on the forums of games where an unfair advantage is obtainable than they are on game forums that offer no advantage at all.”
It’s simple logic.
It’s apples and oranges. I’m not a judge and they are not on trial.
To a food store, yes, not to a clothing store though, not to a game store, not to a movie store, not to a cinema or other buildings providing entertainment. For some games are probably the thing keeping them from committing suicide. Our reality is sometimes not what we want it to be and we require means to escape it only for just a little bit. Saying “abandon your hobby” instead of “we can fix it” is simply cold hearted.
Lol, what? Um, mobility in general is a quality of life thing..
If that’s the case then such a person is in dire need of professional help. I’m being absolutely sincere by saying so.
Well then you can think of me as Kevin O’Leary on The Dragon’s Den.
I too believe in the “Cold Hard Truth”.
There have been several threads asking what mods are okay and what are not. Anet allowed several shader, graphics mods, various overlays as well. If all it does is messes with the graphics and does not give you an advantage, it’s normally allowed, so my statement stands – what kind of advantage do you get by setting your horizontal FoV to 90 instead of 65?
That’s for ANet/NCSoft to answer. Although I haven’t gone searching, it looks to me that they already gave a reason for not doing it.
Yeah, I’m generally opposed to Deanham throughout this conversation… but when people start pulling out the “I need this game to deal with my irl stress and not commit suicide”, I’m more on the “You have problems far beyond what is reasonable for this discussion” side of the fence.
That being said, FoV sliders on featured on other MMO’s and GW2 even supports setups that drastically expand your FoV, so… I’m not sure where the argument is here. If ANet is going to ban the guy for his 3rd party tool, they’re going to ban him. Nothing you do or say is going to make this more or less likely (aside from reporting), so a lot of this has been blown-out-of-proportion posturing and yelling at one another.

I’m just trying to say that video games hold our moods higher and overall that’s a good thing, therefore “don’t play it” is not a solution and shouldn’t be said.
“you can live without it” you can live without a lot of things. Restaurants, movies, hunting, doing sports. Heck you can survive on the streets out of food alone. It’s nice that for him Video games are not his primary hobby and he is not attempting to get into the industry by studying programming, but for some of us it is. For some of us it’s both our future/ present work and our hobby. We’re very passionate about it, so in my opinion sentences such as “deal with it” and “stop playing games” shouldn’t be thrown around when the issue is easy to fix.
Are you kidding me ? What you have been using is a bannable offense, you by using a Fov hack gain advantage over other players who are not being able to zoom out and see as far as you can,by using that hack you can also use ac’s to shoot at places no other person can without that tool.
Im glad the latest patch broke your tool,i hope it stays that way.
Also, smart for posting this…This post should be deleted for being not only rude but downright silly. OP, I can assure you that the number of people who actually believe this inane rambling are slim at best.
You must have never played WvW. Anyone who has would know how annoying and unfair such programs are. In PvE, I doubt anyone cares. But WvW is meant to be a fun and competitive activity. And when someone uses a program to allow them to use ACs in ways that aren’t intended, it doesn’t make for a very good time.
This, this, this, this times 1,000,000! I have no sympathy for anyone who uses these 3rd party tools. Anet specifically said 3rd party mods were a bannable offense (a quick search will yield many threads on the subject), and people caught using them would be subsequently banned. Sure it doesn’t matter in PvE, but they ruin WvW. People are able to see OVER castle walls and hit players with their arrow cart AOE in places that they shouldn’t be able to hit at all. Worst of all, you can not counter them unless someone else is using the same 3rd party camera tool. It’s basically cheating.
Since there is no way to distinguish people who need the tool because they get motion sickness, and people who will use it to cheat, Anet has chosen the “It’s not allowed” route.
-edit- I do know the difference between field of view (FoV) and camera distance zooming. I wasn’t sure 100% which one he was referring to, but I have no problem with an FoV tweak (typically something that can be changed in an .ini file). I am opposed to the camera zoom tool.

They’ve actually said that third party tools that give an advantage over other players is a bannable offense, not a blanket “any third party tool”.
Just a minor quibble with that statement.
What in the world is wrong with you…? I just ….First of all,im not being “mean” if you think i am then please, grow some balls. Im just sick of seeing hackers in the only aspect of this game i still like to be doing,if hackers start to ruin that aspect aswell,i might aswell not play at all anymore. There are LOADS of people using these hacks in wvw and its killing wvw for what it is on a regular base.I dont care what kind of lame excuse people bring up to use some kitten fov tool to have an advantage over other people. And in any case,he should go see a kitten doctor instead of complaining about his HACK not working again since the latest patch.Everything this guy said screams “I am an idiot please ban me”,but that will probably sound mean to you aswell.
No, something is wrong with you. You’re fighting against a slider being put into the game that everyone could use (and is not a hack) and direct people to doctors, that can only advise you so much about the lighting, dietary choices, but can’t fix the way your brain comprehends 3D objects, instead of allowing them to have a simple fix that would help everybody.

I’m not fighting against a slider being put in this game, can you kitten people learn to read ? Hes was/is Using a hack that gave him a huge advantage over other people and now he cant use it anymore, and he’s basically asking anet why his HACK ( Really smart thing to do here btw…this just actually says enough about the person in question, making a Post on the Official Anet forum asking why his HACK doesnt work anymore….Pure intelligence right there ) does not work anymore….LEARN..TO…READ.

LEARN..TO…READ.
Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.
The world in Guild Wars 2 would look amazing with a FoV slider, currently you miss most of it because you are looking at the floor.
I guess my 3 monitor eyefinity display which GW 2 supports and automatically increases the FoV is a bannable offense.
This should give people a hint, increasing the FOV is okay.
If ANet is against it, they would change how resolution affects the FOV.
FOV slider (limits to ~120°) for everyone, everybody is happy.

Tell me the advantage of 90 horizontal FoV over 65 in a third person game. You might have a case if it was a first person game. You might still have a case if the tool in question is the same one that people were using as a zoom tool to see trough walls. If all it did was increase the FoV then there’s no advantage with that.

I’m pretty sure that it’s FoV and not zoom.

Can’t have a case here, it is already possible to change FOV (wider screen/ajust resolution).
Based on what the op is saying, since that’s where the argument came from, it is only a FOV tool.
So, no logical reason to be this fire up against someone using 3rd tool to change his FOV.

Are you people absolutely dense or what ? ARROWCARTS and WVWV + a Fov Hack tool is giving anyone using that kind of tool a HUGE advntage over other people, besides this there are many more situations where a wider Fov will grant you a big advantage over other people, but i Doubt it will be read anyway because you people seem to have a problem with that.
A solution to this problem, would be to allow people with lower FOV settings to simply zoom out more, so the visible area is equal for everyone, regardless of FOV.
But I really want to see this feature. GW2’s tunnel vision FOV is really tiresome and nauseating after a while.
