Ascended Armor Grind
Just thought I would add that I calculated it up in the Black Lion forums…
1 Light WupWup Ascended Chest Piece requires no less than 7003 materials.
That’s an absurdly high amount.
I’m sure that John Smith was primarily concerned with implementing a material sink to offset the mass generation of materials (that are then never used.)
It’ll backfire in the long run, as most people don’t seem to consider Ascended gear worthwhile to craft. Someone in LA was saying that they crafted a full set, and didn’t really notice a difference to justify their investment.
(On top of that, people that do decide to craft Ascended armor will likely just do it once… and then Transmute whatever skin they want onto that armor.)
GW1 had better material sinks, in that you had to have specific materials for each armor skin.
People are willing to grind for skins… but there’s not really many decent craftable skins.
See: Primary appeal of GW1… Horizontal progression. Grind for prestige armors.
If there were, then perhaps we wouldn’t have the overabundance of materials that we do.
The tp kinda has a different effect, it made everything too easy to obtain. In gw1 in or to buy or sell yes you had to go to town. However what were you not doing at the same time? Farming. In gw2 I can auto attack a champ while buying and selling on the tp. Many people like an item because it’s hard to get.
Well, the TP is responsible for one of the biggest gold sinks in the game… (15% of all gold in trades removed from gameplay)
It’s definitely nice that it’s convenient.
Also, the whole auto-attack thing is more about the fact that Champs can’t really deal with a huge swarm of people.
People basically break the mechanics of the game. A champ may have a OHKO, but that just downs one person (while the other 10 people nearby hit F to rally said person).
I blame that more on the whole open-world thing.
ArenaNet, for its part, has learned not to reward the zerg.
See: Drops on mobs in the Marionette and Wurm events.
Marionette mobs occasionally drop code fragments (of which you need 25 to be useful).
Champ Husks (on the way to the Wurms, not the ones at the Wurm itself) drop champ bags, but beyond that… All the other mobs are trash. No reward.
However, the lack of reward for trash mobs then decreases incentive for people to participate in failing events (in my mind).
We also need a possibility to exchange ascended weapon boxes. A week ago I got my first decent drop in 18 months of playing GW2: an ascended weapon box. Sadly the stats are useless to me (Magi), so the box went straight on my mule. Needless to say that it is highly frustrating especially because I just spent all of my gold and materials to raise another crafting profession to 500 and that little boost would have been very welcome.
Yep, my 2 ascended armor drops have both had stats that I don’t use.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
The tp may be the biggest gold sink but at the same time its the biggest backpack. it kinda counteracts itself. DR and sheer bordem is the only deterrents against nonstop farming. that hasnt really worked out too well.
However, the lack of reward for trash mobs then decreases incentive for people to participate in failing events (in my mind).
This is absolutely necessarysadly. It was waaaay to easy to abuse.
The problem was never the grind.
The problem is the reward.
In it’s current state – Ascended gear is not worth the time investment or cost.
The reason this post is even being made is due to the above statement.
