BETA!!
I got the invite! Thanks Anet, can’t wait.
Woot!!!
Have they answered why the beta is human-only?
Looking forward to tomorrow.
They’ve not said, but given that newly made Beta characters will automatically appear in the Beta area, it’s quite likely that there’s a bit of code in that moves said characters from Queensdale to the new area automatically. They could do that for all five races, but it’s easier to just limit it to one.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I don’t want to start a new guy then have him disappear after the beta is done.

Gratz everyone! My email address for this account is an old one I can’t access any more, so I’ll never know if I got an invite or not LOL…like Shroedinger’s cat XD
Have fun Tuesday guys!
Since acceptance isn’t required, you can always just try it on that time Tuesday.
“When the test starts, log in to your invited account.
Click the Create Beta Character button.
Create a new human character. (All professions will be available, including the new revenant profession.)
Log in with your beta character to be taken to the beta testing area.”You might want to go ahead and contact support to change your email to one you do have access to. You never know when this might be useful and it can take days for a ticket to process.
Ohhhh I never thought of that LOL… brilliant idea, I’ll give it a try, thanks!
@JustTrogdor, what if Im already playing the game? Do I need to log out and log back in? Will said new character be lvl 80 automatically? If I go to the heart of the mist and pvp, will stronghold be an option in my list of maps when Im done queing?
I guess, Ive just never seen the Create Beta Character button. Im guessing it will be somewhere on the character select screen.
I would assume you’d have to at least log to character creation screen at the said time, since you have to click that button for creating a beta character. I believe it will be auto level 80 with all necessary weapons/skills unlocked. You won’t have time to go shopping or leveling.

There is no way in the world they could let people make beta characters that persist to live. Beta will be full of bugs and exploitable things. It will include access to accelerated masteries and to achievements, to gear and loot not yet available in live. Plus beta encourages actively seeking exploits and trying to break the game; you don’t get to use your ill-gotten gains on your real account.
I admit I was sad that I got Donari’s face just right early on in a beta but even with screenshotted sliders he never came out quite the same again. But all the times I made him and all the professions he was gave me a lot of time to get to know him so RP flowed smoothly right through launch, without me being locked in to his first iteration.
Anyway, if you don’t want to get too attached, don’t spend time customizing. Use whatever default look they give you and just get to testing mechanics.
I don’t understand why ANet “should have been more selective” in who got picked for this stress test. As I understand it, the purpose is to tax the system. It doesn’t require that I have specialized knowledge of GW lore or am a dungeon runner or a PvPer. I think my job is simply to log in and play around and report any errors I happen to see, but I also expect lots of lag, DCs, etc. That doesn’t require any special skill does it? We are all special snowflakes…. meaning none of us are special. We don’t need to be.
Well in order to tax their system you’d think anet would select testers from their current pool of players, or people that actually log in.
I want to know if I need to have a free character slot to participate….I don’t have a free slot.
Anet will be providing you an additional character slot for the stress tests and many already have it visible on their account for tomorrows test.

Depends on the selection process, but generally you want as wide a spectrum of hardware/software combinations as you can, including in as many locations in the world that you can.
I guess anyone anyone not loyal enough to get in the beta is a clear sign that someone is sending a clear message that if your not in that list of loyal players your just not good enough. A symbol that anyone not in the beta should stop spending Monies in the BLT. If you didn’t meet this mystical requirment

Or on a more realistic note, people should understand that they can’t include every single person on the list on the very first test.
Kitten, I don’t think anyone on these forums would deny that I usually supports ArenaNet quite a bit (both by buying gems and by discussion on these and other forums) and yet I did not get an invite to the first test.
You don’t see me raging about that, simply because I understand that not everyone will be able to fit in the first small test.

Have you every googled this before?
I don’t know if anyone asked this, but is the beta 12 noon PST or PDT? Is it 12 noon server time, or one hour off that. I’m asking because I’m on Eastern Daylight Time and the server clock is, for some odd reason 4 hours off local time, not 3. I would have thought server would be running on PDT, but maybe the servers are “exceptional”

Server time is GMT/UTC.
The email states that the test starts at noon PACIFIC time.
About Donari’s post, yes they actively looking for bugs, but do NOT do what I did one time in a beta. I and a friend discovered a exploit bug and did not report it. We moved objects around in the game for four days with the developers trying to figure out what was happening. People had been reporting items disappearing from their packs and the developers were sidetracked trying to tie the objects we placed with the missing items. This was obviously in my younger years. I don’t even know how much money was wasted looking for the connection between the two phenomena. No one caught us, but we did fess up after 4 days via posting an image of the crime. We got a scolding and a ROFLMAO from the devs, but this kind of behavior does delay the release of software expansions.
Oh….thanks…..I forgot that server time had been changed. I haven’t used the server clock in years in this game.
So I assume it’s PDT?
The email just says “Pacific” but right now it’s 5 minutes to 9 Pacific, so the test begins in 3 hours 5 minutes.
I’m lucky enough that my time zone (eastern) is always in lockstep with pacific by a 3 hour difference, and I grew up on both coasts and have family on both coasts, so it’s second nature for me to allow for the time difference.
Be ready in three hours from when I posted this and you’ll be good to go.
Just go to Google and type in “What is current Pacific Time” and Google will tell you precisely.
Yep…that’s what I concluded….3 pm EDT. Thanks. If what you say is the case, then it’s Pacific Daylight Time as opposed to Pacific Standard Time. I’ll go with that.
btw, Arizona and Hawaii are the only U.S. states that do not observe Daylight Savings time.
If i pimp out my beta character in all ascended gear, am i going to loose the items when its over?

Please note that your beta activity—including character development, account-based development, and spent currencies—won’t impact your live Guild Wars 2 account. Your beta progress will be saved for the duration of the stress test, but all beta characters and beta account progress may be deleted at the end of the test period.
So don’t mail myself stuff…thnx
And suddenly, I am really happy I didn’t get picked – I wouldn’t have been able to participate anyway due to work. So I wish every beta tester heaps of fun
Well, I logged in, but no Beta for me /shrug
I hope those guys are having fun though! Well more to the point I hope they come here right away afterwards to tell us all about it lol (I bet every single one of them rolled a Rev )
I didn’t get a beta access nor did I know it was going on until it was to late. I don’t really care though as it may not even work well with my terrible laptop. I can barely do much as is in the main game. No WvW or tequatal or triple trouble for me. I just farm materials play the TP, and RP.
When the expansion comes out I may have a new pc for it but now I
don’t even want to try playing even if its a few hours on a beta, I may not even enjoy it.
Well that was fun.. I want my Revenant back..and a salvage kit!!
OK here is my view point on BETAs ..
NO THANK YOU just NO
If you was doing beta tests RIGHT it is like work .. there is a lot of feed back you have to give just to try out new stuff which when released you are tired of doing already ..
BUT this is only my opinion and not the opinion of the network or station
