Tyria isnt really a happy world. The various races seem locked in a fight to their own survival against the Elder Dragons.
Bandits and Centaurs, Flame Legion, Sons of Svanir stand right at the gates Inquest and Nightmare court corrupts the youth… Undead Legions march…

Well save a few heroes standing against the darkness… So far so good. BUT…..

Right after Release this rather grim scenario sees weird changes not consistent with the world…
Legendary “My Little Pony” bows… Backpacks my little sons would not wear at school depicting Plush Charr or Quaggans., are happly worn by grim warriors….. Haircolors more home to WoW Gnomes or Kawaii – Asians, Logan starts with “i have the queens matters to attend to…”.. eh i thought we were over that since i passed Lev 30…

In short…. i cant help but note inconsistencies between the given scenario and how Anet tries to support that world, trying to weaken the suspension of disbelief.

Thoughts?

I see it as great done really, all these things you see as “contradicting” are the small joys and pleasure the ppl still manage to find, and what makes it worth fighting for. Afterall if there were no happiness or joy left in the world what would it be worth fighting? everyone would loose hope and spirit to fight on then

Tyria has happy places, sad places, decayed places, sunny places, snowy places, beautiful places. It has serious problems and funny ones. It has children being abducted by evil beings, and children playing silly games. It has its grimness, and its sillyness.

And it needs them all to be a good fantasy world. Whether it’s in books, games or movies, almost no one can get away with a one-dimensional world. A world built on only one emotion is bland and boring.

So. you can take a Charr with a pink mohawk, a pink quaggan backpack and a My little Pony bow consistent the the world and the natur of the Charr race?

Dont misunderstand me… im not against FUN, but Fun fitting to a race.

well just like every humans are different, and some are outright stick FAR out of the norm (talking both ingame and IRL here), i suppose a charr could stick out like that too and find small quaggan backpacks adorable, it would certainly not be your average charr, but would be one of those silly charr sticking out a lot

Its a video game, I mean really for manny of us the story of a Fat little Italian plumber who could jump really high, was amazing fun. ((Mario RPG for the Win))

and although anet has a huge focuson lore, as far as the Game side of things there makeing this a GAME not a fantasy world simulater. ((also why player housing is unlikely.

Would you wear it on your back in day to day life? At Work, In addition to a pink mohawk?

Super Mario`s World is not Tyrias World, right? Something ok in one game doest fit in another…. or how about Pacman in Battlefield 3?

Woosh… over your head, you missed my point intirly.

This is a game first and foremost Anet did not designee it to be some super overly dark fantasy world Sim, its true enough the charr have there own idels and belifes but on the hole (out side of your story) its not meant to be relfected totally in your character.

where all just a bunch of adults playing with our virtual Action figger’s ((or for some there more like barbie dulls))

the world and the lore just give it depth.

yes im a awesome pink hair charr with a quagon back pack, and im the most Bad —- kitten in the room. and i will stomp dragons into the mud for what thay did to the norn. fist pump :P

I say this all the time the story telling this game is horrible that’s about it. The gameplay is so friggen good and addictive and maybe that’s why most of us are playing the game.

I’ve got nothing against pink backpacks and the like, it’s good money for ANet and the game already has a ton of pink dudes running around. If the community buys them and I see a lot of people around me using them then sure go ahead, people spend more money on even less trivial virtual crap in richer countries anyway.

I live in the poorest country in Europe, wanna know how I payed for this game and some gems ?

I sold virtual boots on the UK AH in Debillo 3 for 5-30 each pair. Yeap, people bought them. So I’d rather you buy those backpacks too!

The man who can wield the power of this sword can summon to him an army
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.

I beg to differ there. all the “non-fitting Stuff” appeared after the game was released.

I dont understand your idea on “its not reflected on your Character”.. why it should NOT be? Your Character lives in this world. How does it not entirely reflecting on him or her?
Only cause of you the player not caring for the background and think a pink Quaggan Plushie is, what this char would wear?

Would I? No. But there’s a guy on night shift that would. Hell, he’s got the colored hair (and beard) already. It’s not a mohawk, but it’s usually more colors than just pink, too.

I’m a RPer, and in game I have a thief that secretly writes trashy romance novels where humans (usually women, sometimes men) get carried away and ravished by norn and charr (usually men, sometimes women). It sounds silly at first, but you KNOW someone would eventually do it, it’s human nature. So enjoy the fact that the world is a grim place, but don’t be surprised if you see a cute human woman in red armor pull a book out of her charr backpack and slip it into a book cart in Divinity’s Reach.

Everyone has their moments of silliness, from Rytlock Bromstone to the genie trapped in the magical forge. Well … everyone but Trahearne.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Why not? Stupid question really. What I wear at work is not relevant, as long as the job is done.
