So, I really need help in picking between those two races. I mean, I needed a kittenon of time do decide which profession to pick (engineer, as he is the most versatile and I wont get bored I hope), mind you I am playing since the first beta :/, but now my second dilemma is here:

I won’t play Norn, too clumsy. Same goes for Charr. Humans are humans, way too boring.

So my decision lay between Asura and Sylvari. I really love how the asura behave, their personal story and all that, but I don’t like that they are so tiny, and I would actually like to see my long farmed armor
Now with Sylvari, the Story is pretty decent, their looks are good, but I don’t like their attitude and story as much as the asura one.

So, I would really appreciate any kind of support on this dilemma.

I suggest you gather the opinion of Sylvari and Asura alike.

As an asura I would like to point out our intellect, good looks (observe these luxurious ears!), our high technology and mod cons in what is a backwater cesspit of a world (We built our city in the air so it doesn’t have to sit amongst the filth and grime) – we have golem servants and workers so we may follow intellectual and private pursuits, etheric entertainment such as television and radio.

We also have robotic assault armour, kinetic shielding and energy weapons, and some of the best cultural fashions, and Rata Sum is the epitomy of convenience in terms of layout of important facilities,

As for whatever my esteemed sylvari collegues may tell you in favour of his… her… IT’S own race, might I remind you: Do you value the opinion of a houseplant?

Thats why I would play asura, sir!

But I could make my Sylvari like an asura, he dreamt of them, behaves like the etc.

Female Asura have the best voice acting and script in the game IMO. By far. I was actually thinking of filling all my slots with female Asura of different professions.

I actually like the male asura’s dialogue more, more intellectual and less snarky.

ie. Retaliation: “Feedback loop initiated!” Vs “C’mon try and hit me!”

Of course, female has one of the best random combat ready quotes of any race:
“You’re dumb. You’re gonna die and you’ll leave a dumb corpse!”

On a different note though, Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard!) is listed as having done “female Sylvari” voiceovers, dunno if thats the female player character or some NPC but… Commander Shepard is a sylvari :p

Asura is the only race I haven’t tried yet, so I don’t know much about their story. I find the whole arrogance thing kind of offputting, but one positive is that you feel like you are moving a bit faster since the asura take so many steps (compared to the strides of larger races). This might help in jumping puzzles (I find my rhythm gets thrown off when I do puzzles with larger races just because it feels like they are moving slower). On the other hand, if there are other people doing the puzzle, it’s harder to see your toon since he’s so small. Not being able to see the armor very well would bug me, but I do think the profession fits. Personally, I try to match up profession with race and asura and charr are natural fits for an engineer.

I’ve played all of the races and i can assure you that the Sylvari are the best and most intriguing of all the other races. They are also the most mysterious, and even after all this time many people STILL don’t have much idea about them!

There are so many theories as to what the Sylvari could be; one of the most interesting theories floating around atm is how the Pale Tree (the mother of all Sylvari) might actually be an Elder Dragon herself. Not only that, the Sylvari are the ONLY race in Tyria who are completely immune to the corruption of the Elder Dragons, while the Asura are usually the first to fall victim. Their story lines are also the most heavily factored on destroying the Dragon problems so if you are into that mindset then Sylvari is the way to go.

One of the main things to me when choosing a race is the in-game voice when you are in combat and perform actions. You are going to hear those quotes over and over for the life of your character so they better be agreeable to you.

I would personally make the races and play them up a couple levels, see how they look and sound when you are actually playing them in the world, and then make your decision.

If you make a choice and then hate the combat quote voice or whatever else, you will probably never really like playing that character.

for me personally it does not matter how interesting the sylvari are or anything else, i cant stand the guys voice. i will never play a sylvari because of it.

I love asura and their animations are the best. The problem I’m finding with them is that armor and weapons are so small they are hard to see in the world. Since the point of the game is to be the prettiest princess, this may be a factor for you.

I don’t really like the salad people.
